‘Agree with your adversary quickly…’

Matthew 5:25

In this verse, Jesus Christ laid down a very important principle by saying, “Do what you know you must do— now. Do it

quickly. If you don’t, an inevitable process will begin to work ‘till you have paid the last penny’ (Matthew 5:26) in pain,

agony, and distress.” God’s laws are unchangeable and there is no escape from them. The teachings of Jesus always

penetrate right to the heart of our being.

Wanting to make sure that my adversary gives me all my rights is a natural thing. But Jesus says that it is a matter of

inescapable and eternal importance to me that I pay my adversary what I owe him. From our Lord’s standpoint it

doesn’t matter whether I am cheated or not, but what does matter is that I don’t cheat someone else. Am I insisting on

having my own rights, or am I paying what I owe from Jesus Christ’s standpoint?

Do it quickly— bring yourself to judgment now. In moral and spiritual matters, you must act immediately. If you don’t,

the inevitable, relentless process will begin to work. God is determined to have His child as pure, clean, and white as

driven snow, and as long as there is disobedience in any point of His teaching, He will allow His Spirit to use whatever

process it may take to bring us to obedience. The fact that we insist on proving that we are right is almost always a

clear indication that we have some point of disobedience. No wonder the Spirit of God so strongly urges us to stay

steadfastly in the light! (see John 3:19-21).

“Agree with your adversary quickly….” Have you suddenly reached a certain place in your relationship with someone,

only to find that you have anger in your heart? Confess it quickly— make it right before God. Be reconciled to that

person— do it now!

We all have the trick of saying—If only I were not where I am!—If only I had not got the kind of people I have to live

with! If our faith or our religion does not help us in the conditions we are in, we have either a further struggle to go

through, or we had better abandon that faith and religion. The Shadow of an Agony, 1178 L

Bible Verses: The Power of Forgiveness

Forgiveness is a very central part of the gospel and sometimes it is good to get a reminder of the truly amazing

promises that God gives regarding this. Here is a small selection of verses about forgiveness, its conditions, and its

power. When we look at these verses we can see clearly that as long as we repent and are faithful to forgive others

then God will forgive us fully and absolutely and we can truly make a new beginning!

Psalm 103:10-12

He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor punished us according to our iniquities. For as the heavens are

high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward those who fear Him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has

He removed our transgressions from us.

Psalm 130:3-4

If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with You, that You may be

feared.

Isaiah 1:18

“Come now, and let us reason together,” says the Lord, “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as

snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

Isaiah 43:25

I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins.

Isaiah 55:7

Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; let him return to the Lord, and He will have

mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.

Micah 7:18-19

Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does

not retain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy. He will again have compassion on us, and will subdue our

iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.

Matthew 6:14-15

For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their

trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Mark 11:25

And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may

also forgive you your trespasses.

Luke 6:37

Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be

forgiven.

Luke 7:47-48

Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven,

the same loves little.

Acts 3:19

Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from

the presence of the Lord.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither

fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor

drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you

were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of

our God.

Ephesians 1:7-8

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace which

He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence.

Colossians 1:13-14

He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in

whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

1 John 1:9

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 2:1-2

My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate

with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only

but also for the whole world.

Our Over: From Zero to Hero

H E R E

Once you skim through the deluge of media reports that have been circulating on the personal life and personality of the

smiley and unassuming man, the picture of a humble, down-to-earth, and devoted Christian boxer who derives his

confidence from God and shares his wealth with the poor emerges.

It’s no wonder then that his popularity is still soaring and he continues to be hailed as the people’s champion despite his

losses. But perhaps what is most compelling about the godly and wealthy Pacman (as he is affectionately known) is that

he came from a humble background, but God found him and raised him “from nothing into something”, in his own words.

In a classic rags to riches story that has captivated readers all over the world and even been turned into a documentary,

we learn that Pacquiao was born on December 17, 1978, in one of the poorest areas in Philippines. He is the fourth

among six siblings and his parents separated when he was in sixth grade.

Due to extreme poverty, Pacquiao dropped out of high school and ran away from home at the age of 12 (after his father

ate his dog.) He sold bread and worked on construction sites before joining the Philippines national amateur boxing

team with his friend Eugene Barutag, a fellow General Santos boxer who went to Manila with him to make their fortune.

Sadly, tragedy struck in 1995 when his friend collapsed in the boxing ring and died. It was a loss that fired Pacquiao’s

drive to continue their “dream” and “battle.” He went on to US where he was taken under the wings of trainer Freddie

Roach who propelled Pacquiao into greatness.

His US debut came when he became the last minute replacement to fight one of super bantamweight division’s most

feared champions. He won that fight convincingly and went on to become the first and only eight-division world

champion and secured 10 world titles under his belt with a boxing record of 57 wins (which included 38 knockouts), six

losses, and two draws.

In 2000, Pacquiao married his wife, publicly known as “Jinkee”, and they currently have five children. Besides his boxing

title, Pacquiao also wears many other hats, including that of congressman, basketball player, actor, and singer.

Setbacks

But his newfound fame and string of successes proved to be his undoing and Pacquiao soon succumbed to a

materialistic and hedonistic lifestyle. In an interview with CBN News in December 2012, he divulged that although he

was born into a Catholic family and would go to church on Sundays, he would be in the bar drinking from Monday to

Saturday and was constantly gambling, swearing, and womanizing.

Boxing fan or not, you must be fairly

acquainted with the name Manny

Pacquiao by now.

Page 10: EDITOR’Sthebayfriendshipclub.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/... · 2019-10-21 · EDITOR’S DESK Welcome to our 41st edition of Team Talk! Special thank you to all our readers

One day, he received a letter from his mother informing him that his sister had dropped out of school because he

had stopped sending money back to the family. He cried and blamed himself for spending all his money on

alcohol. That night, he heard God say to him in his dream, “My child, my child, why have you gone astray?”

That ignited his desire and hunger for the Word of God. Poring through the Bible, he was convicted of his sins

and need for God in his life. He cried and gave his life to Jesus in repentance and submission.

Transformation

That was eight years ago. Since then, Pacquiao’s life has undergone a complete transformation. His coach,

Roach shared in an interview with The Guardian in October 2015 that ever since he found religion, Pacquiao no

longer drinks, parties, or sleeps around. He would even “(discuss) the Bible when we’re flying somewhere, asking

what does this really mean, what does that really mean.”

It’s a testimonial that is corroborated by the man himself who jumps on every media opportunity to talk about

God, shown for instance, in an interview with Christian Post in April 2015. Pacquiao said: “I think every Christian

athlete should be open about their relationship with the Lord, as well as every believer. That is what the Bible

commands.”

On top of being open about his faith, Pacquiao doesn’t shy away from talking about his new priorities. He shared:

“When you have Jesus in your life, when you have God in your life, the things in this world are not important to

your heart. What is important is God in your heart.”

The Pacquiao today is a marked contrast to the man who used to sell donuts in one of the poorest streets in

Philippines and to the man who used to splurge his wealth on alcohol, women, and gambling. As we marvel at all

he has accomplished today and the inspiration he has become, let’s remember that if not for the grace of God, he

would not be who he is today.

Similarly, God has saved us from our sinful state, not because of our merit but because of His love and grace, to

be His witnesses that will “declare the praises of him who called [us] out of darkness into his wonderful light” (1

Peter 2:9).

Are we, like Pacquiao, living out our faith? If not, it isn’t too late to start now.

JESUS - SON OF GOD Key Teachings of Jesus

The Gospel of Matthew is rich with teaching statements by Jesus that give us insights into how He would like His

followers to live.

Jesus did not set about teaching doctrines or “theology.” Instead, He demonstrated many of His teachings, although He

also made many commandments throughout His ministry (Matt. 28:20). Many times “The Sermon on the Mount” is

referred to as Jesus’ basic teachings in a capsule. We encourage you to read the Sermon on the Mount (Matt. 5-7) to

absorb the full richness of the concepts and language.

Below are 20 key teachings of Jesus from the Gospel of Matthew; this is not a complete list. There are many other

teachings of the Christian church, but these are some of the ones we get from looking at just Jesus’ life and ministry.

Many have direct parallels to key events in His life.

• The Christian life is marked by baptism (Matt. 3:13-17).

• God is available to help us not give in to temptation (Matt. 4:1-11).

• Jesus asks us to repent—turn away from wrong, confess wrongdoing (Matt. 4:17).

• Jesus says, “Follow Me” and you will help find other followers (Matt. 4:18-22).

• Jesus says, “Take up your cross and follow Me”(Matt. 16:24-27).

• Repeatedly Jesus notes, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Jesus seems to be telling us ways to experience

heaven on earth now, and He also refers to a future realm where we will be in the presence of God and Jesus (Matt.

4:23; 13:18-52; 18:1-5).

• Jesus showed compassion for all and helped them: the poor, the despised, the outcasts, and wants us to do the same

(Matt. 4:24-25;9:9-13).

• Jesus says He is like “new wineskins” or a completely new thing (Matt. 9:14-17).

• The many stories and healings of Jesus teach us, “Have faith; it is enough” (Matt. 9:18-31).

• Jesus emphasizes, “Be sincere, not a hypocrite” (Matt. 6:1-6).

• Jesus and God are one (Matt. 10:40; 16:13-20).

• Jesus warns, “Don’t let family get in the way of following Me” (Matt. 10:35-38; 12:46-50).

• Jesus has authority over the law and tradition (Matt. 12: 1-8; 15:1-9).

• Jesus fulfils Old Testament scriptures (Matt. 1:22-23; 17:9-13).

• Jesus preaches, “Love your enemies; do not hate, be reconciled” (Matt. 5:38-48; 5:21-24).

• Jesus reminds us, “You must become like a child to enter the kingdom” (Matt. 19:13-15).

• Jesus’ disciples become a community of faith, which forms the beginnings of the Christian church universal (Matt.

28:16-19).

The events of Jesus’ last week on earth are the culmination of His ministry and teachings, climaxing with His death on

the cross. A man who has never sinned dies to save all the rest of us who have sinned (Matt. 21-27).

Jesus says, “I am alive! Go and tell everyone else” (Matt. 28:7-10).

He adds, “I will be with you forever” (Matt. 28:20b).

Below is another way of summing up Jesus’ teachings in His own words, from His Sermon on the Mount:

Blessed are the poor in spirit,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are those who mourn,

for they will be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,

for they will inherit the earth.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,

for they will be filled.

Blessed are the merciful,

for they will be shown mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart,

for they will see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,

for they will be called sons of God.

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.

Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who

were before you. (Matt. 5:1-12)

quietly and inconspicuously. It operates through honoring attitudes, words and actions and gives respect,

dignity and value to those we deal with daily.

BIBLE HEROES 7 Lessons from the Book of Jonah

A man being swallowed whole by a large fish?! And then prayed to God while in the belly of a humongous creature for

three days?

Sounds like a fairy tale story, isn’t it?

Well, not unless you read the story of prophet Jonah. Interestingly, the book of Jonah consists of only 4 chapters, 48

verses, and just over 1,300 words. You can read the entire story in just 15 minutes.

Beautifully balanced, deep and profound Jonah’s adventure opens a window into the heart of God. Let me share with

you seven great lessons from the book of Jonah.

1. God is not happy when people do bad things

Nineveh, the city to which Jonah was sent by God, was the capital of Assyria. The city is known for its wickedness

and had a reputation for being cruel that is hard for us to fathom. Ancient records from Assyria boast of this kind of

cruelty as a badge of courage and power.

However, God does not tolerates sin and had instructed Jonah to deliver a message about an impending judgment

unless they have repented. Remember, He hates sin but loves the sinner.

2. Instead of making excuses, use your talents to fulfil God’s mission

Jonah ran away from God as he does not want Him to extend the same love to his enemies. When bad things happen

to good people, we seek God to satisfy our quest for an answer. But when bad things happen to bad people, we seem

satisfied and thought they deserved that to happen.

As for the people of Nineveh, Jonah thought they deserve punishment. After all, they are their enemies and had known

for their cruelty. Whenever we decide to disobey, we can always find excuses like prophet Jonah. What we need

is courage and let God use our talent to share His message.

3. Hiding or running away from God is not a solution

It’s human nature to hide whenever we have done something wrong. When Adam and Eve sinned, they hid from God. In

the same manner, Jonah hid from God as he is not willing to fulfil the task given by God.

Continue…

Page 16: EDITOR’Sthebayfriendshipclub.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/... · 2019-10-21 · EDITOR’S DESK Welcome to our 41st edition of Team Talk! Special thank you to all our readers

How far will God let us go? Why doesn’t He stop us sooner? Sometimes God lets us go on and on in our sin so

that we have to face the consequences of our own disobedience. Running away never gains anything except a

miserable big fish story. It is always better to run to God than to try running from Him.

4. A storm is an opportunity to witness about God’s love

God sends storms to get our attention, He allows others to suffer because of our sin, and He sends someone to

challenge us. In this case the captain woke up Jonah who was sleeping below deck and told him to start praying.

The storm is an opportunity to introduce God and tell the people why there is a storm.

The people of the world may not want our sermons, but when the storms of life come, they definitely want our

prayers.

5. Your course of action will either causes troubles or blessing with others

Jonah is the reason why there is a storm. Unlike Joseph in Egypt who became a blessing to Pharaoh, Jonah had

caused so much trouble and distress. All the sailors were afraid and they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten

up the ship.

Because of Jonah’s disobedience, the lives of people on board are also endangered. Oftentimes, God allows us

to face the consequences of our own foolish choices.

6. God is willing to forgive the repentant sinner

Jonah wants the city to be punished because they are wicked. The reason why he refused to go to Nineveh is

that God is a loving and compassionate, that He is willing to forgive the people of Nineveh should they be

repented because Jonah knew God well (Jonah 4:2).

The book of Jonah is about God and how great His heart is toward prodigal sons and daughters who run away

from Him. God never gives up on Jonah and the people of Nineveh because He is slow to anger, loving and

compassionate.

7. Celebrate when others have been blessed by God

Instead of rejoicing, Jonah became upset because of God’s compassion. The story of the prodigal son illustrates

this point. While the father is so happy to received his erring son, the other son is envious with his brother. Are

you happy when bad things happened to your neighbour?

When good things happened to your friends, relatives, colleague, or to anyone, learn to celebrate for his

accomplishments. Its an indication of a matured faith.

Final words

A human father would probably have shrugged Jonah off in disgust and found someone else more willing to take

his message, but not so our Heavenly Father. Though Jonah tried to leave the Lord, the Lord never left him.

What an inspiring message about God’s patience and unbounded grace.

“I am the Lord God. I am merciful and very patient with my people. I show great love, and I can be trusted.” —

Child-Like Faith: Lessons from our Children

Do we have faith like a child? As parents, we can learn a lot about our relationship with our heavenly Father by watching our

children.

And he said: “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of

heaven.” Matthew 18:3

When I read this passage, I want to ask, “Really, God? Really? You want a heaven filled with children? Don’t you know that

kids are messy, whiny and oh, so much work?” From my vantage point, my kids have a lot to learn. They need manners,

book smarts and common sense. Why then would God want to make children His litmus test for heaven? Well, if we take

some time to learn from our own kids we will see that it makes perfect sense. Here are some things He showed me about

child-like faith.

• Child-like faith TRUSTS

When my kids are in the back of the car, they are usually looking out the window, reading a book or listening to music. They

often don’t even know where we are and they don’t question every turn I make. All they know is that Mom is driving. Mom is in

control and that is enough for them. Yes, God wants us to be like little children.

• Child-like faith SEEKS FELLOWSHIP

My daughter loves to be with me. She doesn’t care much what we do, as long as we are together. It could be the everyday

mundane tasks of emptying the dishwasher or a special time of a “girl’s day out.” She just likes to be with me. Yes, God

wants us to be like little children.

• Child-like faith FORGIVES

I have done some things as a parent that I regret. Things that make me want to rip out the tape player of my life and hit

“rewind.” Humbly apologizing to my children is always met with a ready and heart-felt, “I forgive you, Mommy.” Forgiving 70

times 7 comes naturally to them. Yes, God wants a heaven filled with little children.

• Child-like faith HOLDS ON TIGHT

When we were in a crowded mall or on a busy street, my kids would grip my hands tightly. Keeping me near, letting me guide

the way gives them a sense of safety and security. They have complete confidence that Mom will always do her best to

protect them. Yes, God wants us to be just like little children.

• Child-like faith STUDIES

It is not an uncommon sight in my house to come into the living room and find one or both of my children engrossed in a family

photo album. They love to hear stories of when I was a child, how their dad and I met and their infancy. They relish learning

everything there is to know about their mom and dad. Yes, God wants a heaven filled with little children.

Child-like faith is EXACTLY what God wants from His children. Children are precious to God because they embody the traits

of a true believer. They follow without question and they love without limits.

He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

The Conduct of a Christian Man

How should a Christian man conductive himself? What should his ambitions be? How should he treat his wife? Is it

wrong for a man to be competitive?

The Bible answers these questions and more and tells men how God expects them to conduct their lives.

A man’s ultimate example of masculinity is God himself

“For a man ought not to have his head covered, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of

man.” – I Corinthians 11:7 (NASB)

A man is to be strong in mind and body

“I am going the way of all the earth. Be strong, therefore, and show yourself a man.” – I Kings 2:2 (NASB)

“A wise man is strong, and a man of knowledge increases power.” – Proverbs 24:5 (NASB)

“Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.” – I Corinthians 16:13 (NASB)

A man is to be brave

“Therefore, keep up your courage, men” – Acts 27:25 (NASB)

“But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the preserving of the soul.” –

Hebrews 10:39 (NASB)

A man is to be a leader

“The righteous is a guide to his neighbor, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.” – Proverbs 12:26 (NASB)

A man is to listen to wise counsel

“A wise man will hear and increase in learning, and a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel” – Proverbs 1:5

(NASB)

“Where there is no guidance the people fall, but in abundance of counselors there is victory.” – Proverbs 11:14

(NASB)

A man’s integrity is worth more to him than wealth or power

“A righteous man who walks in his integrity— How blessed are his sons after him.” – Proverbs 20:7 (NASB)

“A good name is to be more desired than great wealth, favor is better than silver and gold.” – Proverbs 22:1 (NASB)

“The integrity of the upright will guide them, but the crookedness of the treacherous will destroy them.” – Proverbs

11:3 (NASB)

A man channels his competitive and aggressive nature but does not suppress it

“Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle” – Psalm 144:1 (NASB)

“Fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives and your houses.” – Nehemiah 4:14 (NASB)

A man channels his anger but does not suppress it

“Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger” – Ephesians 4:26 (NASB)

“Like a city that is broken into and without walls is a man who has no control over his spirit.” – Proverbs 25:28

(NASB)

“He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city.” –

Proverbs 16:32 (NASB)

A man channels his sexuality but does not suppress it

“Your head crowns you like Carmel, and the flowing locks of your head are like purple threads;

The king is captivated by your tresses.

“How beautiful and how delightful you are, my love, with all your charms!

“Your stature is like a palm tree, and your breasts are like its clusters.”

”I said, ‘I will climb the palm tree,

I will take hold of its fruit stalks.’

Oh, may your breasts be like clusters of the vine,

And the fragrance of your breath like apples,

And your mouth like the best wine!” – Song of Solomon 7:5-9 (NASB)

A man defends the weak

“Learn to do good; Seek justice, Reprove the ruthless, Defend the orphan, Plead for the widow.” – Isaiah 1:17

(NASB)

“Open your mouth, judge righteously, and defend the rights of the afflicted and needy.” – Proverbs 31:9 (NASB)

“Moses was educated in all the learning of the Egyptians, and he was a man of power in words and deeds… And

when he saw one of them being treated unjustly, he defended him and took vengeance for the oppressed by

striking down the Egyptian.” – Acts 7:22 & 24 (NASB)

A man does not allow himself to be manipulated by a woman’s sexual charms

“For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is light; And reproofs for discipline are the way of life to keep

you from the evil woman, from the smooth tongue of the adulteress. Do not desire her beauty in your heart, nor

let her capture you with her eyelids. For on account of a harlot one is reduced to a loaf of bread, and an

adulteress hunts for the precious life.” – Proverbs 6:23-26 (NASB)

A man works hard and is ambitious in all his pursuits

“Man goes forth to his work and to his labor until evening.” Psalm 104:23 (NASB)

“Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before obscure men.” –

Proverbs 22:29 (NASB)

“He who gathers in summer is a son who acts wisely, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who acts shamefully.”

– Proverbs 10:5 (NASB)

“Here is what I have seen to be good and fitting: to eat, to drink and enjoy oneself in all one’s labor in which he

toils under the sun during the few years of his life which God has given him; for this is his reward.” – Ecclesiastes

5:18 (NASB)

“Commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established.” – Proverbs 16:3 (NASB)

“He also who is slack in his work is brother to him who destroys.” – Proverbs 18:9 (NASB)

“Prepare your work outside and make it ready for yourself in the field; Afterwards, then, build your house.” –

Proverbs 24:27 (NASB)

“The plans of the diligent lead surely to advantage, but everyone who is hasty comes surely to poverty.” –

Proverbs 21:5 (NASB)

“In all labor there is profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.” – Proverbs 14:23 (NASB)

A man values his wife and his family

“Enjoy life with the woman whom you love all the days of your fleeting life which He has given to you under the

sun; for this is your reward in life and in your toil in which you have labored under the sun.” – Ecclesiastes 9:9

(NASB)

“He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.” – Proverbs 18:22 (NASB)

“Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.” – Proverbs 31:30

(NASB)

“Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so

are the children of one’s youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them” – Psalm 127:3-5 (NASB)

A man provides for and protects his wife and children

“When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are undisturbed.” – Luke 11:21 (NASB)

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, so that He might

sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the

church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. So

husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; for no

one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, because we

are members of His body.” – Ephesians 5:25-28 (NASB)

“A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, and the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the

righteous.” – Proverbs 13:22 (NASB)

A man shows proper respect for authority

“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives

you.” – Exodus 20:10 (NASB)

“Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to

governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right.” – I Peter 2:13-14

(NASB)

“Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account.

Let them do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you.” – Hebrews 13:17 (NASB)

A man shows proper honor to women

“You husbands in the same way, live with your wives in an understanding way, as with someone weaker, since

she is a woman; and show her honor as a fellow heir of the grace of life, so that your prayers will not be

hindered.” – I Peter 3:7 (NASB)

Heavenly Father, You are Three and yet One, and it is a mystery. But Father, this one thing we know, that out of the

Father, Son and Holy Spirit, You created us to be loved by You and to share in Your divine relationship.

We were created to fellowship with You and others, just as it is Your nature that Three can become one.

Even so Lord, You have blessed us in the realms of the Earth to have those human connections with one another, for

us to experience being husbands and wives, parents and children, co-labourers and friends.

These relationships are a blessing to us, and we thank You that we can connect with people in these various ways,

and express our friendship and love through these relationships.

Proverbs 22:6 - “Train up a child in the way he should go. And when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Better Relationships between Parents and Children

Father, we thank You for the relationships of parents and children, that we can experience the care-free living of being

totally dependent on our parents, to grow up and then know what it is to be on the other side, as You Father, have

cared for us as a loving parent.

Oh what a wonderful window into the Heart of God has been revealed in the relationship between parents and

children.

For the children, we pray that their hearts will be full to receive the love, instruction of their parents, in

an environment of trust and free from fear.

For the parents, we release wisdom and discernment in the way they should raise their children. We bless the

relationships of parents and children. May great joy and peace continue to abound in the hearts of all that make up

this family.

Ephesians 5:25 - ”Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it;”

1 Corinthians 13:13: “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

Prayer: For Better Relationships

Wall of Inspiration:Dr Lloyd Jones

David Martyn Lloyd-Jones (20 December 1899 – 1 March 1981) was a Welsh Protestant minister, preacher and

medical doctor who was influential in the Reformed wing of the British evangelical movement in the 20th century. For

almost 30 years, he was the minister of Westminster Chapel in London.

Early Life and ministry

Lloyd-Jones was born in Cardiff and raised in Llangeitho, Ceredigion. His father was a grocer, and he had two brothers:

Harold died during the 1918 flu pandemic, while Vincent went on to become a High Court judge. Llangeitho is

associated with the Welsh Methodist revival, as it was the location of Daniel Rowland's ministry. Attending a London

grammar school between 1914 and 1917 and then St Bartholomew's Hospital as a medical student, in 1921 he started

work as assistant to the Royal Physician, Sir Thomas Horder. Lloyd-Jones obtained an MD from London University,

and became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians. After struggling for two years over what he sensed was a

calling to preach, in 1927 Lloyd-Jones returned to Wales, having married Bethan Phillips (with whom he later had two

children, Elizabeth and Ann), accepting an invitation to minister at a church in Aberavon (Port Talbot).

Westminster Chapel

After a decade ministering in Aberavon, in 1939 he went back to London, where he had been appointed as associate

pastor of Westminster Chapel, working alongside G. Campbell Morgan. The day before he was officially to be accepted

into his new position, World War II broke out in Europe. During the same year, he became the president of the Inter-

Varsity Fellowship of Students (known today as the Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship (UK)). During the

war he and his family moved to Haslemere, Surrey. In 1943 Morgan retired, leaving Lloyd-Jones as the sole Pastor of

Westminster Chapel.

David was well known for his style of expository preaching, and the Sunday morning and evening meetings at which he

officiated drew crowds of several thousand, as did the Friday evening Bible studies, which were, in effect, sermons in

the same style. He would take many months, even years, to expound a chapter of the Bible verse by verse. His

sermons would often be around fifty minutes to an hour in length, attracting many students from universities and

colleges in London. His sermons were also transcribed and printed (virtually verbatim) in the weekly Westminster

Record, which was read avidly by those who enjoyed his preaching.

Later life

David retired from his ministry at Westminster Chapel in 1968, following a major operation. For the rest of his life, he

concentrated on editing his sermons to be published, counselling other ministers, answering letters and attending

conferences. Perhaps his most famous publication is a 14 volume series of commentaries on the Epistle to the

Romans, the first volume of which was published in 1970.

Despite spending most of his life living and ministering in England, Lloyd-Jones was proud of his roots in Wales.

He best expressed his concern for his home country through his support of the Evangelical Movement of Wales:

he was a regular speaker at their conferences, preaching in both English and Welsh.

Since his death, the movement has published various books, in English and Welsh, bringing together selections

of his sermons and articles.

David preached for the last time on 8 June 1980 at Barcombe Baptist Chapel. After a lifetime of work, he died

peacefully in his sleep at Ealing on 1 March 1981, St David's Day. He was buried at Newcastle Emlyn, near

Cardigan, west Wales. A well-attended thanksgiving service was held at Westminster Chapel on 6 April.

Since his death, there have been various publications regarding Lloyd-Jones and his work, most popularly a

biography in two volumes by Iain Murray

Famous Quotes

"Do you think that you deserve forgiveness? If you do you are not a Christian. “

"The ultimate test of our spirituality is the measure of our amazement at the grace of God.“

"It is grace at the beginning, and grace at the end. So that when you and I come to lie upon our death beds, the

one thing that should comfort and help and strengthen us there is the thing that helped us in the beginning. Not

what we have been, not what we have done, but the Grace of God in Jesus Christ our Lord. The Christian life

starts with grace, it must continue with grace, it ends with grace. Grace wondrous grace. By the grace of God I

am what I am. Yet not I, but the Grace of God which was with me."

Live has an uncanny means of levelling the playing field. Time catches up with us on those poor business or share

investments; and unless you have multiple streams of income… people tend to consider their property as an asset or

“nest-egg”.

This perception could end up being one of your worst financial understandings of your life for these two reasons:

Reason 1:

I have encountered endless clients who have not catered sufficiently for their old age. There are various options of

income streams and if you are relying only on one income then you are setting yourself up for financial failure. When a

person is in this position they often consider selling their greatest asset … their house. The problem here is that a

house is not deemed as an asset until its paid off in full and you hold the Title Deed in your name. I have coached

many clients to consider not to sell because there is an opportunity to earn an additional income by renting their house

out and finding alternative accommodation.

Solution 1:

Never place all your eggs in one basket, because of the basket falls.. You will be in trouble. Consider having a set

financial plan for your future and don’t rely on your property as being an “escape” option to avoid financial distress.

Reason 2:

As Realtors we understand that your home is your castle and you are proud of it and all the memories it holds for you.

Its been your shelter from the storm, where Christmas dinners have been held with memories that overflow with

laughter and joy. Unfortunately, markets and consumers measure the property on mortar and brick. This is what we as

Realtors follow to determine a value. Everything comes down to quality of product, market appetite, supply and

demand. Your home is value beyond monetary understanding for you; however the consumer does not look with the

same eye and will quickly walk away from an over priced property.

Solution 2:

If you are considering going to market; be cautious to over-price your property. Be mindful that properties advertised

being sold in your area hardly ever reach full asking and cannot be a measure for you to gauge with. In contrast,

properties sold are the one’s that Realtors use as a guide. Historical sales performance is a more accurate solution

and you can determine the quality of the Realtor by the research completed. Over-pricing your property, even to test

the market can be a dangerous game to play if you are a serious seller. Always stay on top of your pricing game.

Positive Spin-offs:

Through the programme we were able to employ 15 young people (either currently completing their studies or

those who’ve just completed their studies and are looking for permanent employment) in 2018 who helped

with the management of our programme and served as Youth Coaches and mentors for the young people we

encounter through our programmes. This number is set to increase to 22 this year. We also make use 4 local

small businesses (2 catering companies and 2 transport companies) who assist us by providing meals for the

young people during our coaching clinics and sports festivals as well as transportation services where

necessary. Our beneficiaries have been exposed to provincial athletics competitions under the auspices of

Eastern Province Athletics. Through these competitions, 7 athletes (aged 12 to 15) we selected to represent

Eastern Province Athletics at the ACNW Interprovincial Championships in Potchefstroom at the end of

November last year. One of the beneficiaries came back home with a silver medal and another was offered a

full bursary to complete his high school studies at Monument High School in Rooderpoort in Gauteng – these

are just some of our success stories through the programme. This year, we’ve had 3 beneficiaries win medals

at the Eastern Province Athletics Championships, two of which have been selected to represent the province

at the Athletics South Africa National Junior Championships in Paarl. All our beneficiaries are 100% black and

come from poor communities where such opportunities do not exist to due lack of resources and sometimes

lack of willingness and interest from school teachers.

Partners / Sponsors:

Grassroots Youth Development (GYD):

We are funded by Grassroots Youth Development (GYD), which is a Corporate Social Investment

Programme emanating from three wind farms located in the Eastern Cape, namely the Grassridge 60 MW

wind farm in Nelson Mandela Bay, the Waainek 24MW wind farm in the Makana Municipality and the Chaba

21 MW wind farm in the Great Kei Municipality. The GYD initiative is a Socio Economic Development (SED)

and an Enterprise Development (ED) program aimed at creating socio-economic opportunities for youth that

reside within 50 kilometres of each wind farm. The GYP program has been designed to focus specifically on

the development and implementation of projects in the field of education, sport and arts & culture.”

ACT Elite Training Academy (AETA):

AETA is a high performance athletics coaching academy based in Port Elizabeth. Talented athletes are

identified through our monthly coaching clinics and are then adopted by AETA who provides professional

coaching services to the athletes at no cost.

Radio Kingfisher:

Radio Kingfisher is Khulasande Sports Development’s media sponsor. Through the sponsorship, a radio

advertisement on KSD was created and is aired 30 times per month. Opportunities to be interviewed on live

radio are given to KSD and its partners twice a month on popular programmes to discuss the programmes

and partner involvements.

Conclusion:

To sustain our programmes and create permanent opportunities for the youth, we need to secure more

partners for KSD. We would love the opportunity to submit a formal proposal / funding application through

your organisation, which will allow us to adopt more schools in the region to benefit from our programmes.

Would you kindly give further information on the funding application process?
