This respect is gained, not only through their level of professionalism and the quality of real estate service that they provide, but also their commitment and involvement in industry and community services. Congratulations Marty!

YANA (You Are Not Alone Society) is asking the business community for assistance in finding new office space. The organization helps families who have to travel outside the Comox Valley for their children’s medical needs. YANA will have to relocate in May due to the renovations at the Comox Recreation Centre, where they currently rent a small office. They are seeking a long term arrangement and are interested in hearing from business owners that may have 100 to 200 square feet of office space available for rent. For more information, please call Judy Cryer at 250.400.0404.

A preliminary layout approval has been given to the subdivision application for Phase I, which will include 61 lots to be built at The Ridge, a new residential housing project in South Courtenay. The subdivision and pump station design is 80% complete and it is expected to be submitted to the City of Courtenay in the next few weeks. This project is located on a 77 acre property on Buckstone Road, near Comox Logging Road and Fraser Roads. The design will include between 205 and 230 residential units on single and duplex lots and two multi-family sites that will include approximately 80 units. This project is designed so that it can be built in five phases; Phase I is expected to include approximately 61 residential lots and some of the zoning may allow homes with suites. Selective lots will feature panoramic ocean views and some of the lots may contain carriage homes. The owners are hopeful that site construction can begin on this project once all approvals are in place, which could be in May or June of 2012; lots could be on the market as of July or August of 2012. An announcement is expected to be made by VIHA in the next few weeks with regards to the new hospital for the Comox Valley. Details about the exact location and construction start date will be released at that time. After initially selecting a location on Ryan Road across from the Crown Isle development VIHA was forced to seek a new location as the preferred site fell within a four kilometre area around CFB Comox/Comox Airport which restricts the height of structures to less than nine metres. VIHA expects the preliminary work that has already gone into this hospital including designs will be transferable to a new location. First Report: August 5, 2008     Last Report: July 27, 2011

The Miller Hull Partnership, the architectural firm contracted by the Powell River Library board has completed the preliminary design and will be presenting it to the public on Monday, March 26. An open house is being held from 3 to 9 pm in the foyer upstairs at Powell River Recreation Complex. The architects will be available to answer questions related to the design and provide more detail about how a new library might look and function. A cost estimate prepared by a licensed quantity surveyor is expected to be ready by April. The board will determine funding so they can estimate what portion of funding would be required from taxpayers. This process will take time and then council will make a decision as to whether or not to proceed to referendum. If the project proceeds to construction, the regional district will hold a referendum for rural residents in Electoral Areas A, B, C and D to consider providing a specific portion of municipal funding for this project. The city is responsible for the selecting the site of a new library and it has determined the former arena site at Willingdon Beach Park is the preferred site.
