EDITORIAL

Over the summer holidays and before the new school year began, the Senior

and Leadership Team (or SaLT as we like to call ourselves), met together to

dream, strategise and plan for 2020. It was a great time of exploring God’s

purpose for our students, staff and College community and lining this up

with educational research and practice.

One of the main outcomes of our planning day, was to clarify our priorities

and to develop a set of values that relate to everything we do as a College.

We now have a new common language to support our Strategic Goals.

Because we are Image Bearers of Christ, we:

Build Community,

Learn Courageously,

Strive for Excellence,

Actively Steward and

Nurture Godly Character.

As a College, we will continue to unpack what each of these values mean and

look like in practice. We are excited to use this language in every aspect of

College life and to work together to bring them to life. We will be asking

questions of each other, such as, “What does excellence really mean?” “Can

it be something different for different people?”, “How can we actively stew-

ard?”, “Who is our community and how do we build each other up?”

As the year progresses, we will discuss each of the values in the newsletter

and invite you to be part of that discussion by giving feedback.

I am looking forward to this new year and to building, being courageous,

conscious of stewardship and nurturing relationships with

each other and with God.

PVCC Parents Prayer Group

From Chris Griffin, parent coordinator of the Prayer Group:

As parents we entrust our children’s education to the school and the teachers, but we

choose PVCC strategically for the Christian worldview and nurturing environment.

We desire for the best for them and realize that prayer forms a part of that. So we pray !

The parents’ prayer group meets roughly fortnightly while school is on, and we pray wherever the spirit is

leading. There is lots of stuff going on in the school, in all sorts of different places from the strategic, high

level stuff to the small stuff in the playground, and our desire is to earnestly be aligned with God’s heart

and praying His will into the school. Come join us if you’re likeminded.

FROM SECONDARY

NEWS FROM SECONDARY SPORT

SECONDARY HOUSE SWIMMING CARNIVAL – Thursday February 13th 2020

The whole secondary school travelled to Aquarena in Doncaster for the annual house swimming carnival

the second week back at school. A warm sunny day was forecast and shade, sunscreen, Tshirts or rashies,

hats & hydration were encouraged for the day.

Each house had chosen their house coloured theme for the creative dress competition which made for a

colourful start to the carnival. Upton won this event in a very colourful turnout with the majority of the

house participating.

All the regular individual & relay swimming events were keenly contested with both student participation

and the general standard of all strokes being at a high level.

Other activities available to students were the diving & tug o’ war competitions, TShirt relays, the Year 12

Inflatable relay and water slides at lunchtime together with a staff/student relay where the teachers

finished 3rd to Meers in a hotly contested race.

Crichton backed up their 2019 win with another victory in the 2020 swimming carnival winning by 184

points from Schippers. Crichton was superbly led by senior captains Mikayla C & Archer H from Year 11

who encouraged fantastic participation from their house across all year levels.

Final points were

1st Crichton 1975 pts

2nd Schippers 1791 pts

3rd Meers 1721 pts

4th Upton 1563 pts

Year 9 student Ryan C was again the outstanding swimmer of the meet breaking 5 records. He claimed

new records in all four of the U15 boys’ individual events (all of which were 2010 records) and also the

Open Boys’ 100m – a record which had stood since 2011. Ryan smashed the 2010 breaststroke record by

a clear 5 seconds, the 100m free record by 2 seconds and both the freestyle & backstroke records by well

under a second. Fantastic effort again this year Ryan!

Crichton intermediate captain Charley M claimed the U16G butterfly record by well over 2 seconds in a

super swim. Well done Charley!

STUDENT SPORTS OPPORTUNITY!!

Ex-student & Plenty Tennis Club coach Jarad Marshman is facilitating a new VicHealth funded initiative to assist 12 – 17 year olds to get active and off their screens.

The sessions are about social interaction with activity as a base. It would be great for small groups of friends to head to Plenty Tennis Club for some light exercise & food!

Activities are definitely not limited to tennis with the newly surfaced supergrass courts at Plenty Tennis Club providing a great venue for a variety of sports which Jarad will run also utilising the adjacent oval.

I’ve met with Jarad and the program sounds great for $5 per student per Thursday session including food!

Jarad is more than happy to answer any queries – his number is on the flyer.
