Now most of the time we were using the first Activation Type ‘Use and Activate Generally’ .So we were activating the RTP Component at the Interface level and also assigning the input/output parameters in the same. If we use the rest two activation types there is not much difference ,only thing is that , that we could activate the RTP Component at the installation level and also probably assign input parameters at the installation level. In case of RTP Components with Activation Type ‘Use and Activate Individually‘ and ‘Use Individually and Activate Generally‘ we can assign the profiles or roles to the input parameters at the installation level.(assigning at the RTP Interface level is still possible but with the activation type we intend to use ,it would act like the same as the first activation type and won’t be for individual installations). For assigning at the Installation level we use Parameter Templates which are automatically proposed during maintenance at installation level.

ISU EDM: Activation of RTP Component

– I

This post is about the 3 types of activation possible for RTP Component in the RTP

Interface. The types are

1. Use and Activate Generally

2. Use and Activate Individually

3. Use Individually and Activate Generally.

More information on them can be obtained here. Anyways I am pasting the info here.

* Use and activate generally (activation and definition for all installations)

This activity type means that you must activate the RTP component at RTP interface level

and that you define the parameter allocation for the input parameters at RTP interface level.

* Use and activate individually (activation and definition for individual installations)

This activation type enables you to activate the RTP component only at installation level, not

at RTP interface level.

You can define the parameter allocations for the input parameters in the following ways:-

->Define the parameter allocation at RTP interface level

->Define parameter templates at RTP interface level. You can then define parameter

allocations for the input parameters at installation level based on these parameter templates.

* Use individually and activate generally (activation for all installations and for individual

installations)

This activation type means that you must activate the RTP component both at RTP interface

level and at installation level.

You can define the parameter allocations for the input parameters in the following ways:-

->Define the parameter allocation at RTP interface level

->Define parameter templates at RTP interface level. You can then define parameter

allocations for the input parameters at installation level based on these parameter templates.

Now most of the time we were using the first Activation Type ‘Use and Activate Generally’

.So we were activating the RTP Component at the Interface level and also assigning the

input/output parameters in the same.

If we use the rest two activation types there is not much difference ,only thing is that , that we

could activate the RTP Component at the installation level and also probably assign input

parameters at the installation level.

In case of RTP Components with Activation Type ‘Use and Activate Individually‘ and ‘Use

Individually and Activate Generally‘ we can assign the profiles or roles to the input

parameters at the installation level.(assigning at the RTP Interface level is still possible but

with the activation type we intend to use ,it would act like the same as the first activation type

and won’t be for individual installations). For assigning at the Installation level we use

Parameter Templates which are automatically proposed during maintenance at installation

level.

This time there is no presentation but just pasting the screenshots here.

First we look at the RTP Interface in which the component has the Activation Type as ‘Use

and Activate Individually‘.

rtp interface for use & activate individually actiavtion type

Here we can see that with Activation Type ‘Use and Activate Individually‘ if we try to

Activate it at the RTP Interface level it gives an Error. We have to activate this at the

Installation level only. We will now try to assign an input parameter to a Parameter

Template so that we can assign the input parameter at the Installation level.

Page 3: EDM Activation of RTP Components I

To assign an input parameter to a parameter template click on the input parameter then go to

tab ‘Parameter temp.’ click on the checkbox for ‘Template required’ and press ‘Copy’. The

traffic light for the input parameter will change from Red to Yellow.

Now in the Installation click on ‘RTP Interface’ we see the below screen. Goto the tab

‘Component’ and select the checkbox ‘Activate’ and press ‘Copy’. So now the RTP

Component has been activated for the Installation.

Page 4: EDM Activation of RTP Components I

Now we need to assign the input parameter. Click on the input parameter, go to tab

‘Parameter‘ and assign the value for the parameter. It would look like this.

So this was all about Activation Type ‘Use and Activate Individually’.

Now we look at Activation Type ‘Use Individually and Activate Generally‘.

In here one has to activate the RTP Component at the RTP Interface level.

Page 5: EDM Activation of RTP Components I

the input parameters are assigned to Parameter Templates ,so that I can assign them at an

individual level in the Installation.

Input Parameter assigned to Parameter Templates

In the Installation the input parameters are assigned values.

Input Parameters assigned values in the Installation

Billing happens the normal way.

So one can ask that why do we need to use these activation types.

Page 8: EDM Activation of RTP Components I

Well SAP gives you the flexibility to model the use of your RTP Components depending on

Individual Installation needs depending on Individual tarrif changes or even limiting the

activation for certain times.

So instead of using the same input parameters for all the installation you can have individual

input parameters by just changing the activation type of the RTP Component and the priority

and using the Parameter Templates.

There is a very good example given in the help.sap site for this, do have a look.

Look into this link here ‘Activation of RTP Component – II’ for an example on this.
