The reason?

"Simplicity means the achievement of maximum effect with minimum means."

The ‘WHAT’ The main purpose of designing this course is to help students

overcome the stage fright and empower them with strong communication skills.

From day one every MFADT student is asked to make presentations and participate in class discussions, some do it really well but some whatever the reason maybe are unable to actively participate in such activities.

This course will help the ‘some who are unable to communicate’ their ideas or thoughts and enable them to communicate freely and effectively.

One does not need to be fluent in a language or have an excellent vocabulary to do so, all you need is an idea and a simple but effective way of presenting it. This is the main idea of designing this course.

The ‘STRUCTURE’ This course is made up of 15 sessions. From the very start it engages

students in building a strong communication skills by thinking about building an effective yet simple presentations.

It focuses on both the speech and presentational capabilities of every student and helps them to improvise on their weaknesses.

Students read a lot from books by Steve Mandel and Elizabeth P. Tierney’s focusing mainly on how to make simple yet effective presentations.

Students are also asked to work in a group and as an individual on various topics, they build presentations and actively state their opinion on their work. Self assessing their weakness and strengths.

It focuses on the basic two things: How well they understand the art of sending their message across and also How well they progress through their work by self assessment.

The ‘EXPLANATORY’ Argument Communication can be defined as an exchange of ideas and thoughts, one

might have brilliant ideas but if he/she doesn't have a simple but efficient way of putting them across they won’t go anywhere.

Hence it is important to have a good speech and presentational skills as these are the tools that empower a good communication.

People in any organization typically spend over 75% of their time in an interpersonal situation; thus it is no surprise to find that at the root of a large number of organizational problems is poor communications. Effective communication is an essential component of organizational success whether it is at the interpersonal, inter-group , intra-group, organizational, or external levels. organizational, or external levels.

Employers consistently rank public speaking and related communication skills as one of the top skills they look for in employees. Being an effective public speaker gives you the tools to make a difference in your business, in your community, even in the world.

The ‘EVALUATIVE’ Argument

I would rate the course in being a success when the students feel comfortable in using the two components ‘Speech’ and ‘Presentational Skills’ in an effective manner.

The course will be termed as useful only when whatever learned in these 15 sessions prove to have helped the students to get a basic idea of how to handle stage fright and how to convey their ideas across in a simplified yet fluent manner.

It might not make a great speaker out of everyone but will definitely help those who want to communicate freely and effectively. It is based on the idea of self assessment and self improvement through a structured approach of learning the basics of speech and presentational skills.
