JUNglE FEvERSpring saw the realisation of a fabulous Youth Theatre production in the Jungle Book, a great collaborative effort bringing together the skills of Youth Theatre members, practitioners including director David Durant, production teams and rest of The Courtyard’s staff. The show brought to life the original Kipling text, the comedy and the tribalism of jungle politics, weaving an enchanting atmosphere and immersing the audience in emotion and excitement. The professionalism and quality of performance from these two young casts was astounding, resulting in stellar recommendations from visitors and reviewers.A huge congratulations and thank you goes out to all the cast and their families and to the dedicated practitioners, technical crew and behind-the-scenes team that put time and energy into pulling off such a feat, a brilliant show all round!
COmEDy OF ERRORSClassic Shakespeare from The Courtyard’s Senior Youth Theatre, this play is set to bring laughs and exclamations when it opens Thursday 25 - Saturday 27 July. This is a story of two sets of identical twins, accidentally separated at birth. Expect humour and farcical goings on as a series of wild mishaps unfold on stage, and result in wrongful beatings, misinformed seductions, character arrests, false accusations, theft, madness and demonic possession. The Courtyard’s Senior Youth Theatre put a modern twist on the Bard’s comedy, bringing these issues to the forefront of today’s societal expectations.
FIlm-mAkINg ClUbIn partnership with The Rural Media Company we deliver 10 weekly sessions each term for budding young film makers. Led by David Jones, from Wind-Up World Films, these sessions are a brilliant way of learning how to use editing software on a Mac computer as well as how to use specialist filming equipment from Rural Media Company. With beginner and intermediate options, whatever your experience, why not give the club a try and see if you enjoy the experiment of bringing your world to the screen.

ARTS & OlDER PEOPlE PROJECTThis is a unique project that was established in 2010 and over the past two years has enabled local arts practitioners to deliver participatory arts-based workshops for older people across Herefordshire. The project aims to combat isolation for older people living in rural areas through direct access to the arts, and improve their personal independence by allowing them to become more active, improving health, wellbeing and quality of life.
Through the provision of training we hope to build stronger local communities who are able to support older people. Training sessions we have held allow arts practitioners, health care professionals and care staff to develop skills to enable them to provide arts based activities. Through networking events, conferences, and our new Arts and older People Forum we hope to raise awareness of older people’s issues whilst promoting models of best practice developed through projects we have initiated.
The Courtyard is delighted to become the first arts organisation in the UK to join the Dementia Action Alliance (DAA) and is taking steps to become a recognised ‘dementia friendly’ venue. Funded by the European Union (EAFRD) and Defra through the VITAL Herefordshire LEADER Programme and the Big Lottery Reaching Communities Fund. For further information on our projects please visit our website. And why not tweet @AliceCourtyard
