SHOTS Health News from NPRChronic Illnesses Outpace Infections As Big Killers Worldwideby JASON BEAUBIEN September 04, 2013

People around the world are getting healthier and living longer.Infectious diseases are declining around the globe. But at the same time, chronic health problems are on the rise, particularly in developing nations. "The leading causes of death and disability have changed from communicable diseases in children to non communicable diseases in adults. Eating too much has overtaken hunger as a leading risk factor for illness," the report states. Tim Evans, a health and nutrition specialist at the World Bank says:"Twenty or 30 years ago, we were dealing with diseases that were killers — childhood killers, infectious killers. Now we are dealing increasingly with diseases that are not primarily killing but causing chronic illness — heart disease, injuries, mental health.“And these issues are increasing in virtually all parts of the world, even in low- and middle-income countries.

A Healthy body and spirit means so many different things to different people. It is a sense of wholeness, a sense of knowingness, and a sense of something far greater and more wonderful.

When we get sick we have two paths to take, we can shrivel up and die or we can open ourselves up to a new journey.
