tea" with Pearl S. Buck (who won a Pulitzer Prize for her novel The Good Earth). As an adult, I was a guest speaker for some of the
Holt International parenting classes, and my mother's presentations served me well. Then, when I came to Fremont, I met a family who had attended one of those classes and had adopted children from

During the third trimester of the last school year, two teachers restructured their ELD lessons to "test" a new approach to teaching form and
function. They taught the ELD standards using content standards, and they incorporated the use of formal academic language sentence
frames. During the last month of school, teachers planned ELD lessons using this new approach. Our ELD Coach, Bernie Torres, worked with
them to streamline lessons plans and to ensure the rigor of the sentence frames. Each teacher will focus on one social studies or science content
standard each trimester, and students will rotate from teacher to teacher. Teachers will modify plans and instructional strategies to meet the needs of students at each ELD proficiency level. There will also be
lessons for English-only students; however, EO students who need extra support will be placed in the appropriate AEL group. A major advantage
of this system is that every teacher will be an ELD teacher, and every teacher will teach every student.
