Issue 07/20 – Tuesday 19 May EDUCOM Excellence, Opportunity, Care and Success www.mtrivervie-p.schools.nsw.edu.au Dear parents/carers, Over the last two weeks, Phase 1 of the ‘managed return of students to school’ plan has been implemented. It has been amazing to have students returning to school and enjoying their time with teachers and friends. On the whole, they have been committed to continuing their learning efforts throughout the period of change and shown resilience in how they have adjusted. The teachers have worked hard to continue programming and supporting students through Google Classroom whilst also teaching face-to-face at school. Our office staff have responded to the needs of the students, staff and community with professionalism and positivity. Parents have continued to juggle the demands of work and home life whilst supporting their children to continue engaging with their learning both here and at home. It has been a tremendous effort from everyone involved. We now have heard that students will be returning to full-time attendance at school from Monday 25 May. What this looks like exactly we are yet to know, however, what I do know is that the school staff and community will rally together to make it work for the benefit of the children. It will not mean our school is returning to completely normal operations and once again, there will be a period of transition. It may be a tumultuous time for many of the students, but also for our parents, carers and staff. If at any time, you have concerns about your child’s wellbeing, please contact the school to speak with your child’s teacher. It is vitally important that we work with you to support your child in their return to school. Dear parents/carers,

Over the last two weeks, Phase 1 of the ‘managed return of students to school’ plan has been implemented.

Library News Next week is National Simultaneous Storytime. Students across Australia have the opportunity to read, view and listen to this year’s book – ‘Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas’ by Lucinda Gifford. It is a bright, happy story about two chooks who get up to the most amazing things during the night. It works for all ages and puts a smile on your face as you read and take in the fabulous illustrations. I will post the links so all students can enjoy this special treat on Monday 25 May. Tune in anytime during the week – you don’t have to do it on the launch day (Wednesday) and help reach the target of one million students reading the book. You will never believe what fun these chooks have! Make sure you tune in! Abraham.R, William.M, Henry.B and Isla.B have finished their PRC. Great job boys and girls!

Community Reminders: School Security

Our school is a treasured part of the local community which we want to protect. It is acknowledged that people in the community like to use the school’s facilities, however, the grounds are not open to the public. Having people on-site after school hours without prior permission granted by the Principal presents a wellbeing risk to staff and increases the potential for damage to school property. As such, we ask that you support the school by informing your own children that they are not allowed in the school grounds after hours or over the weekend. Also, if you notice intruders in our school, and you feel comfortable to do so, please contact School Security 1300 880 021.

Reporting to Parents The NSW Department of Education has released guidelines for schools this week about the temporary changes to reporting for Semester 1, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Schools are required to provide a simplified, written report to parents which summarises a student’s progress and achievement in their learning, as well as information about where a student needs to work in their next steps of learning. The report needs to provide information about a student’s attendance and also about their commitment to learning. Teachers are not required to use the A-E scale in their reporting nor are they required to comment on all Key Learning Areas. Our school will be primarily focused on providing quality feedback about the learning students have undertaken in English and Maths. Teachers are in the process of collecting assessment information to support their development of student reports. Although schools have been given an extension for completing reports, we are planning to maintain our regular practice of sending them home in Week 10. Parent Resources: Office of e-Safety Commissioner During the COVID-19 pandemic, young people are spending increased amounts of time in online environments, engaging with others through various digital platforms. Now, more than ever, we need to be vigilant in understanding what children are engaging with and how we can support them. The ‘Office of the e-Safety Commissioner’ webpage has a vast range of information, advice and resources to support parents. To access the webpage: https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents

School Voluntary Contributions Can you help us purchase new classroom Maths resources??? This year our voluntary school contributions will be spent on updating the materials across the school used to teach Maths. If you are in a position to help, please contact the school office to make your contribution - $49 per student or $70 per family.
