• Changing of a solid into a liquid and a liquid into a gas on heating is called a change of state of that substance.

• For a substance to undergo a change of state, heat must eitherbe given to it or atken away from it.

The melting and boiling point of a substance

• The temperature at which a solid substance changes into a liquid is called the melting point of a substance.

• The melting point of water is 0˚C• The temperature at which a liquid

substance starts to boil is called boiling point of a substance . The boiling point of water is 100˚C.
