To export shrimp to USA, the interested countries must comply with the requirements established by the Law 101-162
Wich prohibits the importation of shrimp to those countries that don’t comply with the necessary measures to protect the Sea Turtles
Each year, inspectors from the State Department and NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) certify that the shrimp fleets of these countries meet their programs of care and protection of sea turtles during fishing operations of wild shrimp trawl with use of Turtle Excluder Devices.
Background
On March 1st of 2010, The
State Department of the
U.S.A, informed the
Government of México its
decision of not to grant our
country the certificacion
This was based on the results of the visits
made to Mexico , with the State
Department experts and NOAA in
conjunction with Mexican authorities,
during which violations were observed in
some of the offshore shrimp vessels
inspected
