Vocabulary Students will hear and repeat these English words with an understanding of their meaning: ham, jam, Pam (name), Sam (name). (i) Objectives (i) = introduce (p) = practice (a) = achieve Pronunciation Students will correctly pronounce several words that end with the letter combination “am”. (i) Materials required ABCmouse.cn website, whiteboard or digital projector and screen, speakers. (For the Closure step) One copy each of the picture printables for the words ham, jam, Pam, Sam. Procedure Teacher action Student action Warm-up (3 min) Display the ABCmouse.cn book Ham with Jam, with the Pause Between Pages feature checked. Tell students that you are going to continue to share this story with them. Ask them to tell you what they remember about the story, encouraging them to use the English words Pam, Sam, jam and ham. Talk about what you remember about the story. Step 1 (3 min) Play for students the title and pages 1 through 9 of Ham with Jam, pausing after each page to have students repeat the English words together. Note: If you wish to repeat a page, you can use the circular arrow icon that appears near the top right hand corner of the book after a page has played. Carefully listen to and repeat the words in the book. Step 2 (4 min) Turn off the speaker, then click on the bottom of page 9 to turn it and see the next page. Ask students to tell you about what they see in the picture. Help them to notice that someone is trying to give Sam some ham. Talk about whether or not he wants to have the jam, and who might be offering it to him. Click on the speaker to turn it on, and then roll the mouse over the icons on the page to play the words in two parts. After each part, have students repeat the words. Practice this a few times. Remember: If you wish, you can have students practice the pronunciation of each word separately, by click on each word to hear it. This can be done Describe the picture.
