He pointed out that some of the reasons for the taxi fare increas- ing includes the petrol price hike, as well as the cost of tyres and vehicle (taxi) maintenance. Before the in- crease, the taxi fare varied between R7.50 and R9.00 Mokoena said a consultation meeting was held with the commu- nity, informing them about the cir- cumstances that led to the taxi fare increase. Taxi driver Isaac ‘Bra Big’ Nt- sasa said that there is nothing they could do because the petrol price is increasing regularly. The second annual Free State enterPRIZE Job Cre-ation Challenge was launched on 18 March 2014 at the Windmill Casino and Entertainment Centre in

Bloemfontein. This exciting competition is aimed at job creation through the development of small and medium enterprises in the Free State.

The competition which is a partnership between the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DETEA), the Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) and the Flemish Interna-tional Cooperation Agency (FICA), will see contestants compete to win one of 75 prizes totaling R 7.5 million.

Last year alone the Free State enterPRIZE Job Cre-ation Challenge attracted in excess of 540 entrants from aspirant entrepreneurs across the Free State province.

Jens Dyring Christensen, ILO Chief Technical Advisor says, “One of the important means to address the very high levels of unemployment in the province is through the stimulation of entrepreneurship and in-novation allowing potential and existing entrepreneurs to identify and exploit new market opportunities thereby creating more economic growth.”

To enter the competition, or for more information visit www.enterprizejobchallenge.co.za. Entries close on 2 May 2014.

Buying Or Selling Immovable Property

(Part 1)

Despite the modern era of technology, cell phones, internet and access to information of whatever kind, it is saddening to see how many

people do not know their basic rights and obligations, especially with regards to immovable property. Im-movable property is something like a vacant stand, house, flat, business premises, etc. Consider the fol-lowing:

Joe Gutter sells a house to Luke Chimney for R250 000. Luke pays the purchase price, Joe vacates the property and Luke moves into the house. Then Joe dies and his children want the house back and they de-mand that Luke moves off the property.

Luke’s defense is that he bought the property from Joe and he is the owner thereof. Joe’s children go to an attorney who informs them that the property is still registered in the name of Joe Gutter and was never transferred in the name of Luke. The result? Luke has

Free State Education MEC Tate Makgoe officially opened the Beyers Naude

School Development Infrastruc-ture Projects under the Kagiso Trust for ten schools last Thurs-day in Maluti-a-Phofung, in the Thabo Mofutsanyana District Municipality.

Speaking at the opening of the projects, MEC Makgoe dis-closed that the partnership with Kagiso Trust contributed to changing education in the prov-ince because his department managed to obtain the first po-sition in the country in 2013’s Grade 12 results.

“Since the project has been

focusing on Maluti-a-Phofung especially in QwaQwa, the pro-gramme of helping schools will now be expanded to Botshabe-lo, Thaba Nchu and Fezile Dabi District because of the success and progress in QwaQwa,” said MEC Makgoe.

The schools that were pre-sented with these projects are Nthabiseng Secondary, Tshibol-lo Secondary, Lerato-Uthando Secondary, Mookodi Second-ary, Makabelane Secondary, Tsholo Secondary, Lekgulo Secondary, Tlokweng Primary, Machaea Primary and Thebe ya Kgomo Primary.

Maluti Bikers, Moifo, Rhino Riders and Big Fellas from

Maluti-a-Phofung donated food parcels and uniforms to needy children at Mafube In-termediate School last Friday in QwaQwa.

“We have decided to donate these food par-cels and uniform to this school because some of the learners are from poor fami-lies,” said Maluti Bikers President S’phiwe Beqezi. He pointed out that though it may not be enough to address the plight

of the kids they plan to do more in future. The school received R6,500, twenty kids got uni-forms and ten food parcels.

Beqezi stated that in the winter they will be donat-ing blankets to old people in QwaQwa, Kestell and Harri-

smith. Setlabotjha Sepheka, a biker and former learner at Ma-fube hoped that their donations would bring joy to the kids.

Maluti-a-Phofung, HDM Catering, BiBi Cash and Carry, Kamohelong Luxury Accom-modation and Ntsoaki Driving School played an important part in helping the bikers make the donation to Mafube.

“The Uniting Re-formed Church of Makong Village,

Qwaqwa held a farewell func-tion recently for Reverend Nombeko Winnie (66), who has been part of the church since 1985,” said Chairperson of the Church Louis Mdakane. Reverend Nombeko is retiring from preaching but will con-tinue attending the church.

According to Mdakane, the farewell function will re-main a good memory to her and her family as she was honoured and loved by the congregation. “We wanted to honour our mother who has always guided us in the name of Almighty God. She was a good leader who always led by example. We gave her a fridge, a stove, an oven, a frying pan and a winter blanket,” said Mdakane.

“I am a martyr of the

Christian name since I grew up in the Uniting Reformed Church following in the foot-steps of my parents,” said Reverend Nombeko Winnie at her farewell function that was held at the Uniting Reformed

Ground in Welkom following two disappointing away draws.

This victory sees Eagles en-trenching its top spot with 36 points on the Free State ABC Motsepe League log, while Dinonyana FC are condemned to 14th position.

Eagles will welcome Clarens Galaxy FC at Bohlokong Stadium

this coming Saturday in an eager-ly awaited Thabo Mofutsanyana derby. “I expect a humdinger since by their very nature derbies are dif-ficult.
