About vSAN LikeothervirtualSANproducts,vSANaggregatesstoragemediaoneachphysicalhostintosharedstoragepoolscomprisedofdiskdrivesand/orflashdrives.Embeddedintothehypervisorkernel,vSANallowsformoreoptimizationofthedatapathandsimplermanagement.
DesignedspecificallyforvSphereclusters,vSANwillscaletothemaximumnumberofnodesthataparticularvSphereversionsupports,currently64nodes.vSANhasinlinededuplicationandcompression,butisonlyavailablewithall-flashnodesandatthesystemlevel.Italsoofferssingle-anddouble-parityRAIDbetweennodes,commonlyknownasRAID5or6butwhatvSANiscalling“erasurecoding”.
