The Education in Zion Gallery can coordinate with any class to help fulfill the learning objectives, especially the spiritually strengthening component. Many professors bring their classes for an introductory tour and then the professor directs the class toward the elements of the gallery most pertinent to the course. The gallery can coordinate with classes to create customized tours and can be versatile in fulfilling professors’ learning outcomes. Tours are tailored to the needs of the class, as long as the professor lets the curator know in advance about a particular emphasis for the tour. The gallery is also available for classes in cases where professors are away at a conference or other function. Instead of canceling class, professors can send students go to the gallery for a tour, and gallery educators will even take attendance if requested. Dr. Michael Call, Department of Humanities, Classics, and Comparative Literature, said, “I’ve wondered how we can do that—how you can integrate the spirit into the teaching of something on its surface completely secular. I think the Education in Zion Gallery hints at many of those answers . . . Education in Zion helped me refocus on the spiritual aspect of learning.” Dr. Jerry L. Jaccard, School of Music, said, “I see a large number of students going through the process of self-discovery as they go through Education in Zion. They catch the vision of who they are in the educational process of the Lord and they realize that they belong here.” Education in Zion is a learning center with a multimedia exhibition occupying the beautiful gallery space in the Joseph F. Smith Building. The gallery and permanent exhibition explore a tradition of learning that aims to educate the whole soul and documents the rich history and heritage of education in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from the revelations of the Prophet Joseph Smith to the current worldwide Church Educational System. ### For more information, contact Heather Seferovich at 801-422-3451 or [email protected].

Gallery helps add a spiritually strengthening component

PROVO –The Education in Zion Gallery coordinates with a variety of organizations to create a mutually beneficial experience for BYU faculty and staff and helps add a spiritually strengthening component to curricula in many disciplines.
