editora note from the

KebinEditor-in-chief

It’s Roxy! Check her out!

I just want to point out how amazing it is to see how far the community has come since SBB first launched ENTM. In just a few years, we got ourselves an active fashion week with an abundant of incredible designers and a number of amazing competitions. We have a tremendous number of participants in the community to the point where we’ve needed our own board for it all! And obviously, have you seen the models popping up nowadays? It’s getting harder and harder for me as an editor to decide who to book, because everyone is so special and stunning! The bar’s been set so high, and I’m pretty sure it’ll only get higher.

We’ve also got a few supermodels along the way, and I’m happy to say that we’ve got THE supermodel on our cover this issue. Roxy Elabd has truly carved a name for herself in the fashion industry, and we are proud to feature a large spread (one of the largest in our history, actually) and interview with her. Check it out!

All I have to say is keep those dolls, keep those edits, keep those designs, keep those contestants, keep them all COMING! Because we’ve got a beautiful thing going on, and hopefully it’ll keep on thriving and growing as time passes.

“Once again, another amazing issue Personally, I loved "The Rebel" Ed the most, Sida was exquisite but I loved every inch of the issue! Amazing

Shine? She definitely does as she walks into the eL offices

It’s not only the fact that she’s wearing those amazing Jimmy Choo 2011 Peep Toe heels, bold black leather pants and a Burberry spiked leather jacket, covering an “eFashion” t-shirt. And her red hair, slicked back in a pony tail, still manages to crackle like a raging fire. Yet there’s something more to her. She’s got a confidence about her, a strength. Her walk says “I’m hot and I know it”, and honestly, it would be stupid of me to say otherwise. She ends up admitting that she is a bit nervous, but if she really is then she’s brilliant at hiding it. The girl who was once just a face in the crowd is now the face of now.

Roxy Elabd’s life nowadays is what every aspiring Candybar model strives the achieve. “Well, I've been busy 24/7. I'm doing runway shows left right and center. Doing print editorial work for magazines. I actually have a couple of upcoming big ones, maybe even another cover.” She winks at me, and I chuckle. “Campaigns. I'm even a judge now on ENTM 13 which I'm so happy to be a part of. Its crazy that I'm back to where I started to give girls advice. A true honour.” She removes her jacket to reveal her shirt underneath.

“And as you can see I will be hosting my own modeling show which will be extremely stunning and have its own spin. I can't wait for people to see it.”And actually, eFashion is currently a major hit of the gaming world.

And on top of that, she’s ranked #1 on Pseudoneuro’s Top 20 Working Models Rankings. She’s been the star of campaigns for designers such as LayneAudley and Alva . Roxy has truly taken fashion industry by storm. She is everywhere. Who wouldn’t want to be her?

The climb to where she is today wasn’tA straight path. “Well, my childhood was interesting so to say. I lived in Lebanon with both my parents and my younger sister Leyla. My parents were engineers for a nuclear plant. My parents tried to give us whatever we wanted but in Lebanon it was pretty limited. They saved up a lot of money for us because they worked in a dangerous job and felt like we needed security. One day, I got a call that both my parents died in a freak accident at the nuclear plant. My whole life changedfrom there. I got the money that they saved for us, took my sister and moved to New York City. “

“Modeling was always something I wanted to do. This was kind of a forbidden taboo in Lebanon. It was never discussed in my household back at home because it never existed there but I always had dreams when I was alittle girl walking down the runway during fashion week. It was my dream.”

“I moved to New York and it was a completely different world. Everything is driven by fashion there with all the different cultures. I was shell-shocked but in a good way. I would pass by and all I would see were high fashion magazines and I wanted to be on them so badly but my focus was taking care of my little sister and I with the little money we had.”

“I decided to go for 2 reasons. One being that I have dreamed of being a model since I was a little girl and I wanted to tip my foot in the water so to say, to see what its really like and the other reason was because I needed money badly to support me and my sister. We were on the verge of being homeless. It was a combination of determination and desperation.”

And how was the big day, when she went out for the auditions, I ask. She lets out a laugh.

“Did you see the way I looked during auditions. I was a girl who worked in a meat factory and was always being mistaken as a man. I go into the auditions and see all these beautiful young girls that naturally look like models and thought in my head "you have no chance in hell". I was extremely nervous because I felt like an outcast and didn't feel like I fit in.”

“Then the unthinkable happened and I got a call back saying I made it into the final cast of ENTM 7 and I literally **** in my pants. I was ecstatic and thought you are in for one hell of a ride.”

“The competition was definitely tough. The first few weeks were the toughest as they were my weaker weeks in terms of photoshoots and I was surrounded by a group of girls who were conventionally beautiful whereas I wasn't. So, I had my insecurities in the competition but kept them well hidden. Once, you show the other girls that..some of them might use it against you to break you down.”

“You'll be surprised to hear what the most challenging aspect for me was. It wasn't the photoshoots nor getting to know the girls cause I am a quite bit awkward but I love to binge on food.

There were days where all the girls were asleep and I would go straight to the kitchen and binge on every single thing possible. I thought if Kristy Alley could gain a couple of hundred pounds and lose it all then I could too!”

“My dream and my sister were the two big driving forces in keeping me motivated. I didn't want to let myself down nor did I want to let my sister down. We both needed this badly but for different reasons. Me because I live and breathe fashion. Leyla because I wanted to have a warm healthy cooked meal for her to eat when she would come home from school.”

“But luckily, all of that hard work Didn’t go to waste,” I say, “Because You freakin’ won! What was going onThrough your head at that moment?”

She lets out a big sigh. “To be honest, I had mixed of emotions. This was supposed to be me testing out the waters. I had never dreamed to have win this competition nor even making the cast. So, when they announced me as the winner I thought ‘**** me where the sun don't shine, you are not ready for this’”

“Then I found out I wasn't ready

mentally nor emotionally to face the world of fashion. So, I took time off to gather myself up to be a stronger person and I studied fashion so I could learn all aspects of it and made a come- back that no one was expecting.”

“But I guess that was a smart move,” I say, “Cause you have totally taken this industry by storm. You are probably the most successful model to come out of the ENTM franchise, and you are arguably the top face of the moment.”

“Its a huge honour for you to say that and to be where I am today is just…”She begins to tear up, and I call over an assistant to bring her some tissues. “I'm just speechless. I don't think I had it in me to go this far because of what people use to say to me and this is what I will say. I owe my success to my parents for giving me what life has to offer, my sister Leyla for being my drive and motivation when I felt down at times. Karin, who believed in me and let a girl with a different look like no other enter a competition where her dreams started. My fans who got me to where I am today because without them supporting me, I wouldn't be here. Myself, for having the strength and heart to carry out through the hard times because this isn't an easy job. My haters who called me a filler, who only drove me to nail

the screwdriver through each one of their heads and amazing people like you who believe in me and give me the work to showcase who I really am as a model.”

“So, what’s the superstar been up to lately?”

“I've been busy 24/7. I'm doing runway shows left right and center. Doing print editorial work for magazines. I actually have a couple of upcoming big ones, maybe even another cover…”

Roxy winks, and I laugh. “We’ll have to see, honey, but you’ve got a good chance.”

“Campaigns. I'm even a judge now on ENTM 13 which I'm so happy to be a part of. It’s crazy that I'm back to where I started to give girls advice. A true honor. And as you can see….” She opens up her Burberry jacket to flaunt her eFashion shirt. “ I will be hosting my own modeling showwhich will be extremely stunning and have its own spin. I can't wait for people to see it.

My goals are to be modeling till the day I die, even if it’s grandmother couture. I don't really care. I just hope I cement

myself to be one of the most iconicmodels to come out of the eLouai franchise and I may just be designing my own collection very soon. So, a lot of plans that will keep my behind skinny.”

“I will just say [to all the aspiring models out there] be yourself because once people see the real you and it shines through, you'll be seen as a confident person. To study all the fashion aspects because it helped me become extremely versatile. I have a certain trademark but yet I can do all aspects of work which designers love. Also, don't be scared of transformation because sometimes it'll do wonders for your career. It did for me. The most important one of all is to never give up or don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it because when people did that to me I did exactly this.”
