1 de noviembre, millones de estadounidenses han sentido los efectos de un corte automático en la asistencia para la compra de alimentos proporcionada a través del Programa de Asistencia de Nutrición Suplementaria (SNAP, por sus siglas en inglés). Esta es una asistencia que sirve para ayudar a las familias a recuperarse económicamente, y a los niños a recibir la nutrición que necesitan para mantenerse sanos y competitivos en el aula. Para muchas familias, estos recortes son devastadores, y no podrían haber llegado en un peor momento cuando empiezan a recuperar su estabilidad después de la peor recesión desde la Gran Depresión.Es por esto que el presidente Obama

cierre del gobierno, finalmente, detrás de nosotros, la Administración de inmediato se puso a trabajar en una de las principales prioridades del presidente Obama: terminar de arreglar nuestro fracturado sistema de inmigración. Con la legislación que acaba de reabrir nuestro gobierno ya firmada, el Presidente instó al Congreso a aprobar una reforma migratoria integral en su discurso al pueblo estadounidense: “Vamos a empezar las negociaciones. Pero no dejemos que este problema se mantenga enconado por un año, o dos años, o tres años. Esto puede y debe hacerse para finales de este año.”Al día siguiente, el Presidente

anunció su elección para dirigir el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional, el Sr. Jeh Johnson, y expresó su confianza en la capacidad de su candidato para asegurar que nuestro sistema de inmigración sea más justo y eficaz: “Tenemos que

arreglar nuestro fracturado sistema de inmigración de una manera que fortalezca nuestras fronteras, y modernice la inmigración legal y estar seguros de que todo el mundo esté bajo las mismas reglas. government shutdown finally behind us, the Administration immediately got to work on one of President Obama’s key priorities: finishing the job of fixing our broken immigration system. Having just signed legislation to reopen our government, the President urged Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform in his remarks to the American people: “Let’s start the negotiations. But let’s not leave this problem to keep festering for another year, or two years, or three years. This can and should get done by the end of this year.”The very next day, the President

announced his choice to lead the Department of Homeland Security, Mr. Jeh Johnson, and voiced his trust in his nominee’s ability to ensure our immigration system more fair and effective: “We’ve got to fix our broken immigration system in a way that strengthens our borders, and modernizes legal immigration, and makes sure everybody is playing by the same rules. And I’m confident that I could not make a better choice in Jeh, somebody who I’m confident is going to be moving not just the agency forward, but helping to move the country forward.”On October 24, the President

gathered a diverse coalition of leaders from faith, business, labor and advocacy communities to reiterate his commitment to commonsense immigration reform. He outlined the economic benefits of an earned path to citizenship and explained why fixing our immigration laws is both good policy and politics: “And if folks are really that consumed with the politics of fixing our broken immigration system, they should take a closer look at the polls because the American people support this. It’s not something they reject—they support it. Everybody wins here if we work together to get this done.”The following morning, the

President traveled to Brooklyn, New York to visit Pathways in Technology Early College High School, to acknowledge the area’s rich history of immigration and explain the importance of investing in America’s youth immigrant population: “…this whole borough is where generations of hopeful, striving immigrants came in search of opportunity—a chance to build better lives for themselves and for their kids. And that’s been true for decades. And I’m here today to talk about what we need to do, as a country, to build the same kind of opportunity for your generation, for the next generation, and for your kids, and for future immigrants.”A clear majority of Americans

believe commonsense immigration reform is the right thing to do. Now more than ever, it is vitally important to mobilize and make our voices heard!

de Kissimmee necesitan la ayuda del público para identificar a dos sospechosos implicados en el robo a K-Mart el domingo.El 3 de noviembre de 2013, aproximadamente

a las 5:44 a.m., los agentes de la Policía en Kissimmee respondieron al K-Mart ubicado en el 2211 West Vine Street, en Kissimmee, en referencia a un robo. Cuando los agentes llegaron se encontraron con una empleada quien dijo que mientras ella abría la tienda para el equipo de limpieza se dio cuenta de que varias de las vitrinas de vidrio en el departamento de joyería estaban rotas. Kissimmee police Llooking for K-Mart burglarsKissimmee, FL - Kissimmee police detectives

need the public’s help identifying two suspects involved in the burglary to K-Mart on Sunday. On November 3, 2013 at approximately 5:44 a.m.,

Kissimmee police officers responded to the K-Mart located at 2211 West Vine Street in Kissimmee in reference to a burglary. When officers arrived they met with an employee who stated that while she was opening the store for the cleaning crew she noticed several of the glass display cabinets in the

jewelry department shattered. Officers searched the building, but no suspects were found. The video surveillance showed the two suspects

crawling on the floor to avoid the motion sensors as they made their way to the jewelry department. One of the suspects is then seen breaking the glass display with a pickaxe. The suspect then removes several boxes of jewelry. The suspect slides the boxes across the floor to the other suspect stationed on the other side of the display cabinet. Detectives

learned the suspects entered the store by cutting a hole in the roof and entered the stock room area. Anyone with information about the suspects

or the crime is asked to contact the Kissimmee Police Department’s Property Crimes Unit at 407-846-3333, by e-mail at [email protected] or CRIMELINE at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477). Calls made to CRIMELINE remain anonymous, and tips that lead to the felony arrest of suspects are eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000 dollars.

Detectives identifican conductor involucrado en incidente de riña de tránsitoCondado Osceola, FL - Los

Detectives identify driver involved in road rage incident Osceola County , FL - Osceola

County Sheriff’s detectives have identified Charles Lundquist, Jr. (DOB 8/5/92) as the driver involved in a road rage incident that occurred on October 24, 2013. On October 31, Lundquist was brought in for questioning and cooperated with the investigation. Lundquist told detectives at approximately 10:30 a.m. he was at the intersection of Reaves Road and Poinciana Blvd. When a woman, later identified as Rose Garcia, was behind him and attempted to pass him on the right—driving on the grass to get around his truck. According to Lundquist this angered him and he accelerated to avoid Garcia

from passing him. Both vehicles continued onto Cypress Parkway with Lundquist in front of Garcia. Several times, Lundquist would slow down forcing Garcia apply on her brakes. Eventually, Garcia passed Lundquist on Cypress Parkway and Lundquist

Secretario del Tribunal de Circuito del Condado Osceola, Armando Ramírez se complace en anunciar el pago a la Junta de Comisionados del Condado Osceola de un cheque por trescientos treinta y tres mil novecientos nueve dólares con noventa y tres centavos ($333,909.93). El monto del cheque fue posible gracias a la prudencia fiscal del Secretario lo que ahorro a los contribuyentes del Condado Osceola miles de dólares en cuotas de registro no utilizados.

realizado por los miembros de la Organización de Estudiantes Latinoamericanos (LASO, por sus siglas en inglés) de Valencia College, quienes instalaron la ofrenda y participaron en el evento. El Día de Muertos es una

celebración mexicana que reúne a

familiares y amigos para recordar y orar por los miembros de la familia que hayan fallecido. Se celebra el día 2 de noviembre, pero comienza desde el 1 de noviembre. Esta festividad coincide con las

celebraciones católicas del Día de los Fieles Difuntos y el Día de Todos los Santos. La Unesco ha declarado la festividad como Patrimonio Cultural Inmaterial de la Humanidad.

Ejecutivo de la Administración de Asuntos Federales del Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico (PRFAA, por sus siglas en inglés), Juan Eugenio Hernández Mayoral, anunció que su gestión de conseguir co-auspiciadores para el proyecto de ley S. 1174 sigue dando resultados. Los senadores Lisa Murkowski, Republicana de Alaska, y Ed Markey, Demócrata de Massachusetts, se han unido como co-auspiciadores del proyecto de ley que otorgaría la Medalla Congresional de Oro a los veteranos puertorriqueños del Regimiento 65 de Infantería, mejor conocidos como los “Borinqueneers.” En un esfuerzo para lograr este

reconocimiento, el Director Ejecutivo le escribió al liderato del Senado y la Cámara para solicitarle la aprobación de esta medida. En el pasado mes de septiembre, PRFAA logró que el Senador Joe Manchin, demócrata de West Virginia, se uniera a este reclamo como co-auspiciador del proyecto de ley S. 1174. Además, la Asamblea Legislativa de Puerto Rico aprobó una Resolución Concurrente en la que se exhorta al Congreso aprobar una ley que le confiera la medalla a este grupo destacado de veteranos. “Estamos trabajando fuertemente

games into the Orlando Magic’s season and to say I’m surprised is an understatement. The Magic have upset big name teams like the Nets and the Clippers. I did expect the Magic to have a better season than last year, but the intensity and aggression Orlando is playing with is what’s so new. Combine those two elements with consistency and confidence, and you have the recipe for many more wins. The Magic are on a three game winning streak with the opportunity to take that to four tonight against the Boston Celtics. These last three wins have one

significant, impressive thing in common: Orlando has kept its opponents field goal percentage below 40 percent. The Magic’s opponents are repeatedly finding themselves in a 15 plus point deficit because the Magic are outworking them. Last Friday against the New Orleans Pelicans, Orlando quieted critics with an eighteen point lead at half time. By the final buzzer, Aaron Afflalo finished with thirty points. Jameer Nelson, Victor Oladipo and Nik Vucevic would each add ten. Andrew Nicholson had 14 points to go along with his four blocks. Nicholson has grown tremendously these first five games, especially defensively, which is where it was most needed. Moe Harkless grabbed eight rebounds and had twenty points. The Magic’s field goal percentage was twenty percent higher than the Pelicans making the 110 to 90 victory taste just a little sweeter. Sunday, the Brooklyn Nets came

to Orlando. Brooklyn has played the defending champions, Miami Heat, three times already between preseason and regular season; each

of those games resulting in a win. Their stacked, veteran team would be a challenge for Orlando. But when the Magic took the court all you could see was confidence. Nik Vucevic out-rebounded Brook Lopez. Jason Maxiell challenged Kevin Garnett holding him to just eight points. Last season Vucevic impressed the league and this season the chatter for Nik Vucevic to be an all-star has already started. Orlando’s guards, Afflalo, Nelson and Oladipo would put up 11 points each. While Los Angeles’ JJ Redick and Chris Paul did add a combined 35 points to evaporate Orlando’s 19 point lead, it wasn’t enough. Chris Paul looked frustrated the entire game and eventually fouled out. The Clippers were held to only 90 points while the Magic walked away from this nail biter with 98.
