Safety Precautions Operator of the equipment

Wear gloves, mask, and goggles.

Security operations

1. Dont introduce the hand when the equipment is under operation2. Dont wear watch, loose clothing or long hair.

Principle of the equipment

The equipment is used to measure the electrical response of a system. There are many configurations options available, but this SOP will highlight the use of a small A/C current to measure the impedance response, which is used to determine the resistivity of a porous material, such as cement.

Measurement Procedure

A) Point / Single Measurements using 2 electrode configuration:

1. Connect the cables and clips as shown in Figure 1. Short cables are typically used to reduce antenna effects.

Figure 1: Connections for single point measurements.

2. Find the icon on the desktop labelled: config.zpw and double click, shown in Figure 2.

3. Set the parameters on the screen shown in Figure 3. The selected tab should be Ctrl E: Sweep Freq, highlighted in the red box. The values presented in Figure 3 represents the range of typical values, but these might change depending on the experiment.

When the experiment is ready to begin, click the button Measure Sweep, highlighted in the blue box.

4. Figure 4 presents the screen that shown the progress of the test. Clicking the button labelled Switch to Z-view, highlighted with the blue box can be used to display nyquist and bode plots.

Figure 4: Progress of the experiment.

5. Plot view window, or Z-view is shown in Figure 5. The plot on the left is the nyquist plot and the plot on the right is the bode plot. Right clicking on the plots and selecting the AutoScale option will scale the axis to include the data points.

6. When the test is completed, the save dialog box appears, as shown in Figure 6. Select the location where you data is to be saved by navigating to the directory. Data analysis is discussed in the Data Analysis section of this SOP.
