JOB DESCRIPTION Job title: Electrical Surveyor Scale: G6 Reporting to: The Head of Green Energy and Servicing Main contacts (Internal) Northwards technical staff, All employees, Senior Managers and Partner agencies. Main contacts (external) Contractors, Northwards residents, Tenants groups, Leaseholder and Tenant Management Organisations, Manchester City Council, Consultants, and Councillors. Main purpose of the job: To assist in providing and developing the full range of electrical surveying and contract administration services for the annual electrical servicing programme and electrical planned and programmed maintenance for and on behalf of Northwards Housing. To inspect and arrange for the testing of electrical works within the Northwards area, ensuring programme maintenance, responsive repair and testing of works are carried out in accordance with legislation and management productivity targets. To play a key leading role in encouraging a partnering ethos with our Partnering Contractors. Actively promote Northwards Housing vision, values, policies, aims and objectives through personal example and positive direction to ensure that they translate into practical and effective action. Key Areas of Responsibility To assist in managing the delivery of the electrical servicing programme including a full range of cost effective diagnostic, design, inspection and procurement services relating to the repair, maintenance and improvement of varied domestic and commercial properties. To monitor systems for inspection and maintenance of electrical services and appliances within Northwards Housing tenants' homes and offices. Take action to ensure that relevant legislation and safety standards are met and tenants/staff safety are secured

    Main purpose of the job:

  • When required collate information from electrical surveys to assist the contract administrator in the programming of Northwards home improvement schemes.

    To provide comprehensive professional, design, detailing and contract administration services on a diverse range of commissions for Northwards Housing when needed, fully utilising in house IT support systems.

    Be part of an effective operational team, focused on achievement of service plans and departmental priorities, providing guidance in your area of professional specialism.

    Contribute to the development of a culture of collaborative working within the team, including coaching and training team members to ensure optimum service delivery to Northwards residents.

    Assist in the development of minor schemes that reflect Northwards priorities and ensure they are realised through enthusiasm, clear direction and appropriate use of resources required to achieve compliance, including external resources as required.

    To achieve targeted performance objectives, by close monitoring and regularly reporting on progress and financial issues.

    To promote and encourage excellence in design and specification of all projects undertaken by the team.

    To implement with commitment the role of lead officer on all capital & revenue schemes where needed, along with servicing, inspection and repair works assigned to the post holder, co-ordinating the work of all disciplines included in the design, administration and inspection of these.

    Identify and prepare risk assessments to address relevant Health and Safety issues relating to all electrical aspects of the service provided and undertake the duties of a designer as defined within the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007.

    To deal with difficult situations and resolve disputes and contractual claims in a professional manner.

    To ensure services provided are effective and clearly demonstrate value for money, along with a commitment for continuous improvement and high customer satisfaction.

  • PERSON SPECIFICATION

    Skills and Ability

    Knowledge of all aspects of the electrical Installation and maintenance and related construction industries including contractual matters and legislation together with appropriate dispute resolution methods.

    Successful track record of technical expertise in relevant area of service.

    Have design and project delivery skills and an understanding of how these attributes can be maximized in a multi-disciplinary working environment.

    To undertake the duties of a professional electrical surveyor independently and with a minimum of supervision within a team environment and respond positively and flexibly to a changing environment.

    Evidence of continued professional, technical and personal development.

    Ability to communicate clearly with all contacts to develop relationships and provide reassurance to all persons affected by or involved in the works, through face-to-face contact, public meetings, written communication and the like.

    A positive contributor to organizational and cultural change whilst seeking to create equality in service delivery.

    Holds a current driving license and willingness to work within any area of Northwards.

    Experience / Qualifications To have successfully obtained the following;

    Higher National Certificate in Electrical Engineering or City & Guilds Certification in Electrical Installation or equivalent qualification and 5 years post directly related experience.

    City and Guilds Inspection and Testing and 17th IET wiring Regulations.

    Working towards or registered with the Engineering Council as an Incorporated Engineer.

    Candidates will need to provide documentary evidence in support of qualifications.
