Measure powder before baking..............

Save set up time Improve your Bottom Line

Improve Quality

Reduce Rejects

If you could predict the thickness of cured powder at the point where you apply the powder coating wouldn’t that be valuable?

Now you can do just that with ElektroPhysik’s Powder Probe!

It’s a known fact that the cured thickness of powder coating is a function of the amount of powder coating applied before baking. The relationship of cured thickness to powder applied depends on factors such as the density of the powder and other factors. However it is linear relationship that can be predicted and by determining the “shrinkage factor” or ratio of applied powder to cured thickness can allow you to hit your cured thickness on the front end.

Even better it can help you tighten your tolerance thus reducing the overall amount of powder used which translates to real dollars.

Here is how it works, you measure the amount of powder applied before baking. After it bakes and cures, measure the same area. The difference between the applied powder coating and the cured thickness is the shrinkage factor.

If that factor is determined to be 35%, and your target cured thickness is 2.25 mils, the amount of powder coating that you need to apply is 1.53856 X the target (2.25 mills) = 3.4 mils of powder.

3.5 mils x .65 = 2.275 mils cured or within less than 1% of target.

This factor remains constant changing only as formulations or vendors change.

The Powder Probe from ElektroPhysik is compatible with the MiniTest 4100

This coating thickness testing gauges can be outfitted with a standard probe for measuring dry cured film thickness, so this set-up gives you most flexibility and utility of any system in the market today.

The Powder Probe is a contact measurement but with the three micro-probes incorporated into the design of this probe it leaves no trace of measurement behind.

Also the sensor is designed with a deflection foil that displaces the measurement at the point of contact with the surface.

Unlike other methods costing $15,000 to $18,000 .The Powder Probe by ElektroPhysik costs fractions less with systems beginning at just under $2,500.00 which includes the MiniTest 1100, F1.6 Powder Probe and F1.6 Standard Probe.
