P. Joachim Lepcha

Seeds of love and service

One of the questions I ask parents in Baptism Interviews before their child’s baptized is, if they remember anything about their own baptism. One common answer they have is that they do not in fact remember anything about their own baptism. But only the long term effects of baptismal grace and guidance of their parents, their faith slowly matured through the sacraments and even married life. Now they take the same decision that their parents took and want to baptize their child. “The seed sprouts and grows without the farmer knowing how it happens.” (Mk 4:27) We do not yet fully understand our future destiny, but this we do know, that “each one will receive his recompense, good or bad, according to his life in body.” (2 Cor 5:10). The seed planted in our baptism is growing, although we may not recognize it. “I will plant it on a lofty mountain; it shall put forth branches and bear fruits.” (Ezek 17:23) Therefore we need to believe that the seed of life keeps growing in us even though we are unaware of it.

When we see our parishioners growing happier, fulfilled, committed to helping one another especially our parish community and more relaxed even in the midst of pandemic. I can see they have changed for the better; more self-confident, empathetic and caring for others, I can see the seed growing and am now a witness of this. Last Sunday, memorial weekend, the whole Spanish community of our parish came together, worked hard, united and did something marvelous! This ministry arranged a drive-thru food fund raising event, they raised $16,000 for the maintenance of the church. I want to thank each and every one of you who came out and supported this event and made it a successful one. It is a sign of the seed planted in us. Showing in us the grace and power of the Holy Spirit that leads us to do something great for the glory of God.

We as Christian members of the mystical body of Christ, called to sow seeds of Christian Love in the hearts of those whom we meet and serve. I also thank all the online supporters of our parish. Your spirit of zeal and concern for our community is undeniably worth mentioning to God, that he may grant in double fold of what you share to the community. When the parish was suffering and the Church was closed down. All those who gave online and many others who dropped off their donation in the rectory, you all stood firm to support the parish. You never said, “It is not my problem”. Nor did you sit back and wait for someone else to make the world a better place. Each of you shown me that each one of us can do something loving and caring for someone else. You didn’t want to see the bad result of the discouraged world to give or to share, you believed that the love-seeds we sow will grow in mysterious ways.

The graduation day of our School was this past Wednesday. We have Mission Appeals and Together in Mission commitments that are launched. It seems like we never stop receiving donation envelops for our Church, School, and for helping other churches who are suffering around world. The seed of new life keeps growing within us, sprouting mysteriously. The seed of faith, of justice, of compassion. Let us rejoice in the baptismal seed planted in us! Amen.

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH June 13, 2021

Dear friends, Together in Mission 2021 Campaign launches this weekend June 5/6. Your DONATION will help 67 parishes and 74 schools counting on our support to provide the essential resources for our struggling parishes and schools as well as continue serving the spiritual needs of our neediest communities throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

In unity, let us strengthen our charitable works for our poor through faith, hope and love. Through their ministries and education supported by funds provided by the annual appeal, recipient parishes and schools are able to reach out to their communities and make the message of God’s love known to those around them. We are in this together — the mission of helping our fellow brothers and sisters. This year’s theme: “FORWARD WITH FAITH.” Yes, we move forward in spite of the challenging year we had and trusting in God for better months ahead! This year, our parish is tasked with raising approximately $ 76,537.00 for Together in Mission. Please prayerfully consider sharing the abundant gifts that God has shared with each of us. Envelopes will be passed out at each Mass this weekend. Please make checks payable to "Together in Mission." For details or to make an online donation or pledge, visit www.ourmissionla.org/give. Or go directly to our website and follow the link to donate. If you have made a gift in the past, a letter should arrive in your home soon asking you to renew your support. Thank you for your past generosity. 2021 Appeal Update - Our parish raised $ 85,789.00 for Together in Mission last year, which was just shy of our goal of $ 88,789.00 , even in the pandemic. Thank you to everyone for your kindness and generosity! Father Joachim Lepcha
