Academic Recognition Video
2020 Graduation Edition10CELGIN COURIER
Instead of an in-person banquet, this year Elgin High School celebrated their seniors’ awards and accomplish-ments with a video released online on Tuesday, May 19.
The video featured each grad-uating student who has received academic honors, completed early college high school programs, planned to join the military or been awarded scholarships for their future education.
Rick Reyes, the principal of Elgin High School, said in the video that, although it’s diff erent this year, the senior academic awards ceremony is one of his favorite events.
“It provides us a chance to not only celebrate our students, but see them being rewarded for their hard work,” he said.
Reyes said that Elgin students received a total of $40,000 from local scholarships, $15,000 from military grants and over $800,000 university scholarship grants and educational benefi ts.
A link to the video can be found on the front page of the Elgin ISD website at www.elginisd.net.

Congratulations!“He was truly a joy to be around. His competitive spirit was as great as
any kid I ever coached, but he always seemed to keep things in the proper
perspective. After the game, he was always the same happy kid that we loved.
He had a true love of the game. I tell all of my Austin High players about Gary.”

Senior Moment:
My favorite mo-
ment of senior
year was walking
the football field
one last time
with the Purple
Diamonds on
senior night.

“Some of my favorite senior moments are captured in the
photo. Thanking God that I made it was a feeling not cap-
tured; however, playing basketball, which I love, being able
to start the track season (although it was cut short), and
being student worker to the College and Career Center,
where my Aunt Sky Perkins is a part of, are also favs of mine.
The all-time moment was having Tabor College in Kansas
look at me for track, offering me a scholarship, and then
turning around to be accepted into the nursing program at
Texas State University.”
