Greetingsall!Ihopeyouhavebeengivingsomethoughttowhatyouaregoingtomakeforthepresident’schallenge.IthoughtIwouldreviewtheguidelinesforthechallenge.Youmustusesomeofthecolorsonthepageyoutoreoutofthemagazine.Youdonotneedtouseallofthecolorsonthepageandyoucanaddothercolors.Whatyoumakeistotallyuptoyou.Itcouldbeabag,aquilt,atablerunnerortopper,orawallhanging.Becreativeandhavefun.IwillhavemagazinesattheJulymeetingforthosewhowerenotherelastmonth.

• Doyouknowhowtowindabobbin?Thereshouldbeaholeonthesideofyourbobbin.Runyourthreadthroughtheholefromtheinsideout.Putitonyourmachineandholdontothethreadasitwinds.Finishfillingthebobbinandvoila!Noslippingortangles.

• You can take your quilting books to a copy/print shop and have them spiral bound. This allows the book to stay open and flat while you’re using it.

Lauraisnotsurehowlongshehasbeenamember,atleast8years.Herfirstpositionheldwasmembershipchair-electandthennextyearwasmembershipchair.Shethenwentontoprogramchairandalsohasbeenonthemembershipcommittee.Shehasbeenthewebmasterfor3yearsandthisyearisVicepresident/Presidentelect.Lauragotherstartinquiltingover30yearsago.Whenherdaughterwasborn,shebegansewingforher;EasterdressesandChristmasitems.HergreatgrandmotherwasaseamstressinCopenhagen,DenmarkandherGrandmamadelotsofclothes,manywithoutapattern.LauragraduatedfromUNI(late1990's),andgotinterestedinquiltingmoreseriouslywhenafriendinvitedhertoasmallgroupofquilters.Thatwaswhenherpassionreallybegan.Shelikesvarietyandisalwaysreadytotrysomethingnew.Shelikespaperpiecing,butthinkshandsewingistootimeconsuming.Sheenjoysthewholeprocessofquiltingfromcutting,piecingandfinishingthequiltonherlongarm.LauralovesStonehengefabricsfortheirearthiness.Herfavoritecolorispurple.Shehasseveralprojectsinprocess.HernextbiggerprojectisCowabstractionsbyVioletCraft.

SheismakingThe“HolsteinFriesian”versionthatistheblack/whiteversion.

MEMBERSPOTLIGHT--MARYMUMMMaryhasfoursisters,theirspouses,and8niecesandnephews.Shehasbeenamembersince2014andhasheldthepositionsofMembership-electandMembershipChair,andmemberofProgramCommittee.Maryhasbeensewingalherlifeandhasbeenmakingbabyquiltssincethe1970’s.SheBranchedoutandlearnedaboutrotarycuttingandquiltpatternsstartingin2006.She’sbeenhookedeversince.Herfavoritestyleofquiltisanystylethatischallengingtoher.Shestrivestolearnsomethingnewfromeachquiltshesews.Herfavoritefabricsarebatiksinblues,greens,andpurples.NextonheragendaisfinishingupsomeofUFOs.Shehassomanythatchoosingthatchoosingwillbethetoughpart.
