President’s Message Jill M. I’m LOVING these longer days! Somehow it feels like we have more time to get “the list” done when there is more daylight. Why is that? As mentioned at the last couple of meetings the Bylaws Review Committee is beginning their bi- annual review. The Board met last week and discussed a variety of small issues relating to the Bylaws and Standing Rules. As a result of that discussion, the Board is asking the membership to consider increasing the quilt show commission percent for non- members from the current 15% to 20%. President’s Message Jill M.

I’m LOVING these longer days! Somehow it feels like we have more time to get “the list”

done when there is more daylight. Why is that?

As mentioned at the last couple of meetings the Bylaws Review Committee is beginning their bi-annual review. The Board met last week and discussed a variety of small issues relating to the Bylaws and Standing Rules. As a result of that discussion, the Board is asking the membership to consider increasing the quilt show commission percent for non-members from the current 15% to 20%. Making this decision now, rather than waiting for the results of the Bylaws Review Committee, will allow optimal communications and planning regarding the 2016 show.

I will not see you at the April 11 meeting as I will be out of town, however, VP Kathleen is well armed to steer the Guild ship! I’ll see you later in April.

Community Food DriveJane Davis

Continued thanks to everyone who donates a can of food or some money to the food drive.

As you know, the food bank we support is run by Nativity Lutheran Church--the same place where Community Quilts meets every Wednesday. The church reported the following information for 2015: 1,799 families served--which includes 6,576 people. They distributed 110,350 pounds of food in 2015! The average cost per visit (for a family receiving food) was $12.25. We have been told that the contributions from Guild members last year took care of about a month of food for the families.

Each month at the Guild meeting there is a box for food donations and a small jar for monetary donations. If you want a receipt for your monetary donation, you are welcome to put in a check made out to Nativity Lutheran Church.

Community QuiltsDiana L., Sue W., Cathy C.

Community Quilts workday will be Wednesday, April 13th from 11:00-2:30. We will meet, as usual, at Nativity Lutheran Church which is at the corner of SE Knott and Brosterhaus in Bend. Bring a Community Quilts project to work on, lunch and machine/notions for your project. If you don’t have a CQ project, we have plenty at the church along with lots of nice fabric and batting. Contact one of us if you have any questions.

We will continue with our Community Quilts prize drawing each month. Hope everyone is enjoying the new idea. We have received so

many nice quilt donations and will distribute in early April.

“Page 38 Challenge” Shannon P.

You have been challenged to find a non-quilting, non-crafting book and turn to page 38. Take inspiration from that page and create a quilt! You may be inspired by the colors, or the design of something on the page. The overall layout of the page may make for great inspiration in a non-traditional quilt layout. It might just be an ad with lots of type, but what a great idea for all those cool type print fabrics. It may be something as small as the color of the page title, or as simple as the page number 38. I've seen some great home layouts in some of the magazines I've looked at that have provided multiple inspiration ideas. Now to size... We

want it to mimic the size/shape of a page, 8.5 x 11. So, if you multiply those numbers by 2, 3, 4, or 25, that's the size of your quilt. Example (8.5 x 11) by 3 equals 25.5 x 33, (8.5 x 11) by 5 equals 42.5 x 55. Also, keep the page. Take it out of the magazine. I will have page protectors available at our June meeting. The page will be pinned to the quilt. On the page, write what magazine the page came from.

Have fun!!! I can't wait to see the results!

Quilt Registration-Please go ahead and register your quilts. Thanks for your patience. Please just chalk this up to insufficient communication. Next year's show criteria may and will change. This year charges are to be $10.00 per quilter per special exhibit.

10th Annual Wish Upon A Card 2016 - Postcard sized artwork is sold at Quilter’s Affair and several locations in Sisters during Quilt Week and the Show. SOQS will donate the proceeds to the Visual Arts scholarship at Sisters High School to benefit students pursuing visual arts and design higher education.

There are instructions for making and donating cards on the SOQS website http://sistersoutdoorquiltshow.orgThere is also a fabric design challenge from Michael Miller fabrics for postcard makers. These are fun and easy to make.

Quilt Block Contest 2016Corni Q. has the packets of special fabric for the annual quilt block challenge for $10. These

blocks are made by quilters from many parts of the world and displayed at the quilt show. Winners receive enough blocks to make a quilt. Visit the SOQS website for more details. BLOCKS ARE DUE JUNE 15 each year.

Volunteer! There's something special about the Sisters’ Quilt show that visitors might not know. There are over 500 volunteers behind the scenes and on the front lines performing priceless work and having fun doing it. There'll be more information in future newsletters or you can sign up on the website.

SOQS 2017 Theme AnnouncedThe Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show Board of Directors announced that the theme for the 2017 Quilt Show is Storytellers, based on the idea that every quilt has a story. There are stories about place (Three Sisters & Mt. Bachelor native origin stories, the town of Sisters, a river, or a place in time), making of a quilt (inspiration, memory, gift, and celebration), any person, place, or thing. Here in the Quilt Show office, we get to hear any number of stories about the quilts shared and displayed at the annual event. Tell us your story at [email protected].

know other guild members in addition to seeing beautiful quilts! It’s a good time to clear out your sewing space and earn some $$$ at the Sales Table which is a favorite at each show. Looking for another fabulous day!Thank you for all your help.
