Port allocation in VHA
• Careful about object dependency in Ellipse• Always edit/save a dependent object
• E.g., for trunk circuit along same chain ID (e.g., multiple 1xE1 circuit for same path),need to save/commit changes for each 1xE1 circuit, before starting making changes onanother 1xE1 circuit within same trunk.
• E.g., if a NE already being used in a circuit, its port connection needs to be removed first,
before any changes in NE can be made. If in doubt, remove all circuit using NE beforeediting NE
• “automatic port allocation in circuit level will assign any free port “first” found by ellipse(e.g., if first free port is port 4, this port will be assigned for requested connection)
• Define NE• according to HW type (e.g., OMS, DXX, DDF, 2G/3G RBS, CX600, RNC/BSC)
• Define total # of total port = input port 3 + output port #
• Subrack/slot/port hierachy to be matched with panel to unique ID port #
• Port definition• Capacity used on each port is NOT known until a physical mwlink or LL is connected with
that NE port
• Same NE type has different # of port, because of using MUX function to input/outputdifferent capacity (see next slides)
• For different scenario of mwlink/LL to NE, # of port will be different, since input/outputport capacity may be different

How to allocate port for OMS – 1
• microwave 2138 – 2276 SIAE radio ALC+2 has 70E1 capacity
• SIAE has a optical connector connect to OMS3200 at site 2138•If E1 terminates at OMS, port allocation will be directly to trib unit
• objective here is to connect all E1 circuit going through P21382276V1 ALC+2 microwave
to OMS3200 at 2138 and allocate port 1-10:14 in Ellipse
[unrelated to port allocation, here but same port 1-10:14 at OMS is re-used for different mw linkà error in visio

Go to RNC via
LL or ring
• typical example where a TN can have some mw link 35E1 and 20 E1 have some MMU/LTU
termination/hopped mwlink and some E1 to/from chained Node B
• optical connection from TN to STM-based OMS, then to RNC via LL or ring path routing
• Siae ALC/AL is similar to TN except E1/STM output has different scability (i.e., require
different # of SIAE combination for different # E1/STM1), since SIAE radio has max of 16E1

How to allocate port for OMS – 3
OMS
2138
Port 10.14 of OMS is connected
to port 71 of MUX new
From either NE level or circuit level, when assigning port connection
between mux new and OMS, # of
requested connection = 1

How to allocate port for OMS – 5
For circuit 3G-2100-2276_1 (first circuit in this 5E1 trunk circuit)
•Trib #1 of mwlink 2138-2276 connect to port 1 of NEW MUX
• port 71 (output port) of NEW MUX connect to port 10.14 of OMS at 2138
Can use “display all physical port” checkbox to display all connectable port
(ie.., useful port range). E.g., range is port 1..70 between NEW MUX andmwlink 2138-2276 for input E1 ports

How to allocate port for OMS – 6
• port allocation for inter-NE connection or NE-link connection can be
either automatic or manually distributed
• for 70E1 mw link connect o Node B with 10 port, automatic port
allocation will distribute port 1..10 of Node B to trib 1..10 of mwlink
