ELS Turnitin-GradeMarkTurnitin is currently being used for E-submission of text-based assessments across the University. What about E-marking using Turnitin’s GradeMark ?

Quick E-submission refresher• Create an ASSIGNMENT FOLDER including the
student declaration text• Within the folder create two TURNITIN submission areas

Activity: Assignment submission
1. Log in to Blackboard and click on the relevant module link(for today, click on the module ‘ELS – Turnitin-GradeMark ’)
2. On the left menu click on Examples
3. Open the Biology Assignment 1 – frogs.doc and save it to the desktop
4. On the left menu click on Assignments and click into the folderFrogs of the genus Rana (deadline 3pm Fri 24 th Feb 2012)
5. Beneath Frogs of the genus Rana FINAL submissions click on View/Complete
6. Fill in the submission form with a fictitious student name and submission title , then browse and upload your assignment from the desktop and follow the onscreen instructions to submit

2. Under Course Tools click on TurnitinUK Assignments
3. Click on View beneath the relevant FINAL assignment submissions area(for today, click on View beneath Frogs of the genus Rana FINAL submissions )
Navigating GradeMarkThe student submission appears on the left of the split page.
Navigation tools appear at the top in the black tool bar.
The submission details – title , author (unless anonymous), Similarity Index and Grade –appear just below the black tool bar.
The GradeMark tools are shown at the bottom right of the screen:

•Submission details (e.g. author, title)
•Similarity Index
•Space for the Grade to be entered
•Navigation tools (on the black tool bar)
•L & R arrows , to cycle through submissions
•Drop down list , to move directly to a script
•Zoom in/out bar (bottom)
Quick Marks• Text Comments can be inserted anywhere
on the script
• Bubble Comments can be inserted anywhere on the script, can include more detail, and can be saved for reuse
• GM provides a bank of pre-installed Bubble Comment ‘Sets ’ which can be used as is or added to if required
• You can add new Bubble Comments to existing ‘Sets ’ or add new ‘Sets ’
• When you hover over a Bubble Commentdescriptive text appears

•Insert a new Bubble Comment onto a script and move it around the script (pages 89-91)
•Highlight some text and insert a new Bubble Comment onto a script to attach the comment (pages 89-91)
•Delete a Bubble Comment from a script (page 90)
•Insert some free-text (inline) onto a script (page 92)
•Change the Set to one of the Sets already provided (e.g. ‘Commonly Used ’, ‘Format ’, etc.) and insert an existing Bubble Comment onto a script. Add some further Comment to personalise (pages 93-94)
•Open the Quick Mark Manager and add your own Set (pages 94-95)
•Insert a new Bubble Comment and save it in your Set for reuse (pages 96-97)
•Change to the Set you added earlier to view the saved Bubble Comment ready for reuse (page 93)
General CommentsThe General Comments tool simply enables markers to add comments relevant to a particular script and, hopefully, useful to the student.
Multiple markers can edit these comments if required.
The tool consists of:
•a free-text entry box
•an Edit button (not shown here) – use this to enter some text
•a Save button – use this before exiting to save your comments
Comments List
This tool simply produces a linear list of the Quick Mark Comments provided for the student.
It is broken down by page and, to the right of the page number, you will see the number of comments made.
The comments may be expanded or collapsed .
As the student hovers over a commentin the list a hyperlink appears which, if used, takes them directly to that comment in the script.

Rubrics
Standard rubric - allows you to enter scale values and criteria percentages. The maximum value for the Standard rubric will be the same as the highest scale value entered
Custom rubric - allows you to enter any value directly into the rubric cells. The maximum value for the Custom rubric will be the sum of the highest value entered in each of the criteria rows
Qualitative rubric - allows you to create a rubric that has no numeric scoring

Please don’t attach the rubric to an assignment as this will result in us removing each others scorecards!!
•Export one of your rubrics and save to the desktop (page 111)
•Upload your rubric file (.rbc) to the Blackboard mo dule by modifyingthe relevant existing item under the Examples menu(e.g. Tii Qualitative Rubric , Tii Standard Rubric , Tii Custom Rubric )
•From Blackboard save one of your colleagues rubric file to the desktop
•Import your colleagues rubric file (page 112)
GradesGradeMark enables you to …
•Provide a grade for each submission.
•Amend the grade - possibly through agreement with a second marker - as often as you like (grades in Bb are usually ‘unconfirmed’).
•Automatically pass the grade to the Bb GradeCenter – but note that there is no connection between Bb GradeCenter and Banner Gradebook.
•Release the grade/comments to the student on selected post date .
