Chronicles from the Cage:"In the Grand Scheme of Things"

Using the word "tired" is not even close to adequate in describingour current state coming back from Spring Break. This trip wasphysically, emotionally, and in some aspects spiritually taxing onus all. It was a roller coaster of a week containing the full spec-trum of emotions, some very challenging and others very positiveand rewarding. Fortunately, the peaks and troughs of the weekdid not occur absent of benefit or acquisition. In any high pointand in any valley of life, there is a lot to be learned from eitherstandpoint.

The wonderful thing about sports is that it sets up an avenue fornumerous life lessons to be learned both inside the diamond andoutside of it in the context of a team. One of the most beneficialexperiences from this trip was the challenge given to us to capi-talize on our blessings. God has blessed us immeasurably! Notonly are we financially blessed to have all of the necessities of life(and in abundance), but we are blessed to have the greatest trea-sure of all - the Gospel. During this trip we had the opportunity touse both of those blessings to be a blessing to others. Each ofthe five rooms of girls was given $20 to be a blessing to some-one who worked at the hotel and converse with them with the pur-pose of potentially sharing the Gospel with them if the Spiritopened up the door. With the aroma of Christ, the topic of theGospel was bound to come up.

One of the coolest stories that I heard occurred when Danielle,Laura, Brooke, and Angela got the chance to speak with a youngMuslim from Morocco. They were able to get to know the youngman and learn about where he was from and about some of thedifferences between Morocco and America. This lengthy conver-sation led them to the different religions in each respective area, and after hearing what he believed as a Muslim and being able tointroduce challenging thoughts, this group got to share theGospel with this man! After the conversation, they gave him theblessing of the money and a miniature New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs Bible that the Gideons handed out in chapel beforewe left. When the girls checked back the next day, the man hadalready started reading Philippians!

Elyssa Reyes is a sophomore outfielder/second base-man from Poway, California. She is a Dean’s List stu-dent as a nursing major.
