I will collect any money brought (lunch, milk, fieldtrip, etc.) or notes from home by calling for each.

Students will copy the assignments for the day off the whiteboard into their student planner.

When the bell rings at 8:00 all students should be prepared and ready for the day.

Arriving Late or Leaving Early Students will not be permitted to enter my

classroom after 8 without prior consent from me or a tardy slip from the office.3 tardies will be counted as an absence.

Leaving Early? If at all possible, please send a note with your child

in the morning telling me when he/she will be leaving so that I can have all make-up work ready to go.

Students need to be checked out at the office by a legal guardian (or person on the checkout list) before the student is permitted to leave the classroom.

Didn’t Make it to School? Excuses must be turn into the office upon arrival

back at school. Any missed assignments will be placed in a yellow

folder located on my desk. Your child’s name will be written on the top right corner of the page.

Upon returning to class, the student will have one day longer than the length of the absence to turn in the assignments.

No make-up tests or quizzes will be given to students with unexcused absences. Work should be submitted in the purple folder located

on my desk. No late work will be accepted.

Let’s Go HOME!!!! Check the board to make sure you have everything

you need to do your assignments. Clean up around/in your desk Sharpen 2 or 3 pencils to get ready for tomorrow Pack up your backpack

Don’t forget your lunchbox

Sit quietly and read AR book until the bell rings. When bell rings- walk to your destination

*If school dismisses early due to the weather, a notification will be sent to your desired device (phone call, e-mail, text). The information will also be available on the school’s website. www.abcschool.com

nurse with the written consent of the legal guardian.

Your child will be excused, as needed, to take his/her medication.

*Please let me know ahead of time in case I need to prepare something different for children with allergies.

Happy Birthday!!!!

your child’s birthday, please notify me a week in advance to set up a time to celebrate your child’s birthday!

If your child’s birthday falls in the summer, we would love to celebrate his/her birthday as well. Contact me with the date you would like to celebrate and we will make it happen!

We would love to see you… …at lunch or in the classroom.

…as a volunteer. (Thank You!)On an occasional basis or as…“Room mother/father”

○ Responsibilities include: Party planning, tutoring, clerical help, PTO help, etc…)

○ If you interested in volunteering in your child’s classroom please sign up at my desk after this presentation. If you are viewing this online, please email me for more information!

Classroom Rules The students will work together with me to come

up with our classroom rules. This allows the students to have some ownership of the rules. We will write them on butcher paper and the students will sign around the rules, showing that they take responsibility for following them. The rules usually look something like this…

Be respectful of yourself and othersFollow directions the first time they are givenBe quiet in lines, hallways, and restroomsSet a good example for younger students

System of Reward

Class Rewards At the beginning of each 9 weeks the class will start with an

empty mason jar. As the class as a whole does something exemplary (the whole class turning in homework, everyone is quiet in the hall, ect…), I will place a marble in the jar. If the jar is filled by the end of the 9 weeks, we will have a class party. (Movie, pizza, special snack, ect…)

$ Individual Rewards $ The Dollar System- I will give out dollars with my face on the

bill. If a student does something to stand out in a positive way, he/she will receive a dollar. When the student gets $10 he/she will get to pick a prize out of the treasure chest!

System of Discipline Failure to comply with the classroom rules will be dealt

with in a systematic and organized manner based on the infraction.

First infraction – Warning- student writes his/her name on the board by my desk.

Second infraction – privileges will be withheld- Student places a check by their name. *

Third infraction-Student has a meeting with the teacher in the hall. Student will go with the teacher to the office and call his/her caregiver explaining his/her behavior for that day.

If behavior problems persist ,the student will be sent to the office to be dealt with under the policies of the school.

*Failure to do so in a calm and mature manner will result in further consequences.

Group Work

Students are to work quietly in their groups keeping their voices down.

Students are to stay on task Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action for the

group.

If your group finishes your task you may read your AR book/take an AR test.

Small Group

During part of our reading block the students will break up into their “book club.”

I will circulate around the room, meeting with each “book club.”

If I am meeting with a small group, other than in the reading block, the rest of the students are to work quietly. Students must not interrupt me during this

time unless it is an emergency.

Seat Work Expectations Students are to keep voices down and work only

with the students in their own pod. (Don’t get up and walk around the room.)

If students finish before time is up, they are to work on unfinished assignments or read an AR book. Finished assignments are to be left on their desk so that we can go over the assignment as a class.

Students are not to “play” during seat work time.

Student’s Work

Students will not always know what work will be graded. Therefore, all work should be completed to the best of one’s ability!

Quizzes and tests will always be graded and will be handed back to see the grade and the questions missed. Students will not be permitted to keep the tests but may keep the quizzes as study material.

Assignments For late or missing assignments, there will be a 50%

reduction per day the assignment is not turned in. Zeros will be given if the assignment is more than two

days late. Assignments will differ in the length of time the students

have to complete them, based on the teacher’s discretion. Assignments are to be turned in to the basket that says

“completed work” which is located on the bookshelf next to the teacher’s desk.

Assignments will be handed out at the end of every class period. If a student is not in class to receive their homework, it will be placed in the yellow folder with the students name written in the upper right hand corner.

Center Time Math Center- Fast Math

Students will have the opportunity the play Fast Math during down time, including: when the student finishes an assignment, indoor recess, or with permission from me. There is a limited number of computers so it is a first come first serve center. I always reserve the right to ask a student to finish his/her game to let another student practice.

Reading CenterThis center is simply a comfortable place for students to

read. We have bean bag chairs, pillows, and comfortable chairs for students to sit in. Each child will have an opportunity to read in this center (we will have a weekly rotation)! It’s comfy and FUN!!!

Classroom Materials These have to last us all year…so be nice to

our materials!!! Classroom materials, including: computer,

books, magazines, desk, chairs, etc…are to be treated like they are your own. Any damage (due to improper use by the student) to these items will be the responsibility of the student at the end of the year.

Items on my desk…are mine! I will be happy to share whatever you need, but you must ask permission first!

Bathroom Procedures The class will get bathroom breaks at: 10:00, 11:25, and 1:40. I will

excuse the students who need to use the restroom at these time. By now, the students should be mature enough to get business done and get back to classroom. Failure to do so will result in privileges being taken away.

If a student needs to go to the bathroom at a different time he/she needs to give me the signal (hand raised with fingers crossed) and I will excuse the student.*

Students will be allowed to keep a water bottle, with a lid, on their desks throughout the day.

*If your child has a medical condition that requires your child to visit the restroom on a more regular basis, please send a doctors note to school within the first week of school.
