Michael Judge from the Q Club Wicklow played Rodney Goggins from
Liam Mellows SC Wexford in the final of the 2018 Republic of Ireland
Billiards & Snooker Association Senior Championships.
Both players were looking for their second Irish Senior Title. In the
final Michael and Rodney both put on a fantastic display of snooker. In
frame 1 Rodney started off with a 100 clearance but Judge fought back
to win the next five frames to lead 5-1 at the interval.
After the Interval Goggins fought back to win the first two frames to
close the gap to 5-3 and then the Wexford man got right back into the
match when he won the next two frames to level the match at 5-5.
In frame 11 it looked like Rodney would go ahead but Judge made a
superb clearance to steal it on the black to stay 6-5 in front. Judge won
frame 12 and he was not to be denied his second National title 7-5.
The final was live streamed all around the world and the Referee in
charge was Shane Mason.
Semi Finals
In the semi-finals Michael Judge beat David Morris 6-3 and Rodney
Goggins beat John Torpey 6-4.
Championship High Break
The Championship high break went to Michael Judge with a fantastic
130 break.

This year saw one of the most exciting weekends in Irish Snooker & Billiards when
RIBSA held their Championship Finals Weekend featuring 15 National
Championships in the different age groups and genders in Snooker and Billiards.
The 2018 Championship Weekend was held in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club in
Carlow from Friday the 11th to Sunday the 13th of May, with free admission.
This year a father and son became National Champions on the same day when
James Bateman won the Intermediate Billiards title while Stephen Bateman won
the U-21 Title. One junior player Aaron Hill was the only player to win more than
one title when he won the Under 16 and Under 18 Titles.
AGM
RIBSA also held their annual AGM and all members had a chance to voice their
opinions and ideas, RIBSA encouraged as many members to attend the AGM.
A new committee were elected on the day and many ideas on how to improve
the game were discussed with the decision to move the Senior events next
season around the country.
Live Streaming
This year had professional live streaming on four tables with all the matches
having a referee. All the matches appear on the ribsa YouTube channel afterwards
for everyone to watch.

Senior Championships
This new Senior Champion is Michael Judge after his 7 frames to 5 victory over
Rodney Goggins. Michael also had the high break with a 130 break.
The Championship Last 16 was played on Friday 11th of May at 5pm and 7pm.
The Q-Finals were played on Saturday 12th at 10am. The Semi Final was played at
6pm and the Final was played on Sunday the 13th of May at 10am and 2.30pm.
Intermediate Championship
This year’s Intermediate Snooker Champion is Dylan Rees after he beat Alan O
Connor 4 frames to 1 to claim the title.
Ladies Championship
Two Ladies Championships were played and the senior Champion is 15 times
Champion Michelle Sherwin after she beat Claire Mill in a repeat of last year’s
final 4-1 and the new Intermediate Champion is Leah Brady after she won her
first title 3-2.
CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND
Masters Championship
The Final of the Masters Championship with John Farrell and Rodney Goggins was
postponed due to Rodney reaching the Senior Final, this was played on Sunday
20th May when Rodney won the title 5 frames to 1.
150 Up Billiard Championships
Aidan Murray retained his 150up senior final beating Wayne Doyle 4 games to 2
and John Kehoe won the Intermediate 150up final beating Joe Doheny 4 -1.
Long Format Billiards Championships
Wayne Doyle retained his Senior Billiards long up format title beating Aidan
Murray 727- 538 and in the Intermediate final James Bateman beat Anthony O
Flaherty in a very close match 500 - 481
The Under Age Snooker Finals
Under 12 Final - Leone Crowley beat Jack O Brien 3 frames to 1
Under 14 Final – Sean Walsh beat Leone Crowley 4 frames to 1
Under 16 Final - Aaron Hill beat Joe La Cumbre 4 frames to 1
Under 18 Final – Aaron Hill beat Sean Devenney 4 frames to 2
Under 19 Final - Ross Bulman beat Noel Landers 4 frames to 1

After the RIBSA finals weekend RIBSA can now
confirm the 2018 Senior, Masters Under 21 and
Under 16 players who have qualified for the
Home Internationals which will be held in the
Northern Snooker Centre in Leeds from the
10th – 17th of August.
The Senior and Masters Championships will play
from the 10th – 13th while the Under 21 and
Under 16 will play from the 13th -16th of
August.
The Irish senior team are the defending
Champions after their fantastic performance last
year in Leeds.

The Republic of Ireland Billiards & Snooker Association have
just announced details of the Irish junior players who will play
in the 2018 IBSF World Under 18 & Under 21 Snooker
Championships in China from the 3rd – 11th of July.

The Republic of Ireland Billiards & Snooker Association have
just announced details of the Irish Junior Teams for the 2018
Celtic Challenge against Wales on Saturday the 30th of June.
The Under 16 Team : Aaron Hill – Cork, Ryan McGuirk –
Meath, Jack Sheridan – Dublin, Joe La Cumbre – Laois, Leone
Crowley – Cork and Patrick Daly – Kerry.
The Under 14 Team: Sean Walsh – Cork, Noel Gleeson –

2018 RIBSA AGM
The 2018 Annual General Meeting of the Republic of Ireland Billiards & Snooker
Association was held on Saturday the 12th of May during the Irish Snooker
Championship finals weekend in the Ivy Rooms Snooker in Carlow.
Outgoing Chairman Jim Leacy, Secretary Tony Thorpe and Vice Chairman Ger Murray
was elected unopposed. Shane Mason, Neil Shanahan and John Kehoe were elected
to council and council will co-opted others as necessary onto the Committee.
A good discussion on the future of Irish Snooker and their plans over the next season
was discussed with the members and it was announced that the Senior Ranking Events
will travel around the country next season.

GILCHREST WINS IRISH OPEN
Peter Gilchrest from Singapore won the 2018 Irish Billiards Open in the
Ivy Rooms Snooker Club in Carlow from Sunday 19th May. In the final
Peter beat David Causier from England 811-375.
In a superb high quality final refereed by International Billiard Referee
John Kehoe and marker Keven Christie. Phil Davis won the plate event
beating Chris Coumbe in a close match.
GILCHREST WINS EUROPEAN OPEN
Peter Gilchrest from Singapore is the new 2018 European Billiards Open
Champion after he won the title in style in the Ivy Rooms Snooker Club in
Carlow on Wednesday the 23rd of May. In the past five days Peter has
won the Irish Open & European Open Billiards titles to cap off his great
trip to Ireland.
In the final Peter beat David Causier from England 1083 – 911 a match
that was streamed all over the world. In a superb high quality final
refereed by International Billiard Referee Martin O Reilly. Marker John
Kehoe and Recorder Brendan Devlin.
RIBSA TRAINING CAMPS
RIBSA will hold four training Camps with our National Coach
PJ Nolan to help prepare our players for all the up coming
International events.
A special Camp one day camp will be held for the Masters and
Men’s players competing in the European Championships in
Fairview SC in Dublin from 11am-4pm on Sat 2nd June.
On Sunday 3rd June and Saturday / Sunday the 9th & 10th of
June there will be three camps in the Ivy Rooms SC from
11am-4pm each day.

Celtic U-14 & U-16 Challenge in Wales
•World IBSF U-18 & U-21 Championships in China
All players are invited to attend one or all days at €5.00 per
day where PJ will hold sessions on Break-Building, Safety, Long
Potting, 6 reds, Tips on Cues and Technique checks.
