Living the Paschal Mystery
The eucharistic species (the bread and wine) is more than a thing to be reified; it is a eucharistic process, a self-giving of Christ himself so that he is bread broken and wine poured out in service and in love. IT is not enough merely to admire the eucharistic species, though there is certainly a history of eucharistic adoration in our church, and it has a place. To truly celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi, we must become an alter Christus (another Christ) in the midst of the world today, so that we are bread broken and wine poured out for the needs of humanity.
The challenge of the Eucharist is not about spending time in private prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, though that is certainly good. Rather, the Eucharist demands that, as followers of Christ, we, too, allow ourselves to be broken for others, to be poured out. In so doing, we will be emulating Christ and living the paschal mystery. Living Liturgy 2020

GROWING IN FAITH, HOPE, AND LOVE
1st Reading: Deuteronomy 8:2-3, 14-16
Responsorial: Psalm 147:12-15, 19-20
2nd Reading: 1 Corinthians 10:16-17
Gospel: John 6:51-58
A Stewardship Moment Weekend of June 13/14, 2020 Among the compelling Eucharistic themes proclaimed in today’s readings is the notion of “participation” as found in Saint Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, or in other words, putting the Eucharist into action. Good stewards are part of a Eucharistic family that loves, welcomes and serves. An important part of living as a steward comes about in the many ways we can participate in the life of the Church. No matter how much time we have to give, no matter what our skills or interests, no matter what our level of commitment, there is a way to participate as a good steward to enrich our lives and the lives of others to build up the Body of Christ. During this time when people are anxious and fearful, what are we doing to welcome others, and to love and be of service to them. International Catholic Stewardship Council May-bulletin
Family Resources
Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings: • As a family, find a chalice and some
wafers to represent the host. Practice the ritual and script for Holy Communion. Discuss the history of Eucharist and transubstantiation. Also discuss the tabernacle and the sacredness of Eucharist. Answer questions as they arise.
• Use some Legos® to build a human shape.
Talk about how each piece of Lego® might represent another person in the parish that is part of the Body of Christ. The Church with her members share talent, time and treasure to maintain the Body of Christ. How does that work? Discuss how various talents that parish members share can complete a whole, effective representation of Christ on earth.
• Discuss as a family what it must have
been like to have manna fall, and quail become available where there was no food to be found, evidence of God’s provision. Consider how God has helped your family and whether it was remembered or forgotten. Speculate as to why the Israelites forgot so soon and began to doubt God’s help.
Our Sunday Visitor Lifelong Catechesis
Journal
• How do you approach Holy Communion? Are you intentionally aware of what’s going on during the Mass at this time, or are you spacing out or going through the motions?
• Do you remember your First Communion? Why did you have a strong desire to receive our Lord sacramentally?
• What does it mean to you to know that Christ abides in you?
• Do you view your relationship with Christ as something vital to your survival?
Challenge for the Week
If you’re struggling to crave the Eucharist, fast for two hours before you go to Mass the next time. You definitely don’t have to do this every Sunday, and people who don’t do this aren’t spiritual wimps, but maybe being intentional about your fasting will help you reflect on the importance of Who you’re receiving.
