Mission Statement
We, the parishioners of St. Anthony-Kalihi bonded in faith and love of God, empowered by the Holy Spirit, give faithful witness to the love of
Jesus Christ in proclaiming the good news of salvation. We commit to the evangelization of the parish through spiritual renewal and formation. We promote justice, peace and respect for human life by caring and serving the poor, the sick and the needy. We firmly resolve to
further the mission for the glory and reign of God on earth.
Family Resources
Choose one of the following activities as a way to further reflect on the Sunday readings: • In today’s Gospel the Canaanite woman demanded that
Jesus heal her daughter. Gather for family prayer and invite each person to offer a prayer of petition, silently or aloud, for any member of the family.
• Spend time as a family writing letters to Jesus. The letter may be as simple as completing the following: Dear Jesus, the one thing that I most want you to do for me is... Let the young children in the family dictate their letters to an older family member. Place the letters in a prayer space and talk about the need to persevere in prayer and never lose hope.
• The Canaanite woman confronted the evils of discrimination in today’s Gospel. As a family, explore the topic of discrimination. Watch the evening news together. After the news, discuss the stories of discrimination in the newscast and what can be done about these situations. Talk about how faith plays a role in dealing with the evils of discrimination.
• Maybe your family is a victim of discrimination. Talk to your children about their feelings and how they can cope with this discrimination. Remind your children that God loves them.
Our Sunday Visitor Lifelong Catechesis
A Stewardship Moment Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
In today’s first reading, the Lord speaks through the prophet Isaiah during a time of political upheaval and moral decline. The prophet had warned of God’s judgment against people for the feelings of self-importance they found in their possessions, and condemned them for various forms of economic injustice such as exploiting the poor and immigrants. Good stewards know that Isaiah’s message is as compelling today as it was in the time of the kingdom of Judah: Do the right thing. Offer justice and compassion toward others. Be honest in all your dealings. And remember to observe the day of the Lord. International Catholic Stewardship Council August e-bulletin
