125th Anniversary ~ Sunday, August 25, 2019
1990-1994~The Sunday School continued to thrive in the nineties. When it was
discovered that several of the children did not have a Bible, The Christian Education
committee decided to present Bibles to all children in second grade and above.
Family Circle purchased the Bibles and the first group were given out in 1991.
Bibles have been given each year since that time. The Adult Forums continued to
meet on Sunday mornings in conjunction with Sunday School. Vacation Bible
School was held at the church each August. Over 50 children from both Emanuel
and the community at large attended each year. The many committees of Emanuel
continued to meet throughout this time. Membership and attendance continued to
rise in the nineties. A the end of 1991, confirmed membership totaled 103, with
average attendance at 63. By the end of 1993, confirmed membership was at 108,
with average attendance of 72.

Birthday Blessings Anniversary Blessings
Thank you to Mary Lou Behrens for sponsoring the August
worship bulletins “in memory of Harvey & Frances Johnson,
and Oscar & Ingrid Johnson.”
Friends of the Risen Christ,
Grace and peace to you. Well another deadline has sneaked up on me.
I can hardly believe that July has come to a close. Summer is moving along
quickly, providing the hot temperatures that are needed to keep our fruits
and vegetables growing. Tourists are out in full force taking advantage of
this season as a time for relaxation, restoration and a chance to take in the
beauty nature that we are so blessed to live in.
This is a perfect time of year for us to witness to our faith. When or if
we happen across a weary traveler it could become a chance for us to help
someone in need. That may be as simple as giving directions or a refreshing
drink, pointing them toward a local site worth seeing, or inviting them to
worship and fellowship. Perhaps finding or providing roadside assistance for
someone with mechanical troubles is where we may find our talents put to
use, or just by being pleasant as you meet others at tone of the many
events that take place this time of year.
Speaking of events, let us not forget all that is happening this August
as we celebrate 125 years of living in God’s amazing grace here at Emanuel.
A wonderful banquet is waiting for us with friends old and new coming
together to celebrate this life. New and exciting things are being explored in
our worship life as we look toward a bright future together with Christ.
Our building has been outfitted with a wonderful, beautiful new
roof. The work was done quickly as the contractor was in and out in no time
at all. Our volunteers have tended to the grounds and building making
everything look as good as new. Thanks to all who work so hard at keeping
this little church on the hill open that all are welcomed to come and revel in
the amazing grace of God.
Blessings and peace to all,
Michael

our 125th Anniversary !
New Roof Raffle
A beautiful handmade quilt donated by Connie Ritter
and a handmade Michigan stone lamp donated by Carol
Mattson are the prizes for our raffle this summer for the
new roof. Tickets are $1 each. You
do not need to be present to win at
the drawing, to be held at our 125th
Anniversary Program on Saturday, August 24. We
need help selling tickets! Please see Roger Kimball after
Sunday worship for tickets to buy or sell. Thank you for
helping this fundraiser for our new roof a success!

Sunday School will be starting September 15 with our
annual Rally Day! We are looking for adults to help
share the Word of Christ with children. Please
contact Betsy Koski if you are interested and thank you
for helping with this important ministry at Emanuel.
Outreach Update
Our next monthly Outreach Meeting is Monday, August 26
at 10 a.m.
Thanks again to all that helped with the Rummage & Plant
sale in June. A total of $840 was made with half going to-
wards the new roof. We are lining up our raffle items for
our Annual Bazaar and Quilt Sale coming Saturday, November 23. Along
with a homemade quilt and fresh wreath, we are looking for handcrafted
items with a value of at least $25. If you, or if you know of someone that
makes a special handmade item, please ask them if they would consider
donating to our raffle. If you have any questions or ideas to share, please
talk with anyone on the Outreach Committee. With the many sales of
school supplies beginning, the list of the supplies we collect for Lutheran
World Relief school bags is in the fellowship hall. We purchase the speci-
fied bags that are used with the supplies. Shipping of the school bags is
with the Lutheran World Relief Quilts usually in early October. Thank you
for helping with this important annual outreach ministry! “God’s Work,
Our Hands” community service day is coming in September, if you have
any ideas for projects, please let us know.
Enjoy your summer days,
Sarah

They are available each Sunday or by con-tacting Betsy or Jolene.

August 23-25 Celebration:
In addition to the Saturday evening banquet, plan now to attend the following events:
Friday, August 23 - 4:00-7:00 p.m. – Visit with old and new friends, including Pastor Tamra Harder (and Everett) and Pastor Chad Christensen who will be returning for the event.
Friday, August 23 – 7:00 p.m. – Enjoy the “Gospel Guys” in concert at Emanuel – refreshments following. The community is welcome!! Saturday, August 24 – 1:00 p.m. – Guided Cemetery Walk through both Emanuel and Haglund cemeteries.
Saturday, August 24 – 5:30 p.m. The Celebration Banquet and
Program will be held, with Bishop Katherine Finegan bringing greetings, the story of Emanuel in pictures (and a few words), and a great meal. We give thanks to God for the many blessings we have experienced as a congregation through the past 125 years!
Sunday, August 25 – 11:00 a.m. – Worship with special music
and liturgy, followed by refreshments.
Even as we remember the past – people,
ministries, events – please know that our
present congregation is strongly
encouraged to take part in all these events.
YOU are the Emanuel of the present and
future, and while we celebrate the past and
build on its foundation, your presence is a
gift beyond measure.
Share the joy of celebrating God’s faithfulness to this little brick church on the hill for 125 years!

July 22, 2019 Dear Members and Friends of Emanuel: A wonderful opportunity has come our way to help pay down the principal on our roof loan. A local couple has generously offered to donate $500.00 for every $500.00 that is donated or raised by Emanuel. Your gifts of $5, $10, $25, $50 or more will be added up until we reach $500.00, at which time we will receive an additional $500.00 from the match. All gifts will be applied directly to the principal of the loan. The time frame of this match is from the date of this letter until Sunday, December 15, 2019. Your gifts toward this match could help us pay up to $10,000 on our loan principal by the end of the year! Please be aware that we will still need to raise the $466.00 each month to meet our regular loan payment. Gifts to both the regular payment and the match are deeply appreciated! All gifts to the roof fund should be clearly marked “Match” or “Regular Payment”. This will help us distinguish how the funds should be distributed. Thanks be to God for the beautiful new roof that we now have on our church building! And thank you in advance for prayerfully considering how you may be able to help with its funding. Sincerely, The Congregation Council
