Have the ability to reproduce into a number of specialized cells. Slide 3 The Moral Issue Since the human life cycle begins at conception, the destruction of embryos is the destruction of life. The human embryo,even in the first week of development before implantation, is a human being - a living, developing individual of the human species(Doerflinger) Slide 4 Quite Similar to abortion Slide 5 More Issues Embryonic stem cell research is a costly. Not an ethical form of research. Takes funding away from more ethical forms of research. Scope of treatment has not been fully researched. Funding on a large scale is not possible. Slide 6 Think About What happens to the feelings of women who do not have the ability to produce? Frozen embryos are treated more like property. Possibility of rejection is greater in embryonic stem cells. If a breakthrough is discovered will the research stop there? Slide 7 Alternatives Stem Cells can be obtained by umbilical cord stem cells,amniotic fluid, and adult stem cells. Adult stem cells are better at treating disease effected tissue than embryonic.
