Introduction The core of Micro strategy is seeking applications with a high
consequence of failure. When the priority is to achieve the lowest price
in the world, we may not be the right source. However, when failure
is literally not an option, we find a Micro customer. A prime example is
found in the emergency oxygen system deployed to the new Boeing 787
Dreamliner. Micro supplies one breath sensor for every passenger.

Although most aircraft systems
release emergency oxygen when the
cabin pressure drops or when the
mask is pulled towards the user, the
client wanted a literal breath sensor.
With a breath sensor, oxygen would
not flow until the passenger put on
the mask and began to inhale.
One engineer from our client was
from the medical device industry
and was familiar with our compact,
sensitive 500 series vacuum switch.
The 500 series switch is used in
breathing applications such as
oxygen concentrators and intensive
care monitors.
Micro worked to develop an
effective combination of set point
sensitivity, efficient mounting and
robust operation and final images
of the Micro 500 series sensor can

The Boeing 787 requires up
to 70,000 units per year with
outstanding delivered quality and
performance. The direct Micro
customer is Plexus Manufacturing
in Malaysia, providing contract
assembly for B/E Aerospace, now a
unit of Rockwell Collins.
