Mike’s Missive Greetings everyone from Pastor Mike,

As we are entering into this month of March, let us be encouraged. Things are looking better as far as the Covid-19 virus with the vaccinations going out and the number of infections going down BUT let us still stay vigilant in protecting ourselves and others. Hopefully we can gradually start getting back to normal in our Church services. We would like to thank those that have been

coming out to our limited services but completely understand those that have chosen not to return just

yet.

Seems like it has been a long, cold, old winter but spring will soon be here on March 20th. There is just something special about spring as there is new life everywhere; the trees and flowers begin to blossom and the birds begin to sing in a special way that seems like no other time of year. It is the time of year when everything that was laying dormant has sprang to life. And also, we are looking forward to Easter on April 4th and the weeks leading up to it, which is the season of Lent that began on Ash Wednesday, Feb 17th, and will end on Wednesday, March 31st. Lent is the period preceding Easter that in the Christian Church is devoted to fasting, abstinence, and penitence in commemoration

of Christ’s fasting in the wilderness.

So in moving toward Easter let us prepare ourselves

by enjoying this wonderful time of year and looking forward to bigger and better things by trusting in the Lord and celebrating what this time of year really means. We do serve a Savior that will rise again! PRAISE THE

LORD!

Until next month, keep looking up and the best is yet to

come !!!!!!!

Pastor Mike

Romans 8 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Luke 9 23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and fol-low me. 24 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.

Matthew 6 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth cor-rupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

ALTAR FLOWERS: Mar. 7 in honor of Landon Cunningham’s birthday from Ray & Tina Howe Mar. 14 Mar. 21 Mar. 28 Apr. 4 in honor of Jared Cunningham’s birthday from Ray & Tina Howe and Landon Cunningham Apr. 11 Apr. 18 Apr. 25 May 2 May 9 in honor of Ray Howe’s birthday from Tina Howe and Landon Cunningham May 16 May 23 May 30 June 6 in honor of Julie Cunningham’s birthday from Ray & Tina Howe and Landon Cunningham June 13 June 20 June 27 (If a date is blank, please contact Tina Howe if you would like to make a flower dedication for that week.)

{During this time of pandemic, the job of greeter is a little different. If you feel comfortable volun-teering, we’d love to have you. We understand if you do not. Greeters currently must wear a mask and stand on the opposite side of the door from the hand sanitizer. Greeting should consist of saying hello or something welcoming and reminding people of the hand sanitizer and disposable masks available and also reminding people to pick up bulletins (and newsletters or other items if available). The congregation is encouraged (but not required) to use the sanitizer and required to wear a mask due to government orders. We strongly discourage handshaking and hugs at this time.

GREETERS Mar. 7 Mar. 14 Mar. 21 Mar. 28 (If a date is blank, please consider volunteering for that date.)

Saint Patrick's "Breastplate" Prayer

I bind unto myself today The strong Name of the Trinity,

By invocation of the same, The Three in One and One in Three.

I bind this day to me for ever. By power of faith, Christ's incarnation;

His baptism in the Jordan river; His death on Cross for my salvation; His bursting from the spicèd tomb;

His riding up the heavenly way; His coming at the day of doom;*

I bind unto myself today.

I bind unto myself the power Of the great love of the cherubim;

The sweet 'well done' in judgment hour, The service of the seraphim,

Confessors' faith, Apostles' word, The Patriarchs' prayers, the Prophets'

scrolls, All good deeds done unto the Lord,

And purity of virgin souls.

I bind unto myself today The virtues of the starlit heaven, The glorious sun's life-giving ray,

The whiteness of the moon at even, The flashing of the lightning free,

The whirling wind's tempestuous shocks, The stable earth, the deep salt sea,

Around the old eternal rocks.

I bind unto myself today The power of God to hold and lead, His eye to watch, His might to stay,

His ear to hearken to my need. The wisdom of my God to teach,

His hand to guide, His shield to ward, The word of God to give me speech, His heavenly host to be my guard.

Against the demon snares of sin, The vice that gives temptation force,

The natural lusts that war within, The hostile men that mar my course;

Or few or many, far or nigh, In every place and in all hours,

Against their fierce hostility, I bind to me these holy powers.

Against all Satan's spells and wiles, Against false words of heresy,

Against the knowledge that defiles, Against the heart's idolatry,

Against the wizard's evil craft, Against the death wound and the burning, The choking wave and the poisoned shaft,

Protect me, Christ, till Thy returning.

Christ be with me, Christ within me, Christ behind me, Christ before me, Christ beside me, Christ to win me, Christ to comfort and restore me.

Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,

Christ in hearts of all that love me, Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

I bind unto myself the Name, The strong Name of the Trinity;

By invocation of the same. The Three in One, and One in Three,

Of Whom all nature hath creation, Eternal Father, Spirit, Word:

Praise to the Lord of my salvation, Salvation is of Christ the Lord.

In the event of snow or other weather issues, please check either your email or the EUMC Facebook page for closing

information. If Scioto County is under a Level 2 or Level 3 Snow Emergency, EUMC will definitely be closed.

Pastor Mike Musser would like everyone to read the Doctrines and Discipline for a new Methodist Church. You may find it here: https://www.lucasvilleeumc.com/newsletter.html If you just click the link, above, scroll down to the file named “umc_doctrines___discipline-traditional_draft_copy.pdf”

then click on “Download File”, it should open for you to read on the computer. If you want to print it, you may need to right click on the document. (I didn’t on my computer but Desra Wortman is our webpage designer and she said it may be necessary.) Anyone without computer access please contact Lisa Shephard and a copy will be printed for you. If you have asked for a printed copy and haven’t gotten one yet, please remind me.

Due to several Leadership Team members being unable to attend, the Leadership Team did not meet in November or January. Leadership Team meetings are typically not held in December, so the next meeting should have been held in February. Unfor-tunately, the weather made it unsafe for the Team to meet in February. The minutes of the October meeting will be read and approved at the March meeting and will be available for the April newsletter.
