X and Y theory
In the case study we got the person concerned (Rohit) is quite unhappy with his manager. The
manager Ashish is a classic example of an authoritarian management style . opularly !nown as
the " style of management # the following examples can $e inferred from this case %
& Ashish doesnt ha'e any inclination nor time to groom his employees.
& e $lames his team for missing deadlines.
& e is not associated with the team.
& e is not approacha$le.
The consequences of this type of management are %
& The employees start to disli!e their wor!.
& They start considering wor! as punishment.
& The a'erage employee starts to a'oid responsi$ility and $ecomes unam$itious.
Thus Ashish has to induce high le'el of commitment and creati'ity in his method of management to
gain the confidence of his employees and to $oost morale of his su$ ordinates.

Hygiene theory
According to hygiene# the factors leading to *o$ satisfaction are +separate and distinct from those
that lead to *o$ dissatisfaction.+ Therefore# if you set a$out eliminating dissatisfying *o$ factors# you
may create peace $ut not necessarily enhance performance. This placates your wor!force instead
of actually moti'ating them to impro'e performance.
The characteristics associated with *o$ dissatisfaction are called hygiene factors. ,hen these ha'e
$een adequately addressed# people will not $e dissatisfied nor will they $e satisfied. If you want to
moti'ate your team# you then ha'e to focus on satisfaction factors li!e achie'ement#

The work condition is not motivating enough as the manager is not
discussing the decisions and most of the times his decision is the nal
call.
The relationship between Ashish and his sub ordinates is very distant
and overy ocial which makes working conditions adverse.
Maslows Theory
The basis of Maslow's motivation theory is that human beings aremotivated by unsatised needs, and that certain lower factors
need to be satised before higher needs can be satised.
eneral types of needs are physiological, survival, safety, love,
and esteem.

b. *steem# +hen %ohit (oined his new pro(ect, there were few
glitches with the new software, so %ohit thought of discussing
the solution with his boss and felt good thinking about all the
