Workshop on cake decoration using food-related liquid spray guns

Intranet for the Blue Project

Ms. Nishimura opened a cake shop specializing in custom-made cakes, Magic Cake Deco., in Shinjuku, Tokyo, in 2008, introducing authentic American cake decorations for the rst time in Japan. She works as the main cake designer for the shop. She founded the Japan Cake Decoration Association in July 2013 to increase the recognition of cake decorations both at home and abroad, including promoting cake decorations and improving decoration techniques and knowledge.

Ms. Midori Nishimura (president of the Japan Cake Decoration Association)

●Ms. Ikuko Hirai, Liquid Application Equipment Team

We are working with Ms. Nishimura for demonstrations at trade shows, workshops and other events in order to promote food-re-lated liquid spray guns in the market as equip-ment for gorgeous-looking cakes and sweets.

An intranet for the Blue Project is now available. It offers a wide variety of contents created to share information about various people's jobs and ideas across organizational and geographical boundaries, such as a blog to let you know about the project members (updated once a week) and a talk show featuring ANEST IWATA employees. Anyone is welcome to access the intranet!

The purpose of the project is to make ANEST IWATA's corporate philosophy better known to its employees.

I. From Chicago to PortlandFor the better part of 24 years I have worked with ANEST IWATA. I’ve also come to know many people around the world in those years, many of whom I call friends. Of course, most of the people that know me remember at least two distinct facts: I’m originally from Chicago and I love to play ice hockey. In 1999 I left behind a congested and fast-paced Chicagoland metropolis and moved to Portland, Oregon to take a full-time position with AI-MD. Portland is a small city nestled in one of the most beautiful valley’s in America, the Willamette River Valley. Truly a natural oasis with bounties of rivers, forests, mountains and an all-around abundance of natural beauty and is about 70 miles (113 km) from the Pacific Ocean to the west, and another 70 miles (113 km) from the Cascades mountain range to the east. In Chicago man-made concrete and steel mountains ( i ts’ skyscrapers) create the famous Chicago Skyline. In Portland, a natural mountain, Mt. Hood sets the backdrop to our beautiful city. Mt. Hood’s elevation is 11,249 ft. (3,249m) and on a clear day is visible from nearly every part of Portland! As part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, the Cascades are the home of some of the most famous mountain peaks in the USA which included along with Mt. Hood are: Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Rainer, Mt. Adams, the famous active volcano Mt. St. Helens (which last erupted May 18, 1980). A few years ago, I took an interest in hiking to explore natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. There is an abundance of hiking trails in the greater Pacific Northwest including some lesser known mountains to the west called the Coastal Range and the famous Columbia River Gorge. For me, however, the real attraction is hiking around the Cascade mountains, specifically the volcano Mt. St. Helens!

II. Hiking – something new Ice hockey is a tough sport; fast paced skating, short and quick stopping and starting, intense bursts of speed and occasional collisions. It takes a lot of agility, stamina, strength and of course, hockey skills to play well. It’s a physically exhausting sport and yet very rewarding for maintaining good fitness. Being in good shape myself, hiking on trails didn’t sound like it would be too difficult to me. I would soon learn that hiking up, down and across varied terrain, wearing heavy hiking boots and hiking in both pleasant and at times bad weather, was physically more difficult than I expected. The one thing I was not expecting was the mental and, at times, emotional strain it would have on me and the lessons I learned in those moments.

III. Mt. St. Helens – pressing through limitsIn 2016, a group of friends and I decided we were going to hike to the summit of Mt. St. Helens in Washington State, 8,363 ft., (2,549m). It is about a 10-mile (16km) round-trip hike in total and with an elevation

gain of about 5000 ft., (1,524 m) One thing that most people do not know about me is that I’m afraid of heights, especially out in open air. Hiking up the face of a mountain sounded like a great idea until I realized that I’d have to turn around and look down at some point. I carried on and decided to face my fears head on. The climb started easy enough in the beginning with the first 2 miles meandering through a forest on gentle up-hill grade. When we exited out of the forest and onto the mountain itself, our path ahead was surrounded by densely thick fog. For most of us it was our first time on St. Helens and we didn’t know any alternative routes up the mountain, so we chose to follow the timber guide posts that are embedded in the spine of the mountain side. These would act as our way points to let us know we were on the right path which would help us avoid falling off unseen cliffs or into dangerous icy crevasses. But it also limited our path to hiking up the mountain spine which is made of piles of volcanic boulders. As we made our way up the spine I remember the difficulty we faced as we were no longer hiking, but rather rock climbing and bouldering with bare hands and knees (luckily, I had climbing gloves). This is when I first noticed the stress of the endeavor and how every movement upward had to be focused and calculated. I occasionally glanced over to make sure I could see the guide posts for reassurance to know that I was moving in the right direction. One of my friends who is an experienced climber would randomly yell directions like, “move to the left”, or “use your poles here”, and “be careful this rock is slippery”. We regularly made changes in direction and adapted to the conditions directly in front of us. Working together we shouted out words of encouragement to each other to keep our motivation high. We moved at a carefully slow pace on the mountain’s spine for roughly 2 ½ miles (4 km). I remember telling myself along the way that I wasn’t prepared for this and even thought at one point that perhaps I should turn back!Eventually the fog cleared and made way for bright sunshine. We could now see spectacular surroundings and discovered that there were indeed easier paths for us to take; unfortunately, those were now well behind us. When we finally crested the top of the spine we stopped for lunch. We could see from our perch that we were very close to our goal to reach the summit. I remember reflecting that for me personally, getting to this point was very difficult. The final push would be the hardest - as we would have to make a very steep climb to the summit through a scree field. Scree is basically volcanic dirt, or dust and is similar in properties to sand. For every two steps forward, expect to slide one step back. I focused on the final push of 200 yds (183 m); “pole, step, pole, step – slide”, repeat… again and again. With my friends cheering me on, I finally reached the summit. I remember a range of mixed emotions from exhaustion, joy and a taste of victory. Then as I looked out at the magnificent vistas all around me my fear of heights kicked in and I got vertigo and needed to sit down. As I rested I could see the lava dome in the crater of Mt. St. Helens which continues to grow up to 6.5 cubic feet (0.18 cu. m) every day. The reminder that this is an active volcano and that it will eventually

erupt again. My friends remarked at how fast and purposefully I had made it up the scree field. I thanked them as they were the ones who kept me going! It had taken us 7 grueling hours to achieve our mission. It wasn’t until later that I realized the mission didn’t really end when we reached the summit, because we still had a long and difficult trek to get down the mountain from here. IV. Missions are mountains Today, we live and work in a world where markets are evolving at an ever-accelerating pace. This is putting a great deal of pressure on companies and us, its’ people, who are forced to adapt to conditions that are now changing on a moment-by-moment basis. Much like the fog on the mountain, all the fog and noise created by 24hr news, social networks and invasive personal technology can make it difficult to find good stable footing and see clearly up the trail ahead.I’m in a unique position; as a leader of three ANEST IWATA group companies I participate in several distinct markets: consumer, commercial, and industrial. I’m watching traditional segmented boundary lines beginning to blur. Traditional marketing & sales mindset of business-to-consumer (B2C) like at AI-MD, and business-to-business (B2B) as at AI-US and AI-MX, are becoming co-mingled and a new paradigm is emerging; person-to-person (P2P). I have a front-row seat with ANEST IWATA Corporate leadership as we purposefully set out to becoming a truly global company in a hyper-fast and rapidly changing interconnected global economy.Even if today we could “check all the boxes” on our list that define us as being a truly global company, later this evening we’d have to erase and rewrite items on this list as major changes in our world continue to transform our customers’ needs. And we’re often reminded how the news of change traveled instantaneously. This is an uncomfortable place to be, knowing that we can never arrive or settle, nor completely achieve the final goal.In this era ultimately, we may never reach the “final” destination of becoming a truly global company as the nature of our markets are constantly changing. I envision this goal to be just one mountain

Lessons of Courage, Cooperation & Commitment Climbing Mountains

summit, in a series of mountains on a never-ending journey. It is no-longer just about the outcome since each outcome is only a temporary state and the next summit awaits. Instead it’s about enjoying this journey and making the most of our opportunities along the way, taking pride in our accomplishments and facing our challenges. Steadfast leadership through our mission, purpose and core values act as our guiding beacon on mountain summits. Our strategies, personal goals, budgets, earnings reports, and new products; these are all guide posts – achievements helping us to continue forward and constantly reminding us of the path we are on. Along our journey, we should be courageous in taking difficult paths until we can find easier ones. Most importantly it’s about us, the people and the keepers of the company; our cooperation and collaboration are the essence of our teams: working together, coaching each other and holding ourselves accountable, picking each other up when we want to quit, and finding strength in our purpose. Determination and belief in one another is what will carry us up and down our mountains. Enjoy the climb!

Use this road when you go to Hakone. You are sure to love the marvelous scenery you will see!

ROAD MAP

ANEST IWATA Turnpike Hakone has a difference of elevation of about 1,000 meters between Odawara Tollgate and Hakone Taikanzan, which makes it an attractive sightseeing route where you can enjoy the changes of the seasons while you drive. Built alongside the "Kanpakudo," which is said to be the road that Hideyoshi Toyotomi walked as he led his army to attack Odawara, the turnpike has historic spots scattered along and around it.

We have gained the naming right to a toll highway in Hakone, Kanagawa Pre-fecture, which has been called by the new name of ANEST IWATA Turnpike Hakone since March 1, 2018.The turnpike, famous for its frequent use for test rides of new cars and other events, is a 15.782-kilometer sightseeing toll road that runs from Odawara City of Kanagawa Prefecture through Hakone Town of Ashigarashimo-gun County to Yugawara Town in the same county. One of its features is that the road offers sweeping views of forests and mountains stretching over long distances as it runs along the ridge instead of in a valley between mountains. The turn-pike boasts an amazing landscape that changes from season to season. We strongly suggest you use this road when you go to Hakone. You are sure to love the marvelous scenery you will see!We are planning to hold events on a regular basis throughout the year. We may ask you to help us with these events and would appreciate your cooperation.

The lounge is located at an altitude of 1,011 meters in one of the most beautiful spots in Hakone, which offers a panoramic view of Mt. Fuji and Lake Ashinoko and is among Japan's 100 selected places of scenic beauty. This place is also famous as a spot where you can see a beautiful sunrise over Sagami Bay on New Year's Day.

We took part in the Cherry Blossom Tunnel Festival held on Sunday, April 8. At the festival, we gave away novelty goods and invited visitors to experience airbrush body art painting. Thanks to the fine weather and the many local mascots that gathered for the occasion, the festival attracted a lot of tourists.

Introduction to Group Companies

Company Profile

Shanghai Screw Compressor Co., Ltd. joined the ANEST IWATA Group in January 2018. Let us introduce our company to you. Founded in 1998, Shanghai Screw Compressor develops, manufactures and sells mainly screw compressors. The foreign countries where we market our products include Spain, Poland, the U.S.A and Australia. We produce 5000 units or so annually. In China, there are growing public concerns about environmental issues, food, healthcare, etc. We are going to stay focused on energy-saving and oil-free air compressors in order to contribute to society. We expect that joining the ANEST IWATA Group will allow us to experience Japan's manufacturing and achieve further growth. We hope that we can grow together with you all.

Shanghai Screw Compressor Co., Ltd.

ANEST IWATAEurope GmbH

ANEST IWATA Europe GmbH (AI-EU) was established in Bad Wimpfen near Stuttgart in the southern part of Germany in October 2017 as the center of the air energy business in Europe.A number of major manufacturers, such as Porsche, Benz and Bosh, have headquarters and plants in this region. Also, located almost in the center of Europe and blessed with very good access to transportation, it has been one of the most prosperous industrial hubs in Germany since long ago.Currently, AI-EU has about 20 employees, who tirelessly work to promote our world-class air compressors and vacuum pumps in markets not only in and around the EU region but also in a wider area including the Middle East and Turkey. Crowded with a host of world-famous manufacturers of air compressors and vacuum pumps, the European markets are competitive. Since the oil-free technology, which is the core of our technological competence, is less known in Europe than in other regions, we believe that there is enough room for our oil-free technology to contribute to customers and society.AI-EU keeps taking on new challenges. So keep your eyes on it!

Message to Everyone from Akita Report from Akita Factory

Message to Everyone from Fukushima Report from Fukushima Factory

The General Manufacturing Meeng is a lecture meeng, hosted by the Japan Management Associaon, where presentaons are given by leading companies on manufacturing strategies covering a range of topics from development, design and producon technology to producon, purchasing, procurement, quality and human resource development. This year marks the 55th anniversary of the meeng, which has been held once a year. Every me, over 3,000 people engaged in manufacturing gather for the meeng from across the country. At this year's meeng, Mr. Hozumi, the leader of the Producon Engineering Team of Fukushima Factory, gave a lecture as the factory was highly praised for its producon reform. The lecture drew a large audience, and we got posive feedback saying, "I am impressed" and "We really want to emulate your effort."

Hiroyuki Hozumi, the leader of the Production Engineering Team of Fukushima Factory

Lecture at the 2018 General Manufacturing Meeting(held at Tokyo Conference Center Shinagawa from February 21 to 23, 2018)

On January 10, 2018 (Wednesday), Akita Factory was visited by 25 people (14 students of the elementary and junior high schools in Daisen City, where the factory is located, and 11 parents). The visit was a special winter event organized as part of the Daisen Furusato Doctor Development Project launched in fiscal 2016 by the Daisen City Board of Educaon. The project is aimed at fostering a spirit to love the hometown among children by having them interact with the local community through parcipaon in local events and visits to local companies and facilies with the goal of developing human resources who will shoulder responsibility for the future of the region. This was the second me that the event was held at Akita Factory. We had much more applicants than the limit both last me and this me.

Daisen Furusato Doctor Development ProjectCompany Visit Day

The F100 Execuon Commiee is working on the ideal vision that Fukushima Factory should achieve when ANEST IWATA marks its 100th anniversary, with the following three goals in mind:1. Increase the visibility of ANEST IWATA.2. Make the factory an exciting place for visitors.3. Get employees more motivated and provide a good work environment. As pointed out by some employees, we have had this name recognion problem, with ANEST IWATA suffering a low profile in Yabuki Town. To increase the visibility of the company, we have decided to be more acve in inving local residents to visit our factory. At the same me, we make the factory an excing place to impress visitors. This will result in increased visibility and, as the factory is invigorated, employees will become more movated. We are striving to implement this cycle. In this issue of the newsleer, we highlight some of the new acvies we have launched in 2018. One is to promote the use of Yabuki Rokkaku Cafeteria (F6 Lounge) by employees. This cafeteria was opened in 2017. While the cafeteria is also available to local residents, we hope that employees use it for recreaonal purposes more frequently. The soccer World Cup will be held this year, so we will open the cafeteria to employees as a sports bar and have fun together. Next, we are considering creang a welded object - the second of its kind - as a special exhibit for this year. Factory Manager Fukase has been constantly giving us a pep talk, saying: "It's boring to see a similar thing. Be creave and innovate!" The other iniaves that we plan to carry out include achieving a 100% share of the air compressor market in Yabuki Town, giving experimental vacuum shows at kindergartens and engaging in volunteer acvies. This year, the members of the commiee have been changed. Under the moo of the ever-evolving Fukushima Factory, we are going to promote various acvies to move forward toward the 100th anniversary and beyond.

Be Creative and Innovate As We Approach the 100th Anniversary of the Company's Foundation!

2019

When the seasons change, the temperature tends to change greatly in the course of a day. In addition, changes in the day length and atmospheric pressure may affect the autonomic nervous system, hormone metabolism and immune system.

Effects on the body① Unlike motor nerves and sensory nerves, we are unaware of autonomic nerves. But they play a vital role behind the

scene in regulating our physical condition. There are two types of autonomic nervous system: sympathetic and parasympathetic. The former is necessary when we do things or become nervous, and the latter helps put the brain and body to rest when we sleep or take a break. These nervous systems keep our bodies in balance while causing opposite effects on the human body. An imbalance between these two nervous systems may result in symptoms developing even though we are unaware of their existence in daily life, leading to various health problems.

② As the day lengthens and the weather becomes warmer, we tend to stay up longer and sleep less, often suffering from lack of sleep. During sleep, the body undergoes a number of crucial processes such as fatigue recovery, damage repair and memory creation. So we need good sleep (in terms of both duration and depth).

③ In spring, we are also prone to mental stress. As we get transferred to a different post or move to a different place, your job and human relationship change. These changes lead to increased stress, which disturbs the balance of the autonomic nervous system and possibly affects you mentally.

④ Immune system: It is said that many people catch a cold when the seasons change. Lack of sleep and a drop in body temperature weaken the immune system, making us more vulnerable to cold.

Things you should know to overcome the seasonal change

① Steady rhythm of daily life: Wake up, go to sleep and eat meals on a regular schedule to make sure that you maintain a steady rhythm of daily life.

② Well-balanced diet: Try not to skip breakfast, which raises the blood sugar level and body temperature, thus helping the sympathetic nervous system to function. Also try to eat as many vegetables as possible since they are rich in vitamins and minerals.

③ Good sleep: Avoid staying up too late. Make it a practice to go to sleep around 11 o'clock at night. Do not go to bed too early, because that often makes you prone to awake during the nighttime. A shallow sleep may be related to when you drink alcohol or take a bath before going to sleep. Avoid drinking alcohol or taking an excessively hot or long bath right before you go to bed.

④ Moderate exercise: Stretching or walking improves your blood circulation and helps keep the autonomic nervous system in balance. Less vigorous exercise is recommended.

⑤ Body temperature control: Your body gets cold when you wear light clothing. Change clothes as necessary to adjust your body temperature. It is a good idea to have a cardigan or other topper at hand that you can readily put on.

⑥ Rest: To reduce stress, make time to relax without thinking about anything. Listening to music or taking a walk on a greenery-rich road helps alleviate stress.

Keep these tips in mind, and stay healthy during seasonal change.

Editors' Comments Investor & Public Relations Office

It has already been three years since the IR Public Relations Office was established. Every year, azalea comes to full bloom during the May Golden

Week holidays following the cherry blossoms in April. It's a great season with great weather. In the coming two months, however, our work

schedule is the busiest in the year and, although I don't have an allergy to pollens, it is the time of year when I get stressed out very much. We

are going to hold a shareholders' meeting at our head office this year, and we count on your cooperation. (Toru Watanabe)

The other day, I bought a page-a-day calendar produced by former tennis player Shuzo Matsuoka and put it on my desk. Today's page says: "Get

rid of your ego. Be a snowman." This April marks the third anniversary of me entering the workforce. I'm not sure if I actually match the image of

a working adult in her third year that I had in mind when I was a student (laughter). I want to remain willing to learn whatever I need to and work

hard to make our newsletter more fun to read for everyone. (Akari Ueda)

When I visited ANEST IWATA Turnpike Hakone for the first time, I was really impressed to know that Japan still had a great place like this. On the

day I went there, the weather was fine and the air was clean, which gave me a clear view of Mt. Fuji. The landscape was just stunning. I strongly

recommend you go there too if you have a chance. (Motoya Sato)
