A Message our from Chapter Leadership
As you review our Annual Report, you will quickly see that theAmerican Red Cross is an organization where people help people. The person in need may be from a neighboring state, your nextdoor neighbor, your co-worker, or even your own family member. This Annual Report describes the many accomplishments of ourHealth & Safety, WHEELS, Disaster Services and Service to theArmed Forces departments over the past year.
Our regional chapter also took on several distinct challenges. Weassumed management responsibility for eight community chap-ters located in southern and eastern Kentucky. We initiated a suc-cessful new fundraising campaign known as “Heroes” to supportour ongoing operating expenses. And we managed the largest de-ployment of Bluegrass chapter volunteers outside of Kentucky sinceHurricane Katrina. Last year, 45 volunteers and staff deployed bothlocally & nationally to support disaster relief operations.
• 11 volunteers and 4 staff responded to the February 2008Kentucky Tornadoes by working in Central Kentucky.
• 31 volunteers deployed to support out of state DisasterRelief Operations, including the California Wildfires inthe fall of 2007 and the Central US Tornadoes and Floodsin June 2008.
The Bluegrass Chapter of the American Red Cross has respondedlocally and nationally. We are grateful to our dedicated volunteerswho are always ready to serve those in need.
We would also like to thank the many individuals in our commu-nity who have supported us financially and with in-kind donations. We are certain that after reading this report and talking with ourstaff and volunteers, you will find that we are excellent stewards ofyour gifts. We would also like to acknowledge the fact that theBluegrass Region has been especially generous in support of ourcommunity and for those in need throughout the nation.
