Technology: Planned Projects SMART Boards from LES will be relocated to each

corresponding teacher’s new location. Existing projectors and devices will be utilized

and mounted – goal is to have this phase up and running by mid/late September.

Computers from LES which are compatible with active directory and Windows 7 will be reallocated across 3 remaining elementary schools.

Space Utilization at IMES and Kindergarten Enrollment Update: There will be a total of 23 regular education classrooms needed at

IMES. There is a schematic of the floor plan and new spaces for small group instruction (OT/PT/ESL/Psychologist/Speech) on the KL Web site. Go to klschools.org > select District drop down > select School Closure Task Force > select Scenario 2.1 IMES Floor Plans.

Current 2014-15 Kindergarten Enrollment (numbers may change over the summer):• IMES: 49 students – 3 sections• KES: 58 students – 3 sections• MPES: 34 students – 2 sections• Numbers are still changing

Logistics

Construction KG&D developed architectural and mechanical

plans for creating small group instruction (SGI) rooms at MPES and IMES and delivered to SED for approval.

We have been notified the plans have already been reviewed by the SED architectural division and are awaiting mechanical approvals.

Construction will begin as soon as approvals are received.

Packing / StorageLES undertook evaluation and purging of outdated/unneeded equipment and supplies (March-April).Storage PODs delivered to LES (April).LES staff provided with packing materials.Boxes were transferred to appropriate storage PODs.Saturday packing hours made available beginning June 7th.Approximately 17 teachers took advantage of the first two Saturdays and 20 are signed up for June 21.IMES POD is ½ full, MPES POD is 1/3 full, and KES boxes are stored in Science Lab.

Packing / Storage (cont.) 50 bags of recycling were generated. Additional large and small boxes have been ordered, as

well as 100 poster tubes, and will be available June 14. PODs will be transferred to destination buildings beginning

early July. Cleaning of elementary school classrooms will be

prioritized for teachers moving from other buildings. New classrooms will be available for unpacking beginning

in late July (subject to change based upon classroom use by town camps and ESY program).

LES will be cleaned throughout July and August.

Student Transition Committee

Transitioning Student VisitsSpecial Services Visit – June 2 Students were accompanied by a teacher and a TA from

IMES to KES. They were greeted by the principal, AP, and special

education supervisor. Students had a full tour of the building and met staff. Students had a snack outside and seemed happy and

excited about their new school.

Transitioning Student Visits4th Grade Visit – June 3 The principal, mascot, and student “buddies” greeted

incoming students, and the principal delivered welcoming remarks.

Students rotated through three stations:• Station 1: Principal read “Brave Irene” and led students through

a discussion about bravery and courage.• Station 2: Students toured the building while completing Venn

Diagram to be taken home and shared with their family.• Station 3: Students shared “Wordles” that they created prior to

the visit. They also completed puzzle pieces to fit into the “Welcome” banner to be displayed in September.

Transitioning Student Visits3rd Grade Visit – June 6 Theme for the visit was “Travel.” Before the visit students received travel tickets and

personalized passports. Upon arrival, students went to their “gate” and were

greeted by student ambassadors and the school mascot. During the visit there were 3 different partner

opportunities:• Scavenger Hunt – solved riddles to find destinations throughout building

and receive stickers on their passport• “A Country Far Away” read aloud and discussed• Art Project – filled a “suitcase” with items to take with you on the

adventure to a new school or grade (to be displayed in September)

Transitioning Student Visits2nd Grade Visit – June 9 The visit included activities based on the 2nd grade butterfly

and Flat Stanley units. Students were welcomed by student ambassadors,

principal, AP and school mascot. Butterfly templates were colored based on “get to know

you” questions. Students went on a scavenger hunt for Flat Stanley in

strategic locations throughout the building. Students participated in entire 2nd grade sing-along. Principal and AP read and discussed the book “First Day

Jitters”. Visiting students returned to their school with a butterfly

signed by new friends and a kid-friendly map of their new school.

Transitioning Student Visits1st Grade Visit – June 12 Prior to the visit, students decorated their Rock Fish in art

class, met the mascots during lunch, and participated in the Rock Fish share activity with a buddy in their own building (to practice for the larger setting).

Students were greeted by the administrators and mascot. Principal read “You Be You” by Linda Kranz as it was

projected on a screen. Students were broken up into small groups and

participated in a sharing activity with their Rock Fish – students took turns sharing something about themselves based on the number of dots on their fish.

Students then visited a classroom with a checklist of things to notice. Students could ask their new friends or the teacher questions about the school.

Transitioning Student VisitsKindergarten Visits June 17 (IMES) and June 19 (MPES) A representative from each building created a digital A to Z

book for parents and students to view prior to the visit. Prior to the visit every student completed a student

inventory with information about themselves, and teachers prepared students on how to introduce themselves.

Students were greeted by administrators and staff. Students were escorted to classrooms for introductions. A

to Z book was shared and students reminded they can watch it at home with their families.

Students toured the building with emphasis on common areas (cafeteria, gym, music, library, etc.)

Students had a snack in a classroom, and then time on the playground.

Staffing

Staffing Update Teachers, teaching assistants and aides officially

notified of reassignment on April 11. Support staff, not including custodians or monitors,

officially notified of reassignment on April 30.

Next StepsThe Future of Lewisboro Elementary

School:

Focus is currently on a successful move and consolidation.

We will convene a committee, early next school year, to consider future uses of LES.
