The setting takes place in the far-future.Aliens have come down to earth andnearly wiped out the human race twice. Toprevent extinction of mankind, they haveresorted to training young children in themilitary, turning them into genius, killingmachines. Ender is one of these children,and he is the best among them. The battle school is a special school wherekids like ender go and learn how to battle.Most of the training is in the form ofgames which are like training sessions, toget a taste of what its like in thebattlefield S (cont.) This is Ender in a training room.
Ender/Andrew Wiggin Ender is a four year old, genius who goes to abattle school in space. He looks innocent, butis actually very strong and smart. He is thebrother of Valentine, and Peter Wiggin. Henever really wants to fight, or hurt people,but he wants to protect his family. That isone of the reasons why he went to battleschool. Ender is the main character of thisstory. C This is Peter, Enders brother. He has brown hair and blue eyes
Peter Wiggin Peter is the older brother of Ender andValentine. He despises ender, becausehe is jealous of Ender being superior tohim. Even though he likes to tortureEnder, Peter still loves his brother.Despite him being the brother of themain character he is actually a minorcharacter, as he is only in the first partof the book. C Valentine Wiggin C This is Valentine.
Valentine is Enders younger sister. She isexceptionally smart for her age andshares a strong bond with Ender. She,like Peter, is a minor character in thestory, as she is also only in the firstpart of the book. C They are nicknamed buggers from their appearance.
Aliens/Buggers These aliens have waged war with thehumans. They were nicknamedBuggers due to obvious reasons.They have a powerful army, and nearlybeat the humans twice. This alien raceitself is the main antagonist of thestory. C This is what I think Alai looks like in the book.
Alai is enders best friend at the battle school.When ender first meets Alai they areenemies, but become friends later. Evenwhen ender leaves Alais group and goes to adifferent part of the school, they are stillfriends. Every day, ender, alai and otherpeople go to the battle room to practicetheir skills. The story begins with ender, being invitedto go to a place called the battle school.Here, ender is taught how to fight anddefend the world from a menace calledthe Buggers which are aliens that haveattacked earth. When ender arrives at theschool (Which is in space) he immediatelybecomes the best student. In fact, he isso good, he advances from the beginningclasses to the classes for bigger kids thanhim. At the battle school ender has become thebest student there is. At one point hebecomes a commander of his own army,which is a bunch of classmates in oneteam. Their team is called dragon armysuch as all the other teams havinganimals for mascots. Enders team,however, is composed mainly of smaller,less trained people. Ender must trainthem to become better. Soon, ender trains his army and they areunbeatable. So good, ender has beenmoved to a completely different school.While there he plays a game that lets himcommand a squadron of star ships and hemust shoot down his enemy. He graduallybecomes better at the game, until his lastday. P P (climax) Ender destroys the alien home planet
Ender wakes up, being told he must playone more game. It is around a planet andhe is outnumbered by his enemies.Nonetheless, he defeats his enemies, anddestroys the planet in the hologram.Ender is shocked to find out that thegame he was playing was actually reallyhappening. He accidentally ended the longwar against an alien race. P (climax) Ender destroys the alien home planet Back on earth, ender becomes a hero
Back on earth, ender becomes a hero.Ender moves to another planet, that usedto belong to the aliens. He begins acolony there and soon, more people beginto come. As ender is flying in a helicopter,he notices a strange area that seemsfamiliar to him. As he explores it he findsa cocoon, which contains a queen alien.Ender takes it and plans to let it hatchsomewhere. Resolution The mood of this story was very mixed,but it mostly felt sad, all the emotions hegoes through, (for the second time thatday, he cried. [pg.15]) the way Petertreated Ender, (and Peter wont hate me[pg.2]) Ender being very hesitant to kill,( I didnt want to kill anyone![pg.297])even his enemies. It makes youfeel sorry for Ender, and what he is goingthrough. Mood The theme of this book is obviously sci-fi,with all the advances in technology, likestarships, schools in space, lasers,holigrams and many more things.Humans are living on other planets thanearth and are even fighting aliens.
