GULLS

2010 women’s’soccer

One year removed from another NCAA berth, the women’s soccer team is poised for the College’s eighth consecutive postseason appearance. The Blue and Green return their top goal scorer, as well as the entire midfield and back line, from a team that finished 12-1 en route to their sixth TCCC crown in seven years.

Last season, the Gulls made their presence felt in the NCAA tourna-ment, defeating SUNY Geneseo in dramatic fashion with a shootout victory in the opening round before falling 1-0 to the eventual unde-feated national champions Messiah College. The team finished with an overall record of 18-5.

Despite losing of two-time TCCC Player of the Year Caitlyn Flynn to graduation, the Endicott offense benefits from the return of top goal scorer Colleen Pepin. The sopho-more forward finished third in the conference with 16 goals, highlighted by six game winners. The TCCC First Team selection added five assists to finish with a team-best 37 points. Sophomore Chelsea Garlock looks to make an immediate impact up front after transferring from Florida Gulf Coast University. Three freshman forwards in Heather Moody, Lexi Dussi, and Taylor Ocko provide depth and energy to conference’s top scoring team.

The Endicott back line features a trio of defenders with big game experience. Senior Victoria Hunt and sophomores Lauren Todd and Caitlin Peters all started every game for the Gulls in 2009. In particular, Peters earned recognition with TCCC First Team All-Conference honors, an ECAC All-Star nod, and being named to the NSCAA All-Region Team. Hunt, who earned TCCC Honorable

Mention accolades last season, will need to continue to provide veteran leadership as the team welcomes four freshman defenders with top club-level experience. Their consis-tent play helped the Blue and Green allow just 12 goals, including a 45-2 advantage in-conference, the benchmark in the TCCC

Seniors Kayla and Karyn Plante will once again be relied upon to control the midfield with help from class-mates Kayla Corbett and Sarah John-son. Kayla was named to the TCCC First Team as a junior. Karyn finished with three goals and a pair of assists, while Johnson has been a steady role player for the Gulls. Corbett’s play in the center of the pitch will be vital to the team’s success this season after tallying five assists during her junior campaign. Sophomore Cheyenne Harris will play an increased role this season after strong performances in the 2009 postseason. Classmate Christine Silva, who saw action in every game as a freshman, returns with a contagious work ethic and energy level.

The goalkeeper position remains an open race. The graduation of Amy Meuse, who led the NCAA in goals against average and save percent-age, opens the position up for this upcoming preseason.

The 2010 schedule showcases a number of key non-conference matches that should help measure where Endicott ranks regionally. The Gulls host Wheaton College before traveling to Babson and Tufts. In TCCC play, the Blue and Green’s fea-tured games include Western New England and Gordon College on the road before taking on Roger Williams at home.

Jodi Kenyon The 2010 season marks Jodi Kenyon’s sixth year as the head coach of the women’s soccer program. Kenyon is the third coach in the program’s successful history, and she also serves as Associate Athletic Director of Endicott Athletics.

Under Kenyon, the Gulls have qualifi ed for fi ve straight postseason appearances, including reaching the NCAA Tournament “Sweet Sixteen” for the fi rst time in program history in 2006. In 2009, the team earned an automatic qualifi er into the NCAA Tournament after winning The Commonwealth Coast Con-ference (TCCC) for the fourth time under Kenyon. Kenyon has compiled an all-time record of 84-23-6 in just fi ve seasons, establishing one the most successful coaching records at Endicott. The Gulls have also won The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) Tournament championship from 2003-2007, (three under Kenyon) as well as earning the National Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) Academic Award from 2005-2008.

The women’s soccer program, which began competing in the NCAA in 1993, has compiled a 153-28-5 record in conference play and has won nine championships, including six out of seven titles from 2003-2009. Endicott players have received numerous conference recognition awards highlighted by six student-athletes earning the Conference Player of the Year and two receiving Rookie of the Year honors.

Prior to arriving at Endicott, Kenyon served as head coach at the University of Vermont from 1997 through 2003, where her teams compiled a record of 41-78-7. She was also an assistant coach for four seasons at Harvard University with teams that won two Ivy crowns and collected 37 wins. Kenyon began her coaching career at her Alma Mater, Adelphi University (Garden City, N.Y.), where she was an assistant for three seasons, coaching a team that featured former Endicott coach Dina Gentile. Kenyon helped lead Adelphi to four NCAA Division II tournament appearances, three as fi nalists.

Kenyon graduated from Adelphi University in 1989 with a BS in Physical Education and in 1994 with a MA in Athletic Administration. At Adelphi, Kenyon was an Academic All-American and earned conference recognition all four years of her career. In January of 2006, Kenyon earned her National Soccer Association (NSCAA) Premier Diploma.

Born in Oneonta, N.Y., home of the National Soccer Hall of Fame, Kenyon attended Worcester Central High School where she scored 108 goals in her career. Kenyon currently resides in Beverly, Mass.
