KOC recently signed a memorandum of un-derstanding with the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) con-cerning cooperation in the field of research and development in oil and gas.The MOU was signed at the KOC Main Of-fice by CEO Hashem Sayed Hashem and KFAS Director General Adnan Shihab-Eldin. The signing ceremony was also attended by a number of KOC DCEOs and senior manag-ers from KFAS. Hashem said that the MOU governs coopera-tion in the establishment of a global research center for oil, which he upheld as very im-portant for the Company given the signifi-cant challenges posed by the technological requirements of future oil recovery. The CEO added that the signing of the MOU will help to accelerate the implementation of the re-search center. The general purpose of the five-year MOU is to promote and develop academic and sci-entific research cooperation between both sides in the fields of oil, gas, water and the environment. In addition, the MOU seeks to facilitate the exchange of technical and scien-tific information on issues of common interest, as well as establish joint research and devel-opment projects and identify areas of coop-eration that contribute to raising the level of reputation and expertise of the two sides in the international arena.

Under the auspices of DCEO (Admin & Fi-nance Affairs) Saad Al-Azmi, and in the presence of Manager (Training and Career Development Group) Qusai Al-Amer, the External Courses Section within the Training Competency Team for CAE organized KOC’s first “Executive Book Club” at the Hilton in Mangaf.

During the event, the KOC officials discussed “True North,” a book that has been adopted by Senior Management that covers aspects of training for experienced leaders.

During the event, Al-Amer welcomed the Team Leaders and guests of honor. The book was discussed after a presentation by Frans van Herdeen (Consultant Training & Career De-velopment Group), whose speech positively affected the audience and enriched the par-ticipation and interaction among attendees.

The “Executive Book Club” is an initiative from the Training Competency Team that has been met with great success. It is considered the first of its kind among the K-Companies, and future plans included holding four more meetings to discuss other books during the 2014/15 fiscal year. The books will be discussed by experienced Team Leaders throughout KOC.

Soil Remediation Group Hosts Visiting DelegationSite visit to landfill construction site and Guest House

The Soil Remediation Group recently organized a meeting at the Guest House and a site visit to a landfill construction site in South Kuwait for United Nations Advisory Panel members and Kuwait National Focal Point (KNFP) personnel. KNFP is the governing body of the Kuwait Environmental Remediation Program (KERP) and the purpose of the visit was to assess the progress of the program.

DCEO Ismail Abdullah and Team Leader Soil Remediation Projects II Mohsen Al-Shammari, along with other Group members, attended the

opening meeting. A discussion regarding the progress of KERP was held, followed by a presentation about the landfill from Eng. Reem Al-Othman from Soil Remediation Projects II.

The meeting at the Guest House was followed by a site visit to the landfill construction site, where TL Al-Shammari explained the design concept and ongoing construction activities. The delegation was then returned to the Guest House and was given a presentation about “Total Remedial Solution (TRS) Strategy,” which was followed by discussions about KERP.

Green Belt Certification Course Award CeremonySix Sigma participants honored by PIC at Boubyan Club

The Petrochemical Industries Company (PIC) recently hosted a ceremony at the Boubyan Club to honor participants from the Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Course. KOC employees who took part in the course included Fawaz Al-Sulaiman, Snr. Analyst (Systems & Procedures) from the Audit & Parliament Relations Team.

Management Support Group Manager Shehab Abdullah also attended the ceremony that concluded the two-week training course.

Part of the course work required Al-Sulaiman to conduct a project that demonstrated

his understanding of the concept, and his ideas were supported by Aref Ahmad, TL Audit & Parliament Relations, who provided him with an opportunity to apply the Six Sigma concepts to improve the response time for MP queries.

Al-Sulaiman fulfilled the requirements of the Green Belt Certification and demonstrated significant improvements in the MP query process. This included a 70% reduction in first response time, which contributes to an enhanced image of KOC, and streamlined communication with the government and parliament.

KOC Organizes Reservoir Simulation Program for KUFPEC

KOC recently received a delegation composed of representatives from the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and KPC. The visiting delegation was provided with a tour of the Company’s facilities and oil installations with the goal of exchanging experiences and best practices between the two sides.

The delegation visited the Crude Oil Control Center, where they were briefed on the surveillance, control and coordination of crude oil movement and associated activities such as oil storage and water removal. They also visited the Central Mixing Manifold and learned about its main functions.

The visit included a tour of the North Pier Terminal at Ahmadi Refinery, where a brief explanation of the operations that take place there was presented. Topics of the visit included loading operations for tankers, types of measurement methods and the issuance of final vessel reports.

The visit concluded with a visit to the Kuwait Oasis, where Abdullah Al-Bairamy, Maintenance Supervisor (S&EK), briefed the delegation about the project.

The delegation was accompanied by Capital Program Planning Group Manager Mohammed Al-Abduljaleel, TL Export Operations Shamlan Al-Roomi, Engineer Export Operations Salah Bahzad and Chief PR Officer Khaled Al-Failakawi.

The Technical Personnel Development Team, in collaboration with the Fields Development Group (West Kuwait), recently organized a specialized reservoir simulation program for a number of employees from KUFPEC.

Senior Reservoir Engineer Saad Matar from the New Fields Development Team (WK) delivered a presentation about the basic steps involved in the reservoir simulation program, in addition to the fundamentals of reservoir engineering.

Meanwhile, TL Technical Personnel Development Eisa Al-Daihani praised the cooperation from the Fields Development Group (West Kuwait), particularly from

Acting Group Manager Ibrahim Al-Sammak and Saad Matar, for the facilitation of the transfer of KOC engineers’ expertise to the staff of other K-Companies.

KUFPEC DCEO Hosnia Hashem maintained that she was proud of the cooperation between K-Companies, adding that this cooperation was one of the most important and essential strategic objectives for KPC and its subsidiaries.

She also commended the experience of KOC engineers and noted that their counterparts at KUFPEC have benefited greatly from this program. She then praised the experience of the Subsurface TIU in the field of technical training.

R&T Group Holds Training Session for AvocetEvent organized by E&P IM Team

The Asset Support Unit of the Exploration & Production Information Man-agement (E&P IM) Team (Research & Technology Group) recently orga-nized a training and awareness session for Well Test Data Validation pro-cesses that now use Avocet, an integrated workflow management and data analysis tool.

Hussain Al-Ajmi, E&P IM TL, delivered opening remarks during the session and welcomed the FD Engineers and Well Test Data Validators from various departments throughout KOC. Al-Ajmi then discussed KOC’s Production Al-location Process, Allocation Data Flow and the objectives of an enhanced Back-Allocation solution that uses Avocet and is compatible with existing KOC business processes and requirements.

A delegation from KOC recently conducted a three-day visit to Shell’s headquar-ters in the Netherlands. During the visit, the delegation was provided with infor-mation about that latest technology utilized in Shell’s production facilities.

The visit included a trip to production units in Assen, the Rotterdam refinery, which is the largest Shell refinery, as well as a visit to Shell’s laboratories in Amsterdam.

In addition to a flexible and friendly Graphical User Interface (GUI), Avocet offers validation rules that help engineers identify tests that require more investigation. Avocet also offers multiple theoretical methods to estimate well rates and help develop well models.

Aissa Hamlaoui, the Project Manager from Schlumberger, presented in-formation regarding Avocet to KOC employees. Ulan Mukashev, Project Engineer from Schlumberger, conducted the two-day training session.

Huda Al-Aradi, Head of Asset Support Unit, Khawar Qureshey, Project Manager, Sayed Rajab Yassin, Shakeel Ahmed, Project Engineers and Co-ordinators were also present to support the participants and trainees.

The delegation included TL EPF Operations & Maintenance Yousef Al-Humoud, Senior Engineer Mechanical Maintenance Mohamad Al-Sarraf, Senior Process Engineer Hamad Rajab and Senior Engineer Projects Mohammad Al-Saleh.

D&T Directorate Hosts HSE MeetingAimed at closer communication with KOC’s business partners

Well Delivery Improvement Workshop HeldVarious groups take part

The Operational Planning Team recently organized a workshop to map out the current process for well delivery and evaluate the benchmarks against other best practices in order to create a better Well Delivery – Project Gate System (WD-PGS). The workshop was held in coordination with groups such as Drilling, Exploration, FD (HO, SEK, NK, WK & Gas), Support Services (NK, WK & S&EK), Purchasing & Materials, Commercial Services and HSE Groups as well as Schlumberger Business Consulting.

TL Operational Planning Nawaf Al-Shehab opened the workshop with a welcoming speech before Trung Ghi (Project Manager at Schlumberger), conducted the workshop and led a discussion with the audience.

It is worth mentioning that the developed WD-PGS process will have a massive effect on the organization and the way KOC conducts its business in terms of capital investment for sub-surface activities.

The D&T Directorate recently held its 38th bimonthly meeting under the theme of Slips, Trips, Falls & Dropped Objects with the objective of closer communication and interface with the Company’s business partners. The bimonthly meetings are chaired by D&T Group Managers with participation from Team Leaders on a rotational basis.

This particular meeting was held under the patronage of Yousef Abdulrahman, Manager R&T Group, with the participation of Team Leaders from six D&T Groups and key representatives (Operational & HSE) from D&T.

Those in attendance discussed the significance of HSE procedures and the key role

KOC’s business partners play in implementing them. They also discussed controlling losses and the shared lessons learned from injury incidents.

Schlumberger presented the “StaySAFE” campaign that seeks to raise awareness among employees in order to create incident-free operations. After their presentation, they were provided with a token of appreciation from Fahad Al-Dhamen on behalf of the R&T Group Manager.

Al-Dhamen then concluded the meeting by thanking everyone present for their participation, adding that he looked forward to future meetings.

The Community Services Team recently organized an Eid Al-Adha Open Day celebration activity for KOC employees and their families at Shaab Park, where it was held for the first time.

The all-day event featured an agenda with competitions and recreational activities for children, which included face painting, games, a DJ and a variety of shows. Gifts and prizes were distributed, in addition to free playing cards for all participants.

This activity comes within the framework of the Company’s interest in social activities that enhance the family spirit among employees, which reflects positively in all aspects of KOC’s operations.

Accounts Payable Team Develops New Payment ProcessImplement & automate NCSO invoicing process via SSP application

The Accounts Payable Team has developed a system to pay for non-storable purchases through a Non-Contract Services Order (NSCO). The objective of the new system is to modernize various aspects of the Accounts Payable Team’s procedure so that they fall in line with the Company’s 2030 Strategy.

The new system is associated with Sundry Services Payments (SSP), which tracks payments automatically and reduces possible errors in the selection of the type of payments by different departments during data entry.

To facilitate the use of the system, the Accounts Payable Team, in collabora-

tion with the Corporate Information Technology Group, held training sessions at the Office Complex in order to train more than 200 candidates nominated by departments throughout the Company. A circular has been published that mandates that all future billings must make use of the new system by November 2, 2014.

TL Accounts Payable, Mansour Abdulla Rashed, and Senior Accountant Major Projects, Ali Abdeen, oversaw the implementation of the new system in collabo-ration with their colleagues and members from the CIT Group.
