energy, the environment and new technologies in
TRANSCRIPT
ENEA is a public body operating in the fields ofenergy, the environment and new technologies inorder to support competitiveness and sustainabledevelopment policies at the national level.
ENEA’s main tasks are:• promoting and carrying out basic and applied
research and technological innovation, alsothrough prototype development and productindustrialization;
• disseminating and transferring research resultsencouraging their exploitation for productiveand social purposes;
• providing both public and private bodies andenterprises with high-tech services, studies,tests and evaluations.
ENEA’s research activities are carried out by fiveDepartments:
– The Environment, Global Changes andSustainable Development
– Biotechnologies, Agro-industry and HealthProtection
– Nuclear Fusion and Fission and RelatedTechnologies
– Advanced Physical Technologies and NewMaterials
– Energy Technologies, Renewable EnergySources and Energy Saving
ENEA has set up several new projects aimed ataddressing some of the major issues in the fields ofenergy and the environment.These projects take into account the relevantpolicies undertaken at the European and national
levels as well as the need to focus on a few high-technology innovation areas, the main internationalprojects ENEA participates in, and the spin-offs fromthe application of ENEA’s technological know-how tosectors other than its leading fields of expertise.These projects are just the top of the iceberg ofENEA’s activities. They are the following:
Clean energy• Distributed Energy• Clean coal / Zero emission• Biofuels• Solar Thermodynamic Energy
Technologies and Territory• Technologies and Methods for the Assessment
of Energy Settlements• The Kyoto Protocol and Climate Change
Adaptation• Technologies for Sustainable Waste
Management• Ecobuilding• Management and Safety of Technology and
Energy Infrastructures• Logistics for Sustainable Mobility
Emerging technologies• New-generation Photovoltaics• New Materials for the Energy Sector• Hydrogen and Fuel Cells• FT3 – The Italian Experiment for Nuclear Fusion• Superconductivity
ENEA’s Technology Spin-offs• Technologies for Cultural Heritage• Health Technologies• Technologies for Food Quality and Safety.
Centres
The eleven ENEA’s Research Centres – located all overItaly – are endowed with a wide range of expertise,advanced facilities and instruments put at thedisposal of both ENEA’s research programmes and ofthe Nation's scientific and productive world.ENEA also operates through:
• an additional network of branch officespromoting its activities and providinginformation and consultancy services for localpublic administrations and enterprises
• a Representation Office in Brussels, with thepurpose of promoting and strengthening theimage and participation of ENEA within the EUframework.
ENEA's headquarters is located in Rome.
