Superintendent’s Office Central High Football Players Carry Their Passion Beyond the Field

When Chattanooga Central High School Football Head Coach, Cortney Braswell, brought his team to a playoff game in Greeneville on November 10th, giving their all in the game wasn’t the only giving they had on their minds. They wanted to show love to a woman who wouldn’t be there to watch them play. Toni Weems, mother of Charles Weems, coach at Red Bank High School, was recently diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer. The aggressive chemotherapy treatments would not allow her to attend the playoff games as she planned, so the Central High Pounders came to her. Braswell, along with another coach, bought four dozen roses, one rose for each player to present to Weems. Weems described the thoughtful gesture as “Very, very sweet.” Going on to explain “It was an important game, the second round of the playoffs, but for them to take any time out of their day to think about anything other than football, It was awfully special to us.”

Thank you coaches and players for this selfless act of compassion!

Hamilton County Wants to Hear

From You!

This past Tuesday, Superintendent Dr. Bryan Johnson’s Transition Team introduced the Transition Team Survey. This survey aims to gain feedback from Hamilton County students, parents, community members, school faculty and staff, administration, and central office staff. Feedback from the survey will be shared with Dr. Johnson’s transition team to guide them in their research efforts. Your participation and feedback is vital in providing opportunities essential to the successful future of our

students. If you have not already, take a moment to complete this confidential survey, found here: bit.ly/transitionteamsurvey.

Recruitment Fair Seeks Teachers for Hamilton County Schools

Erin Harrel, Recruitment and Field Experience Coordinator, and Carmen Carson, Coordinator of Human Capital, are seeking high-quality teachers to work with the children in our schools. To do this, they have planned a special recruitment fair scheduled to take place on December 11th. This fair will provide opportunities for teachers in Chattanooga, North Georgia, and North Alabama to connect with school principals about future job openings. The recruitment fair will be held from 5:30-7:30, at East Ridge Elementary. Do you know someone that should be at this event? Invite them to register at http://bit.ly/2iruRp6.

#HCDEarts Four Tyner Academy Art III students’ self-portraits were accepted into a “Best of the Best” Art Show for Tennessee High School students at the Knoxville Museum of Art. Students from 38 counties submit their work each year, and the judges mandate total creativity from scratch with no outside photographs used or plagiarized sources for ideas. Students’ art work is judged for its excellent craftsmanship and technique demonstrated in the category for entry. All of the Art III students went to the Knoxville Museum of Art to see their fellow students’ work displayed.
