Camp Otonabee

Camp Otonabee Leadership TrainingCamp Otonabee’s leadership programs offer excellent experience and training for potential camp counsellors and future community leaders. These certificate programs are designed to allow participants to share ideas and participate in experiential leadership activities. Leadership campers develop and refine skills, work through group challenges and gain experience in group dynamics and risk management.

Leaders in Training, 14-15YPart one of our leadership program is a two-week program that focuses on developing hard skills such as canoeing, kayaking and rock climbing. Campers will work as a group on these hard skills, and also learn how to instruct these activities safely. The Leaders in Training program is a hands-on program where campers work together and learn to problem solve as part of a team.

Otonabee Leaders, 15-16 YOtonabee Leaders is a four-week program for graduates of the Leaders in Training program. It will expose candidates to the soft skills that are important to counsellors and community leaders. Participants refine hard skills, but emphasis is placed on group dynamics, behaviour and risk management and program development. Campers will shadow experienced staff and help deliver programs. Leaders also have the opportunity to achieve their bronze medallion or bronze cross certification while at camp.

2 Week Out Trippers, 12Y – 14YOur 2 Week Out Trippers program is designed for campers who are looking for an extended wilderness experience. During the 2 week program, campers will spend the first five days at camp preparing, goal setting and doing team-building activities. The campers will then spend 5 days and 4 nights exploring Algonquin Park’s wilderness. Participants will return in time to go home on the camp bus on Friday afternoon.
