Participants are placed in English Academy Schools to implement teaching techniques that will help the students learn English as their second language. All placements are at educational institutions that focus only in the instruction and methods for learning and improving English verbal and writing skils. During your stay, you will gain invaluable experience in the teaching field while enjoying the beautiful sigh seeing that Quito has to offer. PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS At an extra cost you could experience exciting and new activities in the Andes such as: For an extra cost enjoy the beautiful sight seeing spots that Quito has to offer: * Enjoy the Old Town-churches, government, squares and shopping. The historic old town of Colonial Quito is the jewel in Ecuador's crown. The city was designated the first UNESCO World Heritage City in 1978 in recognition of the importance of its colonial architecture (ahead of cities like Bath and Venice). * Quito is the city that has the best-preserved, least altered historic center in Latin America. The monasteries of San Francisco and Santo Domingo, and the Church and Jesuit College of La Compañía, with their rich interiors, are pure examples of the 'Baroque school of Quito', which is a fusion of Spanish, Italian, Moorish, Flemish and indigenous art. * The Teleferico takes visitors almost to the top of the Volcano Pichincha. It is worth putting aside a few hours for the trip, and day or nighttime is equally interesting. The cable cars will take you up to almost 14,000 feet and the views are stunning. * Visit the "Middle of the World City" where the monument that divides the Northern Hemisphere from the Southern is located. It was built during the XVII century when a French Expedition defined the precise location of the equatorial line. The Ethnographic Museum can be also be visited.

Participants will be working with students from all ages 10-50 years old. All the students have the need to learn and improve their conversational and written English skills. Detailed information, terms and conditions about the academy, salary, teaching schedule and more will be given to the participant during the application process. 2. SERVICES THAT THE ORGANIZATION/INSTITUTION PROVIDES (DESCRIPTION) The services that English Academies provide are: • Provide an environment that offers students the opportunity to learn English with native

VOLUNTEER INFORMATION 3. How many volunteers can the Project employ monthly? English Academies hire English native Speakers. 10-15 teachers compose their staff. 4. Has the organization received volunteers in the past? Yes. 5. If it has received volunteers in the past, please write since what month and year: All English Academies have received participants for years. 6. Are there any special features to which the volunteers hasve to pay attention to when

working at this project? (Religion, illnesses, extra-vaccination, etc) No 7. Are there any requirements to attend this program? No, there are no requirements but English Academies are more inclined to hire individuals who have Teaching experience or a TEFL, TESOL or ESL certificate. 8. The project receives volunteers all year round? Yes. 9. Please specify holidays or other dates when the project closes and can not receive

volunteers: December 15 to January 15 10. Is there a minimum amount of weeks volunteers can work at the project? 8 weeks. 11. Is there a maximum amount of weeks volunteers can work at the project? No, there is no minimum. 12. Please give detailed description of tasks and duties of the volunteer: The participant will be in charge of teaching conversational and written English his assigned students or classroom. The participant will identify the level of conversational English that each students has, based on this the participant will focus on using a method that best applies for each level: beginner, intermediate and advanced. The participant will focus on creating exercises for his students that will help to perfect pronunciation, improve comprehension and understanding, increase vocabulary and more. The participant will help students achieve fluency without memorising, but rather through practicing. Materials will be provided by the English Academy. 13. Indicate the times and days the volunteer will be working in the week: Monday to Friday. Some academies will pay extra for teaching on the weekends. The contract signed between the participant and the Academy will specify teaching schedule, number of hours etc.

Public Bus transportation is $0.25. From most of our home stays to various branches of English Academies, it will take approximately 30-45 minutes by bus. 16. DESCRIBE THE SORROUNDINGS OF THE PROJECT (country side, urban, town) The English Academies are located in the North side of Quito in commercial and residential neighborhoods.

ACCOMODATIONS AND MEALS 17. Type of Accommodation?

Participants have the option to stay at a host family or residence. Host families and residencies are located in good residential neighborhoods in Quito. Home stays have been selected after an application process to make sure they have everything participants need. Arranged at an extra cost.
