COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Laboratory Elementary School and Junior High School (LES-JHS) English Language Teaching is grounded on the

principle expressed in the Department of Education K to 12 Curriculum Guide stating that "Learner's learn about language and how to

use it effectively through their engagement with and study of text", which is realized through varied activities involving reading,

writing, speaking, listening, and viewing. It aims to produce learners with communicative competence who are proficient in both

written and oral communication. Specifically, learners manifest grammatical/linguistic competence, sociolinguistic competence,

discourse competence, and strategic competence.

English language teaching in the Laboratory Elementary School (LES) serves as the strong foundation of language learning

whereby learners' achieve mastery of basic skills in reading, writing, and speaking. More so, learning is aimed at the acquisition of

the following: a) knowledge of the alphabets, grammar, phonic and word recognition, vocabulary, spelling, and composition b) skills

in phonology, handwriting, writing, comprehension, and fluency.
