ColorThe Aula magna of the Central University of Venezuela, designed by C. R. Villanueva, is a great example of the use of color to create emotions and a variety of sensations in an inside space.

The new fountain of Plaza Venezuela is another example of the use of color in Caracas, in this case in the context of the city, throught the use of lights of different colors that iluminate water.

LightThis is a view of Caracas at nights. The Boyaca Avenues lights clearly difference the city from the Avila mountain. At dark nights is almost impossible to see the mountain, it seems like it has disappeared.

The Central University of Venezuela is full of perforated walls, which create a great effect on the way that light goes throught the space.

This house was designed by Gio Ponti, an italian architect, for a couple of venezuelan artists. The Villa Planchart is a great example of modernity in Caracas, and its use of light is impressive: the roof seems to be floating over the house, specially at night.

TextureThe Teresa Carreno Theater uses texture in the facade. This helps to give scale to something that, otherwise, would look like a very big wall.

In the Towers of Parque Central, texture is created by the repetition of concrete, steel and glass elements.

RhythmLos Proceres would be one of the greatest examples of the use of rythm in an urban context. Everything, from the palm trees, to the fountains, is made with rythm.

In this view of the inside of the Villa Planchart, we can see the use of rhythm in the ceiling and the floor, making a very dynamic contrast between them.

Vertical and HorizontalCirculationIn the Luis Brion Square, located in Chacaito, the directions for horizontal circulations are very clear: this square behaves more like a very big distribuitor .

The San Ignacio Mall has an interesting space conformed by two offices towers and the shopping centers galeries that sorround an horizontal space, which is interrupted by the vertical circulations sistems.

space & scaleStanding before Parque Cristal is a great-scale experience. The big entrance, and the enormous perforation on the facade makes you feel its importance as a comercial and financial center in Caracas.

El Silencio towers, designed by C.R. Villanueva, have an horizontal element which unifies the two towers, but also gives scale to the people.

ConclusionsThis architectural and urbanistic characteristics make caracas a city with its own identity, full of buildings of the modernity times. Nowadays, shopping centers are the most common in-construction-buildings, this is also an important thing about caracas. Also, the development of marginal populations, called barrios has made a great damage in our urbanistic organization.
