Teacher uses a Big Book in class to engage children and model reading aloud. Through questioning techniques, the teacher will get the children to respond to the books while also teaching grammar, vocabulary, punctuation and concepts of print.

Holistic Assessment

Assessment plays a pivotal role in teaching and

learning. It supports the holistic development of

pupils. Teachers use a range of assessment tools

which include written and performance tasks (e.g.

Oral Reading and Show and Tell) to provide

feedback on individual pupil’s mastery of concepts

and skills. Rubrics are commonly used to chart the

strengths and targeted areas of improvement for

each pupil.
