What is Sustained Silent Reading (SSR)?
▸ A fixed period of time in which everyone
in the classroom including the teacher reads a book of his/her choice quietly and uninterrupted. (5 to 10mins)
▸ This strategy provides pupils with authentic opportunities to enjoy reading while practising their silent reading skills.

Feedback from Teachers to Students ▸Reading Aloud
▸Well done on the pronunciation. I could hear the ending consonants sounds very clearly. Do take note of the 'Th' sounds, it can be better. Overall, I could tell it was a deliberate effort on your part. Moving forward, let's move from deliberate effort to being effortless. This comes with practice but you are off to a good start! So whenever you have pockets of free time, take a passage and read out loud, be comfortable hearing your voice as you read expressively.
Feedback from Teachers to Students Stimulus-based Conversation
- Good use of vocabulary for eg "paramount importance". Keep this up! - Overall organisation of ideas presented is coherent and clear. I particularly liked how you presented different perspectives for example in Q2- perspectives of children vs contrasting view of parents. You also made good use of connectors to link your ideas, so good job! - You gave ample and good ideas/perspective and examples which is important but because this is a practice where you are reading from your script, be prepared that examiners may just interrupt and ask you for reasons or to explain further. So you need to be ready for that. ▸

Tackling a Challenging Section
▸ Challenging section for most students ▸Students need to understand the text at both literal and inferential levels ▸At times, they may also be required to form an evaluative opinion and support their answers with evidence from the text ▸Questions can be 1 to 4 marks ▸Total of 20 marks for this component
How you can help your child at home:

home

ensure that your child is reading widely
▸ By engaging your child in meaningful talk
